  • wow over 3k did she blow up yet?

  • So is that a stock turbo?

  • I have a 1993 chevy 6.5 with 235k miles and everything is stock but the mechanical pump with alot of fuel and timeing it makes 20psi of boost and my bottom end is still holding together after 6 sled pulls and everyday hauling

  • have you made any modifications to your truck?

  • Got any videos of it black smokin'?

  • So have you blown it up yet with that 25psi??.... lol.... thats only 5 more than the last guy I know that busted a crank in a 6.5.

  • @possmguts pass, side valve cover gasket and both headgaskets have sprung leaks, about it.

  • @DLoc137 You got very lucky. Limit boost to 15psi or you'll bust the crank or block next time.

  • How has the 6.5 been doing ? Have you done anything new lately?

  • @KB3MMX yeah you didn't hear! With him driving the truck like that, and not spending lots of money to beef up the bottom end, he had to purchase a new truck. this one bit the dust. the 6.5 are decent if the bottom ends are buffed up and you invest a lot of money into them. Cummins and Powerstroke are the better buys, cheaper, and more reliable

  • @qwertyz6789 they are actually more expensive and a powerstroke? you mean a powerJOKE, those things are absolutely junk, just like everything else ford makes.

  • @DLoc137 let me guess you have a turdmax?

  • @KB3MMX @KB3MMX yeah you didn't hear! • Nice peelout. Now thats how you drive a truck ;)

  • @ChevyDieselBoy barely gave it any gas lol

  • @DLoc137 Awesome, haha

  • damn. that thing pulls hard. who says the six five is garbage? doin work every day.

  • help anybody, i have a 98 6.5l turbo im tryin to save some money instead to taking it to the chevy dealer and rippin me off. and and id like some peoples advice. im having a service engine light which is a PO236-TURBOCHARGER BOOST SENSOR A CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE. and i read some forms online and i replaced the wastegate solenoid. so far it didnt work. so what are my next options? i poped the hose off the wastegate actuator when the truck was idleing and im getting no suction? bad vacuum mabe?

  • @washkin try to check the vacuum pump and also the power going to the solenoid if nothing if u need some mor help email

  • @immondragon hey its fixed, the problem was a bad vacuum pump. it was a pain in the ass to get it removed. ha thanks though

  • impressive!

  • what do you have done to the motor? Do you have head studs to keep it from blowin gaskets at 25psi? Stock turbo?

I've got a '92 1/2 ton, reg cab, short box with a 6.5TD Running 15psi, 1/4 turn on the injection pump. Runs nice, but i'd LOVE to see it make 25psi (and not blow up of course!)

  • @bellofello1 does turning up the pump put more stress on the engine? i got a lot of miles on mine and dont want to make her blow prematurely.

  • @JonneyTurbo65

I'm not sure about stress on the engine. Well, to have the need for more fuel you need to be running higher than stock boost pressures, which will increase stress on the motor. I've got about 190,000 miles on mine. Haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood)

  • @bellofello1 maybe i will hold off on that one then. for some reason my truck smokes black alot already when i step on it. which i kind of like but i know the 6.5 is not supposed to do that with only intake and exhuast done to it

  • @JonneyTurbo65

yea it shouldn't. Even with my pump turned up it doesn't smoke once the turbo spools up. Do you have boost and EGT gauges? If you don't, I highly reccomend getting some, that way you have a piece of mind and know what your motor is doing.

  • thats a dang good running 6.5L!! Nice!

  • whats in it for mods and what year is it?

  • durtyy diesel

  • weak

  • @27pocket its a 6.5, what do you expect? a 1500hp toyota supra?

  • @27pocket how us that weak? thats on 6000 lb truck doing at least 75mph.... what do you drive? some douchebag riceburner?

  • How much was the side mounted intercooler, does it seem to work well?

  • Unless you had 18:1 compression i don't see how you can run above 15 psi of boost.

  • Is it a 1/2 ton?

  • (part 2 of 2)

Just as a side note, unless its a turbo like a HX35 cummins turbo, the turbo will likely have trouble gettting up to 20psi, not to mention beyond.

Like i said, i appologize if my minimal comment reading has left me misinformed, if it is legit 25psi, congrats! i plan on pulling mine in a couple years and getting it up around the 25psi range too.

  • (2 part message) I'm sorry, i haven't read all the comments, but has there been a pile of money poured into this engine... like 5k to handle that boost (aftermarket head studs, pistons, main girdle etc)? If not, you're probably getting an output of what the computer reads (actual boost + atmospheric pressure = actual boost + 14.7psi), so actually 10.3psi boost... which is reasonable.

  • r u gettin over 600 torque? Im right at it and im trying to see if its worth gettin a bigger turbo.

  • what do u have done to this that your running 25psi >?

  • ik that there is a bigger turbo, side mount intercooler, straight pipe no cat, not sure on everything else i'd have to ask my dad, he's the one who built it.

  • @DLoc137 if thats it your very lucky u dont blow the head gasket at 25 lol myn will spike 25 but i only let to run 15 on avg

  • How many miles per gallon do you get?

  • complete shit, hows that sound? comparing to a 42mpg honda, this is like a 1/4 of that probably.

  • 6.5 - now THAT's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

  • damn you squacked the tires! sweet! wish i could load up the turbo on my 6.2 but its a stick so its all or nothing off the line without the turbo helping it along.

  • haha yea they squaked at first then just smoked silently.

  • CHEVY POWER WOOOOO!!!!!! im wanting to put a 6.2L in my truck i dont think a 6.5 would work in a 81 chevy though id have to change trannys

  • tranny's are the same. a diesel auto and a gas auto have different tourqe converters and different valving in the trasmission so they shift differently. the 6.2 and 6.5 are almost identical inside except the 6.5 has a larger stroke and piston squirters for the turbo.

  • hey kb3 how do you chip a 6.5 like you said i would really like to know how cuz i never knew they even made a chip or programer for it?!?! do you know anything about gm?

  • don't even consider chipping a 6.5, its worthless. the money you pay for a chip you won't get shit for power, trust me. intake, exhaust, and a bigger turbo is about the only way to go on these.

  • the non electronicly controlled ones are better a turbo inter cooler makes a big difference i hear

  • @DRNEGOLICIS

Yes, easier to crank power up.

You could also put a Penninsular marine pump, injectors and high flow pre-chambers on it, then it would make some power. However, headgaskets won't live for very long....but it's fun to drive!

  • the copper head gaskets are better last long havent herd of them blowing yet . seriously why is every one so negitive about this enigne i like them they are realy reliable and long lasting i will take one over a powerjoke or cummins any day

  • Right.

  • @DLoc137 Depends on the year. I've got a 1993 6.5, pre PMD, so you can't chip it. However, you can manuelly turn the injection pump up, think I heard somewhere to not go over a quarter turn or it'll run away.

  • Yes, several companies currently make or have made aftermarket chips for the electronic controlled 6.5's Check it out, it's real easy to find.

  • Im not trying to sound like a idiot but how do you change the boost on these things? I just bought one about a month ago and I need more boost? thanks for the help

  • they say a stock turbo on a 6.5 can only hold 13psi. but this here has a bigger turbo and its cranked up to 25psi, as well as a few other things into it.

  • i have a 93 Hd2500. i can post a video of the stock GM-3 making 23 psi of continual boost. i hit 25 psi once. it is possible, just EGT's jump like crazy once you go past 15psi. check my video out. just started posting, hope to do more. :)

  • GMC version of mine. cept mine gets like 18 psi, not 25. but same interior, similar power, etc. same sound, too! love that truck

  • yea they aren't bad trucks, idk why they're hated on so much.

  • Because most grenaded in stock form. Cracked blocks, cracked heads, blown head gaskets, broke pistons, thrown rods, injection pump failure from PMD etc...

  • that's when you need to learn to how drive one. you have to let it warm up before you drive it and then let it idle a little bit before you turn it off. keep the boost low and don't rod on it, as you can see i have 25lbs on this and the factory turbo is rated for 13lbs, but there is a new turbo and other parts on here that can handle that extra power.

  • What makes you think I don't warm up or cool down? I have always warmed up and cooled down on all GAS and Diesel vehicles, including heavy equipment and generators. The 6.5 just gave most people tons of problems BUT there are a few out there that have been decent vehicles.

  • ok, well my 6.5 was turning over 212k miles and the engine was slow and ran pretty rough, so me and my dad went and bought a new engine and transmission and what not and they currently still have under 50k on them and we've never had one problem, only maitence done to it was new tires, oil changes, tranny fluid dumps, new oil filter, block heater, new AFE intake w/filter changes, and 4" straight pipe exhaust.

  • Well, at least it's a diesel anyway. Better than a crappy 454 !!

  • uhh 454's are good motors...although i'd prefer to have a SB350 with vortec heads being the fact its cheaper to buy and cheaper to mod out. but im beginning to think you don't know much about GM.

  • True, the only thing "Crappy" about the 454 BB is the Pathetic fuel mileage for the power level. The 350 SB was a much better motor unless..... your fuel budget is unlimited.

  • my cousin has over 10 grand into his 350SB w/vortecs and still manages to get 15mpg with over 450rwhp. and his 454BB chevelle has almost 700rwhp and gets 11mpg if lucky.

  • Not gonna even be close to 15MPG with it towing, just running around town, etc. if you're real easy on it --> I bet it sounds sweet though !!! With the Chevelle, fuel MPG is not a big deal because it's a play toy and not a tow or work rig.

  • uhh my cousin doesn't tow jack shit with his pickup, maybe his jet ski but he has two other pickups for that. a 1984 toyota 5spd diesel I4, and a 1977 305SB chevy, which i just recently rebuilt for him.

  • are you kidding me your fucking 32 years old and all you do is talk shit on 6.5's get a life you fucking loser

  • You have a great point! I should have never messed with 6.2's or 6.5's it was the biggest WASTE OF TIME&MONEY out of all the different Diesels I've messed with !!

    -79', 82', 96&2010 VW Diesels.(Modded except 2010)

-6.2T Suburban and ret. army pickup (Full Penninsular workup)

    -6.5 T Suburban(chip,int&exhaust)

    -95' Dodge Cummins 12Valve(modded)

    -2000 24V Cummins TwinTurbo

    -2000 Ford powerstroke(modded)

    -95' Ford Powerstroke(modded)

    -07' LBZ Dmax(PPE LV4)

    (Continues)

  • you wish buddy your only 12 so you havent messed with any of thos maybe your father has

  • I'm just not as "wise" as you right? Ok tough guy.

PS> The original age is right Mr. Matlock and I'm not hiding behing a anonymous screen name like you.

  • it's sad that you even considered owning a ford...NO BALLS! when my civic was a stock single cam pushing barely 100hp, beat a modded ford powerstroke rofl...oh and my clutch was slipping too may i add. and even after my civic got the new clutch+intake and exhaust and a nice tuneup, i toasted a ford f-350 at a 45mph roll. i just kept pulling away from him, by the time i let off i could barely see his headlights, and he was on it the whole time.

  • They're definetely not as fast as modern diesels but It has walked a few cheesy imports with tin can exhausts.

Probably stock engines though. The other weird thing is, the roll on is where mine comes alive big time for a old 95' powerstroke. It loves it when you kick it from 4th to 3'rd and stand on it. The turbo sounds like a jet engine ready for takeoff! LOL

  • funny, a modded 7.3L powerstroke...got walked by my stock honda civic with a slipping clutch that had over 170k miles on it at the time. with a motor that produces 127hp stock which im sure it was putting out less than 100hp after all the miles, and the ford still got walked.

  • The term "modded" also leaves about a thousand variables as you know from your honda experience. I'm not doubting you pulled on some guy in a old powerstroke, I just haven't had the same results you have, using my old piece of crap 95' 2wd Stroke..even with 250,000 miles on it.

  • @KB3MMX the powerstroke wasn't that old, maybe late '90's or early '00's with less than 150k on it.

  • Must be a real weak "tune" then.

    That's pretty pathetic !

  • better than a power joke definatley more reliable

  • Another good one from DRNEGOLICIS the comedian !! LMAO !!

  • never needed a tune because he never went bigger turbo or anything, he has full exhaust and intake, chipped, shit like that.

  • A chip is tuning. What chip is he running and which tune is it? The 2'nd gen Powerstrokes will do 120+ additional HP with stock split-shot injectors before they're maxed out....with the correct chip of course.

  • actually a chip isn't tuning, a chip is modifying, not tuning. tuning is where you have a professional mechanic adjust random shit like cam timing, boost, fuel delivery, oil delivery, set the idle, and making sure it runs right, etc

  • Since when is a chip or programmer not tuning. Modifying engine parameters is tuning. (timing, fuel curves, etc) That's what the aftermarket chip in the old 6.5 trucks does...but you already knew that, right?

  • it all depends on the chip and what you pay for it, and honestly for what you pay for a chip for one of these 6.5s, its not worth the low gain.

  • I'd say 80HP is not a bad gain for $325.

Maybe if you only go with a 40HP chip it's not as good but a heck of alot more than you'll ever get from just an exhaust or intake alone ! Throw some 50/50 water injection on that and it should easily make over 300hp.

  • sorry but not worth my time or money. i'd rather put money down on my 12v 5.9 cummins

  • @DLoc137

    Most definetely !!

The 12V Cummins isn't even the same ballpark as a 6.5 motor...

    I wish I still had my 95' 12V Cummins Ram !!

  • @DLoc137 I have had a 12v. They are a nice engine. The trucks don't hold up to them though. You will need a lot of upgrades to keep it running real smooth and reliable. I have seen Cummins conversions in Fords and Chevy and they seem to run more true. Chevy may be the least finicky of the three; upgrades work out well on them.

  • @Jay500500500 we have a 12v 5.9L 2-stroke cummins dropped in our 89 chevy dually

  • @DLoc137 2 stroke cummins huh

  • @JonesDieselPerforman miss type, i was obviously tired as fuck, if it were a 2stroke it wouldn't have valves, i know the drill.

  • @DLoc137 it would have exhaust valves but no intake valves, just sayin man im not talkin shit, but ya do have a badass rig tho mad props to ya mane

  • @DLoc137 detroits have valves

  • show us this truck! make a video!

  • yup expected from a ford powerjoke and they say the 6.2 and 6.5 have bad acceleration they do just fine and they werent intended for speed

  • sad

  • shows what u know dumb ass 454 junk? what a supid ass are u listening to what your saying?

  • @DRNEGOLICIS You "sir" said they were "Junk", not me. Get it right if you're going to be a ass.

454's were very good motors in their time except for the high fuel consumption rate -vs- power produced. Very inefficient. Crappy mileage is normal for a 454, so what !?!? Who cares !

  • you shit ass u just said 454s suck and theyre crappy! whats wrong with 15MPG? i get 7 with my truck i alwyas thought 7 was good till i saw these new trucks that have cylinder management an get 20 but its expected of new shit and its also expected for them to have way less power and they do have less power

  • No, never said they suck! AGAIN, GET IT RIGHT MR. FOUL MOUTH !! And 7MPG is NOT good. You could pull "light" or empty with a Semi Truck and get better MPG !

    What exactly is your point?

    Defending the MPG's of a 454 ??!!

    Give me a break !!

  • dude ur retarded got to your room

  • "Got to your room" ?? I'll get right on that one.

  • @DRNEGOLICIS dont bother, he has comments posted on another chevy guys page thats running 27 psi and bashing him saying the cummins he has would out pull the 6.5.... look up awesomechevyman and youll see it in almost every caption on the white short-wide

  • how bout u make a video and show us these heavey equipment and genrators and diesel vehicles and stuff? show us ur power down and power up sequence!

  • @DRNEGOLICIS

We don't know how to do it correctly according to you. Since you're the smart guy, tell us !!

  • INDEED!!!!!! most people dont know how to drive them and run them hard when cold and just run the shit out of em then park it! then when it blows up they call it a pice of shit!

  • Correct DRNEGOLICS, Because they can't take it and other Diesels can.

  • the PMDs were placed in the wrong area where its to hot all u have to do is move it away fron the inside of the V and put a heat sink on it and it will last forever and the craked and broken shit that happens when people dont know how to drive them

  • @DRNEGOLICIS

    You're absolutely right.

How about giving us some more items and techniques on the list of "how to make the 6.5 stay alive".

  • how much horsepower do you think your running in this truck?

and are you planning on selling this truck?

  • no clue and no

  • i would like to believe you that it's a stock turbo, but 25psi, its just not possible.

  • my dad built it up, the boost gauge reads 25lbs when fully spooled.

  • Does your oil pressure usually run around what it is in the video? Mine is always below 40 when i'm runnin it.

  • never paid any attention, but in every GM i hop into it usually sticks between 40 and 60. so idk

  • look again when its cold out or when you first start it for the day because mine reads below 40 after i'v ran it for about 30 miles, but when it's cold like 25 or below it's almost touchin 80,

  • I have ran mine when it was in the single digits and it still stays below 40. It never is where it should be. I hope my guage is off but I would think that my check guages light would be on. I think i'm going to get it checked out because if there is something wrong with my oil pump I want it fixed real quick.

  • 6.5 Diesel haha worst diesel out there. Im surprised GM sold any of those POSes.

  • the question is, would you rather have this or nothing? this has some pretty good pulling power actually. even a stock one has really good towing power. this truck has a fresh motor and tranny, maybe 50k on them. and a full 2500 drivetrain on a 1500 body. it gets me through the winter months and pulling my friends out of shit and is as simple as letting the motor idle in overdrive and just steering. i once pulled a friend out of hard snow that stood about mid calf high without using the throttle

  • I guess if your 16 and can only afford one of these POSs. Ill stick to a grown up 24v Cummins with 900lbs of torque.

  • i'll also stick with my 5.9 inline 6 cummins thats dropped into my 1ton 5spd 89 chevy crew cab+ long box dually lifted 4 inches with 31" tires and such, so you have fun too.

  • Atleast you got a good drive train in your truck but GM stuff has pissed me off for years, and Ive owned a lot newer stuff than your 89. My dodge is a much better truck than my GM trucks.

  • i like my GM's, Honda's, and only the Dodge Cummins, they make some bad ass diesels. my dad has a 6.6L duramax with the allison transmission its on 26lbs of boost, new turbo dumptube, downpipe, and a 4" straight pipe, as well as a AFE intake which is proven to filter 30% better than K&N, and a programmer with 9 set levels, set on level 5. doesn't wanna hurt the transmission since it isn't built for much power.

  • let me guess.... it's a '93

  • nope its a 94

  • I was just going by the fade and balance buttons on the radio..... I knew it was a 93 or 94 cause 91 & 92 had diffrent buttons and pre 91 had the ghost cluster,,, I'm a GM guru BTW,,, I have a '83 K30 I put a 6.5 N/A and NP4500 in,, I love the 6.5s but change the oil every 2500miles or more often like me on the every 100hr. schedule they don't hold but 7Q compared to a Cummins 12Q @ only 5.9L damn the comp ratio is retardedly high at 21.5:1 TOO need to reduce the static!!
  • yea i really dont care much for these trucks but i can tell them apart by the interior and exterior easily.

  • yea I can tell you don't care

    LMAO..

  • =] yup

  • yea and thats exactly why you havent heard of such a thing, your 16.

  • and the fact i don't drive that 6.5l anymore, its sitting at the farm again getting use. i just drove it last fall & winter.

  • is that a stock turbo? nice truck i just got a 5 inch exhaust tip for my dads and it sounds sweet

  • i had a similar 6.5 diesel it made burnouts like crazy they dont accelerate hard but when towing the perform very good and they´re able to roast tires good. nice vid

  • haha yea, at the start i was turning off of gravel and all my tires did was spinnnnn.

  • What max rpm does the governor limit it to? did I see 4000rpm?

  • it shifts at 4000 but is limited to 4500

  • thats quite high revving, my brothers 2.5 litre diesel will only rev to that.

  • lol my 1.9 redlines @ 4300 TDI VW

  • my dads old tdi revved to about that, but the last 2 revved to over 5000rpm, no power there but carry on revving non the less, had the 1.9tdi 130bhp last, has the 2.0, 140bhp now, the 110bhp revved to about 4300, like u hit a brick wall of rpm.

  • doesn't even sound like a d, how gay.

  • yea it does, obviously you just dont know what a real diesel sounds like.

  • I expected it to be faster.

  • well it is a heavy pickup. and there was a bunch of shit in the box, its a farm truck and has been thru hell and back, cant expect it to run like a million bucks.

  • LOL and diesel ontop of it =D

  • I like that Motorola E815 hanging on the dash... Rock solid phone... Great reception (with verizon anyways) I have a few of them myself and one is still in daily use..... Bad ass truck too

  • thanks man, but the phone was my dad's, i found it okay, but he always complained about it being a piece of shit, but then again what doesn't he complain about being a piece of shit? hahaha. i know that pretty much any phone that you spend...say...over $100some on, will last you awhile. i've have this same razr for 2.5years and its still going strong. a few things happen every now and then but other than that its really reliable for what i do.

  • ok, this is a 1993 or 94 6.5, somewhere said it was a stock turbo, so that makes it a GM-3, no way it can make 25psi, sorry, maybe 11-13psi.........and thats a big MAYBE, then it will shred. Either a different charger or an exaggeration, plus 6.5's will burn their pistons on the passenger side if you run that much boost, especially w/o an intercooler.

  • and at that level of boost you absolutely must have lower compression pistons, like 18:1, and a massively turned up DB/2, if all of this is true, your engine will cook in a very short amount of time, and just because duramax/powerstrokes/cummins can run those boost numbers does not mean a 21:1 compression indirect injection 6.5 can, take into account the fuel path from the pre-combustion chamber, heat dissipation, crankshaft failure, head gasket failure, etc. Be careful, that thing is a bomb.

  • I wonder why these motors and the 6.9/7.3 IDI go up to 3800/4000rpms but the direct injected duramax/powerstroke/cummins only go 3200?

  • correction, duramax's go up to 3500, we bought a wrecked 06 and put on a completely new front end, now it looks mint. and its limited at 3500, thing sure has some fucking power lmao. put the gas 3/4 to the floor from a dead stop, no brake...and it will spin a donut and leave a THICK black mark. =]

  • First of all duramax did not make an IDI motor. The 6.2/6.5 and the duramax are completely different engines. These are referred as "GM Diesels" and were made by GM. The duramax was designed by a japanese company Isuzu and named it the Duramax.

  • what does it mean til 2500?

  • I wonder how a holset Hx40 would work on these 6.5 diesels. I'd like to see someone try.

  • Already been done by a couple of people on the forums. Search "82 SWB Chevy" on youtube, I know he has a holset turbo of some sort but he won't leak any information out to us.

  • whats the highest u have ever reved it and whats the highest u can rev it until SHE BLOWS

  • it shifts at 4grand and its limited at 4500.

  • could u rev it higher? and how high do u think she will revuntill she blows?

  • not sure. and dont wanna try.

  • ok LOL

  • the truck will kill itself before the engine blows and the highest rev is actually 5100. the truck will not (blow up) the worst that would happen is that both head gaskets will blow simotainiously and if i wasnt so sure that the kid in this video was 12 i would message him and tell him one port to unplug under the dash unleashing 80HP and 90 ft plb of torque and also the rev limiter will be gone. very soon i will have a vid up about my truck.......95 6.5 liter

  • cool cant wait to see it

  • what is this port to unplug under the dash that gives you 80hp? i would like to do this to my truck 94 6.5 with marine injectors #9 resistor and 3 1/'2 straight pipe exhaust and cone filter intake

  • im 16, and i doubt that there is such a thing.

  • its funny how everyones pantys get all bunched up just becuz you put "25 psi'"

just what the hell isi the difference

    <
