  • this is one of my favorite early beatles song! i love to sing and play this song on my acoustic guitar! very romantic song from a dreamer :)

  • Paul considered this a throwaway song. FAIL

  • I think I'm in love...with Sir James Paul McCartney ♥

There's one problem. He's 55 years older than me -.-

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK

  • Paul is in my dreams every night ♥♥♥

  • it's fucking amazing that this wasn't at least on the Please Please Me album... this is way better than a lot of songs on that album..

  • Paul's voice is sexy.

  • Muchos no quieren a Ringo...

  • "Pete was a great drummer, but Ringo was a great Beatle." -John Lennon

Ringo had their kind of personality, unlike pete. he was the missing link, and without Ringo they wouldnt be the beatles.

  • @beatlepaulandjenn79 You're absolutely right that Ringo was necessary to the Beatles. But just for the record, John never said Pete was great, or better, or even good. The accurate quote is: "Pete Best was a drummer; Ringo Starr is a Beatle" (Beatles Monthly Book #249, January 1997, page 5).

  • Paul sings like a angel. *__*

  • quite appalling singing

  • @pinchold Well then let's hear you.

  • I can't stop listening to this.

PAUL'S VOICE IS AS INCREDIBLE AS ALWAYS <3

  • Paul's voice is so beautiful!♥ :)

  • PAUL IS BEAUTIFULL <3 :D GOOO PAUL MCCARTNEYYY I LOVE YOUU TO DEATH!!!!

  • pete was good its just he plays the same lick in every song

  • i wished i lived in the 60s because the Hofner 500/1 bass that Paul uses was only 30 Euros ( about $45) but now, the same bass is $2,093 all because of Paul

  • I think the excuse that Ringo was a better drummer then Best goes out the window only for the fact that after Best was let go, they still needed to use a session musician Andy White to play the drums for the song "Love Me DO" instead of Ringo.. I think Best was let go mostly because he didn't mingle well with others socially and the girls thought he was very good looking.

  • John had a better rock and roll voice, but paul's voice was better overall probably

  • @drewsky684 Paul's vocals in long tall sally is probably the best display of rock singing the beatles ever did. Same with Oh! Darling. No one could scream like paul. I think Paul's rock voice is really underrated because he liked to sing love songs.

  • I love that song and the deep voice

  • ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.

That is all I have say!

  • What a voice Paul!!!!!!!!!!

  • Grandioso recuerdo de los grandes de Liperpool !

  • Un gran tema de los comienzos de The Beatles, con Paul en estado de gracia!!!!

Gracias por compartir este gran documento!!!!*****

    Un abrazo desde España

    Lope

  • lol. thats so weird cause that picture of john at 1:33 is the same one on my t-shirt! xD lol.

  • They were a great BAND. That's all that matters. And songwriters par excellent.

  • So your name is TranceTechno right? Well, your right, you SUCK.

  • the young paul mccartney is the man in my dreams<333

  • WHOOOA!! this is paul singing?!! 0_0 i mean i always knew paul had a brilliantly amazing voice but he doesn't sound like himself here. he sounds like elvis presley in this song! :D that's the thing about Paul's voice that i love. they various ranges he has :) and i really like this song! The Beatles truly are the best band ever. RIP John and George miss and love you both<333 and we love you Paul and Ringo!!! :)<33

  • WOW Pauls voice is AMAZING in this song O_______O -dies- OMG PAUL I LOVE YOU ♥♥♥♥♥

  • if i had a wish i would like to see the beatles live and im 13 and i love the beatles

  • you dont know who and what the Beatles are. There are most prolific Band of ALL TIME no one come close to what they had achieved

  • i lov this ,very paul style このときにすでになんかかんせいしてたってかんじだよね、ポールのスタイル、、、、

  • The Early Beatles skiffle and rock stuff was just as unique and interesting as their later stuff.-love it!

  • without ringo they would be so different, i think the pete is o.k but the beatles couldn't be the beatles without ringo... and also when they took ringo he already was famous.....

  • @gili1484 Ringo couldn't have been that famous if he decided to join a band with out a big label contract.

  • Amazing

  • Paul's voice hasn't changed at all

  • Sweet Paul <3

  • Was this song on Anthology 1?

  • george martin was the 1 to say sack pete best lets have it right,,,as he couldant play in time mr martin felt,,so much so when they turned up with ringo the next time, goerge wouldant even give him a chance,,therfore a stand-in played on the singel love me do,,and ringo got on the lp,,and btw i have played music in bands ect since 1976,,and any real drummer will tell u ringo was brilliant,,one reason is he never spiolt a song, like i find more and more its aproprate-ness that is needed

  • @stuthebru Ringo Starr was a very mediocre drummer when he was playing for Rory Storm, I saw him live in Hamburg

  • you ARE that girl in my dreams

  • Somuchtoplay .. more like they got rid of pete cos he was better lookin that ringo and play better than him as you can hear in this song, unlike ringo who just sat at the back floppin his mop of hair about lol

  • not a great song but .. shows that pete was best on the drums cos he gave it it some on the drums unlike ringo, shame they didnt keep pete.

  • @petebest22

They got rid of Pete Best for a reason, he wasn't good enough. I think Paul, John and George knew what they were doing, they are the greatest musicians of the 20th century, they knew they needed a better drummer, therefore they got Ringo instead of Pete.

  • @nino2297ify Okay, maybe Pete was better, but it's completely uncalled for to bash Ringo like that. It wasn't his fault Pete had to leave. It was George Martin, so get mad at him, not the man who was selected to play instead of him and had nothing to do with Pete leaving. There was no reason for you to say that about Ringo.

  • @BananaRamaMuffins

    this is my opinion!

i know what a good drummer is!

    i can say everything i want because i'm a free man I :)

  • @Somuchtoplay "I think Paul, John and George knew what they were doing, they are the greatest musicians of the 20th century"

Er...with all due respect, I don't think so. The Beatles were a great band, but none of them were virtuosos on their instrument. George was a competent lead guitarist, but he was no Hendrix, Clapton, Page or even Carl Perkins or Buddy Holly. Paul was quite a good bass player, but not compared to, say, John Entwistle of The Who, who played bass like a lead instrument

  • @Somuchtoplay John was never that brilliant a guitarist...he played chords with 3 fingers only. Ringo suited their style very well, but again, as a player he couldn't compare to Ginger Baker, Keith Moon or many of his other contemporaries.

So yes, The Beatles were a great band. But to claim they were great musicians is nonsense. And there are many others - both inside and outside of the rock sphere - who can legitimately lay more claim to being "the greatest musicians of the 20th Century".

  • @Nuttybott

Well, at the time I wrote that first comment I was kind of in a beatle-craze. Having said that, I still consider them to be incredibly talented musicians because they were entrepeneurs of rock. Paul was the first bass-player to really play melodies and not just notes. Their voices and songwriting was also astonishing. I agree with you that I was out of line calling them the greatest musicians of the 20th century. However, claiming they were NOT great musicians is utter bullocks.

  • @TranceTechnoSucks Bullocks? I think you mean "bollocks". Bullocks was a department store in Los Angeles LOL!

  • @TranceTechnoSucks And I still say that The Beatles were COMPETENT musicians at best...none of them were GREAT musicians. Paul was probably the best all-rounder, although like the others he couldn't even read music, and required a lot of assistance from George Martin with arrangements, etc.

  • @petebest22 Yeah, real shame, because the band went nowhere with Ringo, while Pete went on to become one of the world's best-known and famous drummers with Pete's All Stars, who topped the charts in the 60s, toured the world, made millions of dollars, and lived comfortably the rest of their lives. Oops! Pete limped along for a few years, then quit the music business to become a baker. Yeah, amazing drummer.

  • i bet decca people are like shit we made a huge mistake :p

  • Their name already was The Beatles by the way. But, love the song <3

  • id get gay with Paul

  • @Cidantis no one cares

  • @THEwhiteRHIN0 obviously u care coz u responded. and for that i thank you.

  • OMGoodness its been years since i heard the Decca stuff, especially this one forgot how great it was, love u tube, so many memories and things i never thought to see or hear again. I been a beatles fan since befor i was born at least thats how it seems and its all been good. miss you john, george always will.xxxx

  • i love the rythm of this=]

  • Isn't this off of the BBC record? If so, that's Ringo playing.

  • @swr112261 Actually, it's not from Live At The BBC, it's from Anthology 1 I believe.

  • @swr112261 It's from the Decca-session in 1.1.1962 with Pete Best on drums. I think he handles his kit quite good.

  • Oh, Paul <3

  • Yeah !! the early years !!

  • I love it

  • so beautiful song

  • What I wrote is not ridiculous. If Mona Best hadn't brought the Quarrymen in to play at the Casbah, they may never have met Pete. She also bought him a fantastic new drum kit - which many bands couldn't have afforded to buy. Allan Williams (is he reliable enough as a source of information???) said Pete was a great drummer, but the fact that he had his own drum kit was definitely a point in his favour too. So, even if it wasn't intentional, Mona certainly paved the way for Pete to join the group.

  • Comment removed

  • Look up "Pete Best Story - 4" and listen to the first 60 seconds ... THAT is Allan Williams account of the events and it has NOTHING to do with Mona Best.

  • i love dis songie

  • Hi!the girl singing Fireflies are you listening now?

  • Pete has a great beat and I can't understand people who are saying he's not a good drummer. He has a bit different style than Ringo (who was also an ok drummer) and a very hard beat.

  • I have no idea whether Pete Best is (or was) a good drummer or not. But from what I've read I get the impression that he was given the job because the Beatles played in his mother's club in Liverpool. (Or maybe they played there because they gave him the job, like 'you scratch my back & I'll scratch yours' type of thing???) Mona Best was apparently quite an intimidating person.

  • @expatbritingermany

I dream of the Beatles everynight "Like Dreamers Do."Copy that on your page if you're a true fan. lolz

  • Actually they played there before hiring him and he was not a bad drummer. There were personal things why they fired him.

  • petes mother had a cafe in the basement of her house, so they were quite well off compared to the others and i expect thats what got him in the band.. they had a place to practice..

  • @expatbritingermany - that is ridiculous. You don't know your Beatle's history. The Beatles chose Pete ... he was already in a band when Paul called him up asking if he would be intersted in drumming for them on their first Hamburg gig in August 1962. There is not a single reputable account of Pete joining the band that mentions Mona had anything to do with it.

  • saw john NAKED.COOOOOOOOOLLLL Song!

  • If you are going to compare Pete Best with Ringo then it is totally unfair to compare these recordings with Ringo in 1968 (or 2008) or something....

Compare these 1962 recordings with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes from the same time with Ringo on drums. Actually, not easy to do - whenever they cut a record in those days they used session drummers, so there is very, very little of Ringo on record and even the early Beatles recordings wih Ringo might not always actually be Ringo...

  • Excellent point. The "Pete was a lousy drummer" bit is so tired and old ... there simply is no proof. When supposed drummers post here on youtube that they think he's so bad ... what about the fans. If he was that bad, why did they keep him for two years and why was he, and the band, so popular? You can't do that with a bad drummer ... it doesn't make sense!

  • Paul sounds amazing! Love it

  • Truth be told, Pete was a bit of a rebel in the group. He didn't hang out with them often...went off to do his own thing ..was very good looking the ladies loved him, and he would not comb his hair in the new Beatle style.......I do think he is an awesome person through it all.

  • He has said that he would have combed the hair like the others if they would asked him to do so. Every information is available on this matter. =)

  • @timostastic - thanks for making this point. The whole hair myth is so ridiculous ... in fact, Pete did comb his hair in this style in his later group as the styles were changing ... you are right, no one every asked him!

  • Song is very good))

But Ringo better than Pit. not discussed

  • They were very Good!

  • Cool tune with a clear Merseybeat styling. I also dig The Applejacks version.

  • how can you say this? this song is amazing

  • lol, i was thinking the originals from this session would be early versions of the real beatles. i don't hear it at all. this sounds the same as the 50's cover tunes.

devils advocate: decca has been framed. there is absolutely no hint of what the beatles were going to write in the future. of course the talent was there. but could they write good material? i think you definitely give em crack at it. george obvioulsy thought so. good call george.

  • According to Pete Best in his documentary about their early years, it was Brian who sent them a telegram telling them to start rehearing their own material for the EMI auditions.

  • @mkrobinson95 I have that documentry on dvd.

  • I think it's a great dvd ... it's available here on youtube as well, under "The Pete Best Story" ... really insightful.

  • @mkrobinson95 I also orded The Beatles lost Decca Sessions on CD

  • Paul's voice is sexy in this song, just like George's voice is sexy in Three Cool Cats!

  • Good song.... Paul's voice is sexy

  • ^.^ u can say tht again

  • yep. lol

  • beatles made hundreds and hundres song like this.they'd had a magic ability that noone can get easily..

  • man this a good song.

  • Sounds like Devo copped the intro

  • Wasn't their name 'The Silver BeEtles' at this point?

Or had they already added an 'A'?

  • I don't think they were ever called Beetles. I mean that was the "joke". A word play on Beat music and the bugs (from Buddy Holly's group The Crickets)

  • No, they were definitely once 'The Beetles'.

In May 1960, they went from 'The Quarry Men' to 'The Beatals' (written like that). When they backed for Johnny Gentle on May 10, 1960, The had become The Silver Beetles. After/during their Scotland 'tour', they reverted to 'The Beatles' in June 1960, only to go back to 'The Silver Beetles', which in July became 'The Silver Beatles'. On August 16th they finalized the name 'The Beatles'.

  • Whoa! Thank you, Basil Exposition. No - seriously. I'm well impressed by your attention to detail, Flamer2203.

  • Very Nice To Know, Glad it's appreciated :D

    Thank you very much (:

  • @Flamer2203 - yes, and they were supposed to call themselves 'Long John and the Silver Beetles', in the tradition of groups with such names as 'Rory Storm and the Hurricanes', 'Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas', etc, but they refused.

  • Yeah, I think I heard that in the anthology(ies).

Wasn't Ringo orignially from Rory Storm and the Hurricanes?

I know many people are actually persuaded that they WERE once called Long John and the Silver Beetles, but they never were. (:

  • Yes Ringo was Rory Storm and The Hurricanes' first drummer

  • @FlamingoKicker - I believe they did actually call themselves the 'Silver Beetles' for a short time, before changing to the 'Silver Beatles' and eventually just the 'Beatles'.

  • Decca rejected this voice too? Shocking. A good song too. I'm the one in the dream, Paulie, remember?

  • i think any song the beatles did...they did best.

  • which one is singing this?

  • Paul is singing...

  • Paulie. (:

  • paul

  • I should have been born about 30 years earlier and still with with the same music progression! At least I could a couple of of number one songs! ; ) I hope...

  • Is it me, or is this slightly sped up compared to the original?

  • It's you. :)

  • its official. i was born in the wrong decade.

this is what i call music

  • me too im 11

  • Same here

  • same here

  • Paul has a banging voice. (:

    They all were very talented.

This song just makes you want to be in love.

  • @x0Bedward Paul was a crooner alright. John's soulful voice and Paul's crooning were an unbeatable combination for the Beatles.

  • Actually Pete was a better drummer than ringo... but 'cuse of his attitude he got kicked out of the beatles xD

anyway harrison went much better than pete

  • You are very misinformed. The major reason why Pete got kicked out was because his drumming was too amateur for the direction the band was going in. Hence, Ringo entered the picture.

    Read a little, yeah?

  • You need to watch "The Pete Best Story" here on youtube ... listen to the folks who were there, other musicians, the fans. Remember, George Martin didn't even feel comfortable with Ringo at first. There is NO doubt the main reason for sacking Pete were other than his playing. They were just looking for an excuse. Review ALL the vids of The Pete Best Story and you will realize it's not so cut and dry that Ringo was "better".

  • 4 months later...

just listen to pete's drumming in all of these songs. so plain and that drum roll every 2 seconds in this song is annoying. to me he wast plain and pretty unoriginal.

  • thats how the song is supposed to sound....you think he wrote the drumming part?!?!

  • Pete deserves credit being a member of The Beatles

  • why am i getting thumbs down on everything? it's true. if he was so great why was he kicked out?

  • He at least deserves credit for being a Beatle. He got kicked out for numerous reason one was he got kicked out because he didn't cut his hair like the other three, and his beats weren't suitable for George Martin

  • The hair thing is totally bogus. There is not a reputable source on the subject that will say the hair had anything to do with it at all ... the fact is, he was never asked to change his hair.

  • He couldn't get his straight like other three because it was so curly.

  • @laidout

Did someone say Pete Best was great? Ringo wasn't great. Listening to this or any other Beatles recording with Best I don't hear great but I certainly think he could have held his own on any Beatles tune I've ever heard.

  • Please, Pete Best couldn't carry Ringo's drumsticks.

  • Ringo was not better than Pete. They had a bit different style, that's all.

  • Comment removed

  • not a very dynamic sound from the early beatles i guess they were still learning all the songs sound the same unlike the famous non silver beatles

  • "I 'sawr' a girl in my dreams..."

What a nice british accent, Paulie:P

  • I can't understand why people are still talking about this. As George Martin said, Ringo was the 4º Beatle. Pete had talent, there's no doubt, but could you imagine The Beatles that we had without Ringo?

  • In the process of not understanding why people are still talking about this - you're talking about it! That's how easy it is to get sucked into it.

I agree with superman11978, the star of the show here is McCartney. Just fantastic!

  • the beatles without ringo? don't even go there. *shudders* he almost always had that amazing smile on his face...

  • As Pauline Sutcliffe (Stu's sister) has said, Stu was the 4th Beatle, Pete was the 5th, Ringo was the 6th. This is a fact.

  • @mkrobinson95 Your right Stu came right after George, then Pete joined, then Ringo replaced him and Stu left a year after he joined then Paul took over the bass duties.

  • Right, but to be clear, Stu left while it was John, Paul, George, Stu and Pete ... then months later they replaced Pete with Ringo.

  • such a song .

    i love it.

  • your all so brave when its not you that got screwwed out of millions

  • Forget all this talk about Ringo and Pete Best. The real star here is Paul. What a voice!

  • Great song, I love it! It's great to hear the early Beatles music before they were famous.

    Peace

  • this song is amazingggg

  • i love this songs

  • Pete was a good drummer, but Lennon and possibly Mcartney were jealous of the attention Pete got from the female fans....

  • This Ringo & Pete thing. I look at it this way. I've been fortunate to go out with some beautiful women in my time, but sometimes the chemistry, or whatever it is, just isn't there. It just doesn't feel right! No matter how beautiful they are - it's not going to work. Same with Ringo and Pete. Ringo made it feel right - and Pete didn't. And that takes nothing away from Pete Best and his ability as a drummer.

  • Interesting point

  • 0:15...The quintessential Pete Best drum fill. He uses it repeatedly throughout the Decca audition recordings.

  • What is this about Pete Best being a better drummer thatn Ringo? Bottom line is Pete got kicked out and they brought in Ringo cause in Paul and Johns opnion he was the best. You gona argue with paul and john?

  • hahaha good point for you

    it soo true

    duh :P
