@aR3DF0Xa We thoroughly burned the barrel inside and out before using to cook with, this got rid of any paint or chemicals etc. It's a good point though.
Nice pork roast! I'll bet you could smell that from miles away.
Speaking of which, that wood isn't very large, is it? Very pretty countryside, but the wood itself is fairly small (if I have the right one...) Google Maps: 50.3261°N 4.9457°W (small wood on right, or large one on left?)
I love those one lane roads and quaint little houses... That's where I should have been born.
@RonRay Yeah it's not huge, but it's ancient & natural. It's the one to the right of your co-ordinates. If you Google for "Woodland Valley NaturalBushcraft" you will bring up quite a few pages from my website that have photo slideshows on, it will show you the wood in various times throughout the year. All the best,
@000Winter000 "How long is a piece of string" It's completely dependant on how hot your fire is, how thick the metal is, how much dough your working with, a load of variables!.. So it's impossible to answer that question when campfire cooking. There's only one way to become good at cooking with the open camp-fire and that's practice! Campfire cooking is such a dynamic process; only through experience (trial & error) will you become good at it. So get out and give it a go! :D
quality idea mate! looks like it may be a hard job getting your food out! i think if i get around to trying this top idea i may do it like a 45 gallon drum bbq with may be a small tool box clasp to keep it closed and "L" or "J" shaped slots for the spit to sit in/on! top idea dude! nice one for the vid
good place u have to do bushcraft, all we have here in Jersey are small amouts of decent forests, half of them are on steep slopes and valleys, the rest are all in public footpaths
Thanks for the positive comments on the vid. As requested I will do a video on how the oven was made, also including an article on the NaturalBushcraft website :) All the best, Ashley.

not being a stick, but isnt it dangerous for the food cooking in a beer keg ie the chemicals used to protect the inside being burned etc?

This guy needs to spend a year in australia cooking in the outback
and less time watching Ray Mears.....
No one knows how to camp-cook better than Aussies...
That's why the British SAS spend so much time down under....it's training made fun and easy ( and tasty ).
