Hi there! Loved your tribute to the fabulous Miss Page. Can you tell me the name of the TV movie at 0:49 onwards? Where on earth did you manage to find it?? Thanks!
Nice tribute to one of the greatest actresses ever, except the years of her birth and death are wrong. She was born in 1924 and died in 1987. She made 'A Trip to Bountiful' in 1985.
A comment below describes 'The Pope of Greenwich Village' as a "terrible film" but I have to disagree. Besides an amazing performance by Geraldine there are also top-notch performances by Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts (perhaps his most memorable ever).
She's extraordinary, indeed. One technical problem -- both her birth and death date are listed wrong at the end (she won the Oscar for BOUNTIFUL in 1985). Here are the correct dates:
I am assembling a medley of my favorite movie clips and one of them is the aforementioned scene stealing performance of Ms. Page in The Pope of Greenwich Village. It singularly validates every accolade in these collective commentaries. I was a bit disappointed this particular movie was characterized as being not good. Maybe you have to be from that world to appreciate it as I am. I essentially could associate every character with someone I know or have known in my life.
klimakatso...that 5 minutes is the work of a master!!! I have been trying to find a tribute to this great performer that is a compilation of her great acting...where we get to see her performance instead hearing a song. Nina Simone is great..but I would have loved to see someone put together clips of her acting!!
She is greatly missed....and F Murray Abraham was right...the greatest actress in the english language!
As a brief side note the two young men standing behind Ms. Page in the opening scene here from the film A TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL are her twin sons with actor Rip Torn.
I have never tired of Ms.Page's wonderful performances. I have made it a point to catch every single filmed performance I can. I adore the performances you have showcased here, from HONDO to WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE. She is flaweless and breathtaking and I am awed at her ability to emote such truth. My greatest disappointment has been in the fact I was never privileged enough to see her on stage. Thank you for putting this together and for bringing remembrance to such a great legend.
Thanks for doing this. I also adore her. I taught acting for years and often used clips of her work. If you haven't already, be sure to look at THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE--a terrible film except for a five-minute monolog by Geraldine Page that is my personal favorite of all her work. P.S. I also heart Nina Simone! Marvelous video.
tee hee thanks. i love geraldine, but there is so little known about her, and I've spent many hours trying to dig up bits and pieces...but even in death, she's still a mystery! thanks for the compliments and i'll make sure i see pogv!!!
Side note: the person who gave me a thumbs down should get professional help. Miss page is dead, and her being God is a metaphor for her perfect artistry. Also, I am an atheist, so I really don't care if I hurt anybody's religious sentiments (bigotry)...
Both Geraldine and Vincent voiced Disney Villains too: Madame Medusa in "The Rescuers" and Professor Ratigan in "The Great Mouse Detective", respectively :)

thank you so very much. I love Geraldine...it almost makes me physically ill--with a desire to act--when I watch her in anything.

We should have a Vincent Price Day too, but that's another topic.

Agreed too!

Geraldine Page & Bette Davis were 2 acting geniuses.
The only 2 actresses that ever made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Electrifying and marvelous.
