@AdisloKazdan Some people don't like the design chosen for the Odyssey Class (Enterprise F). And the fact that it was chosen through a contest makes it worse to some people, because they think there were better choices in said contest.
@AdisloKazdan We can play as both Feds and Klingons in STO (the fact that they are two different factions means plenty of PvP), so there should be trailers for both sides. :)
I love Star Trek and all but as a long time MMO player who has experienced at least a dozen games on the market, I have to say that this game is fail. Ground combat is just horrid and space combat puts me to sleep. I suppose some of you would play it simply because of a love for all things Star Trek or maybe you just enjoy the storyline...that's all well and good. As someone who plays MMO's to play MMO's, this game is no good. Just my honest observation.

@NinjatoBlade Oh. Well technically you're fighting most of the time - you start out on the Klingon Front, then move on to the Romulans, Cradassians, Borg and eventually Undine. But you can do exploration missions as side-quests.
What I love about this game is that it's the first F2P MMO that isn't a Pay 2 Win game. Almost everything that is purchased can be obtained for free just by playing the game, and Cryptic still makes some money off it which is good.

And, after a period of relative inactivity, the Borg have begun to encroach on the Alpha Quadrant once more.

Fantastic that they made it F2P, never was really a star trek fan but I really like the game.
I'm level 15, and I'm loving it so far. But I think they should put the Klingon faction playable from the beginning (Right now it's only for lvl 25's I think) but still great game.

So i downloaded this earlier and this game is pretty good so far, after looking around on the forums this game is way more tactical and requires a lot more actual thought then any game that was made with WoW's babysitting hand holding mechanics. I'll say i'm still a star wars fan but this game (only lvl 3 so far, i played swtor till lv 50 and finished all my class quests both sith and jedi side) destroys swtor. The seller was hearing Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto doing vulcan voices
@AoiMitsuko I see you posted this comment a week ago so I'd imagine you've become disappointed with STO by now. I played it shortly after launch and found ground combat to be HORRIBLE and space combat to be slow and boring. This game belongs as a free to play. Kinda wish I didn't spend money on it since it turned out to be a waste of time.
@Drewha696 nope haven't gotten bored, if you haven't played in YEARS you should play it again especially since no game stays exactly the same for years... I STILL love this game. I played this over the past few days using split cam and streaming it on a messenger program that i'm on frequently and managed to get 1 devoted wow player who got bored of babysitting gameplay to come play, 1 person who doesn't like mmorpgs has been playing, and even someone who hates games!!!
@Drewha696 From your "observations" it seems you are one of those mmo players that bases everything off of a beta and then after the 1st month or so of launch... If you don't play a game for a good year or 2 since it was released and then come back "years later" to comment, unless you've played recently your comments just become void... just saying. I've been playing MMO's since NWN and i like games like STO that are more strategy based rather then "tab, auto attack, skill button, auto attack"
I was in SWTOR's beta up till the DAY of release... and i'll say this much, after watching gameplay vids of this game, the space fights alone blow SWTOR out of the water.. SWTOR is (and yes the developers even admitted this) a game that was built using the mechanics of WoW (painful when the dev's call their own game a wow clone isn't it). The space fighting in that game is a flash version of Star Fox... TERRIBLE. I was very upset as a HUGE star wars fan. I'm downloading this NOW!!!
i started playing this in 2010 and i have to say STO is very great and i have seen fantastic changes and in-game you just ask for help and you WILL get it thats sme of the best things there are
SWTOR player here and I must say this looks pretty damn awesome. I'm downloading as I type and I feel embarrased that some people would even compare this to TOR. We aren't all like that, just a few bad apples that spoil the bunch :)

I got an email through about this, was like "ooo whats this", come here and Iam thinking now "wow, if my pc will run I must try" (my pc is oldish and slow, will upgrade later though).
Looks good for an online, just hope it isn't like all those other online free games where you join for free, get to play for free but some of the missions you have to pay for things to complete the missions.
@TheDragonHeart666 The game itself is pretty easy, at least to me. You should be able to play all the way through without having to buy store gear, but you'll be tempted to, that's why it's there.

@GreasyLazor It's free the first time, then the price begins to mount as you get bigger and more powerful ships. Fortunately, right now it only uses Energy Credits which are pretty easy to come by.

i am now lvl 6 but i have a problem if anyone can help me out, i can't seem to talk in zone chat everytime i try it comes up with an error saying newly created accounts aren't permmited to use zone, anyone know how i can fix this or do i have to be a higher lvl?
@spyda1337 If you're a free player, you have restrictions on the chat: it's rate limited, broadcast chat is restricted, and you can only send private messages to friends. However, these restrictions go away if you do any of the following: play 20 hours of aggregate play across all characters, get Cryptic Points, buy from the Cryptic Store, or get a subscription. For a full list of restrictions, see the F2P Features Matrix on the STO website. (I can't post a link for some reason)
Can you actually walk around your ship now? I played the trial when it was pay for but didn't sub because you couldn't walk around your ship. Now it's F2P I might give it another go.
@TheStevenWhiting I guess its been a while since uve played the game. Yes you can go walk about on youre ship. u can go to the crew deck, the bridge and engineering decks. They even sell bridge costume slots in the C-Store. Theres also a lot of newer stuff u havnt seen, judging by the fact that you didnt play since you couldnt walk about on your ship. @Cewlakow Build your own ship? No. However, each design contains parts you can use to customize its appearence - for example, the Assault Cruiser can be set to appear as a Sovereign, Noble or Majestic class, or a hybrid of any of those designs.
Just a FYI: None of this trailer is real. You cannot - Diplomacy your way through situations. You cannot be on your bridge during combat, you do not get any first contact missions in the way of negotiating a new species etc (instead you meet them and they ask for medical supplies or other useless items. Go back to starbase, buy and come back, thats it) etc. etc. I used to love this game in the closed beta, but its been destroyed gradually through updates. Endgame is a horrible grind.

ok first off people quit saying it isn't as good as SWTOR because the two are no where a like other then name. Star Trek focuses on the future of exploration and StarWars focus's on galactic warfare. Besides this is STO's F2P opening video. You SWTOR players go back to playing your game and stop saying your game is better because in all honesty it is a stupid arguement and Star Trek and Star wars don't need to be compared together. @Speclava In all honesty they are very comparable, but both have their finer qualities. Star Trek space for instance is... amazing, simply amazing. The combat in space is quite an experience imo. SWTOR's space is a Fing joke. Star Trek is quite complicated though which is disappointing. Also the storyline in SWTOR is by far better than I would have ever imagined in an MMO.
They need to combine to build the ultimate game :). Star Wars for life though!
@Speclava exactly, getting tired of listening to swtor is better than sto which isn't as good as wow and they're all better than eq2. Variety is a good thing, pick the one you like best and play that one, if you don't like another game that's fine, it's just not the game for you but that doesn't make it a bad game, just different.
@OshMMf Naw. Both games just have a distinct art style. Star Trek went for a more realistic look while SWTOR went for more of a cartoony look so most pcs can run it.
I'm not sure this is a well-written commercial. Some of the language seems pretty lofty, as if it was interchangeable with any fantasy game. They just interspersed some basic catchphrases with Star Trek memes and had some guy read it in a posh accent.
To all of you naysayers about PWE owning this game, don't knock it till you try it. Seriously. I've been with STO almost since launch, and it's only going to get better from here. Keep it up Cryptic!

@AoiMitsuko I see you posted this comment a week ago so I'd imagine you've become disappointed with STO by now. I played it shortly after launch and found ground combat to be HORRIBLE and space combat to be slow and boring. This game belongs as a free to play. Kinda wish I didn't spend money on it since it turned out to be a waste of time.

@Drewha696 nope haven't gotten bored, if you haven't played in YEARS you should play it again especially since no game stays exactly the same for years... I STILL love this game. I played this over the past few days using split cam and streaming it on a messenger program that i'm on frequently and managed to get 1 devoted wow player who got bored of babysitting gameplay to come play, 1 person who doesn't like mmorpgs has been playing, and even someone who hates games!!!

@Drewha696 From your "observations" it seems you are one of those mmo players that bases everything off of a beta and then after the 1st month or so of launch... If you don't play a game for a good year or 2 since it was released and then come back "years later" to comment, unless you've played recently your comments just become void... just saying. I've been playing MMO's since NWN and i like games like STO that are more strategy based rather then "tab, auto attack, skill button, auto attack"

I was in SWTOR's beta up till the DAY of release... and i'll say this much, after watching gameplay vids of this game, the space fights alone blow SWTOR out of the water.. SWTOR is (and yes the developers even admitted this) a game that was built using the mechanics of WoW (painful when the dev's call their own game a wow clone isn't it). The space fighting in that game is a flash version of Star Fox... TERRIBLE. I was very upset as a HUGE star wars fan. I'm downloading this NOW!!!

SWTOR player here and I must say this looks pretty damn awesome. I'm downloading as I type and I feel embarrased that some people would even compare this to TOR. We aren't all like that, just a few bad apples that spoil the bunch :)

I got an email through about this, was like "ooo whats this", come here and Iam thinking now "wow, if my pc will run I must try" (my pc is oldish and slow, will upgrade later though).
Looks good for an online, just hope it isn't like all those other online free games where you join for free, get to play for free but some of the missions you have to pay for things to complete the missions.

@TheDragonHeart666 The game itself is pretty easy, at least to me. You should be able to play all the way through without having to buy store gear, but you'll be tempted to, that's why it's there.

@GreasyLazor It's free the first time, then the price begins to mount as you get bigger and more powerful ships. Fortunately, right now it only uses Energy Credits which are pretty easy to come by.

i am now lvl 6 but i have a problem if anyone can help me out, i can't seem to talk in zone chat everytime i try it comes up with an error saying newly created accounts aren't permmited to use zone, anyone know how i can fix this or do i have to be a higher lvl?

@spyda1337 If you're a free player, you have restrictions on the chat: it's rate limited, broadcast chat is restricted, and you can only send private messages to friends. However, these restrictions go away if you do any of the following: play 20 hours of aggregate play across all characters, get Cryptic Points, buy from the Cryptic Store, or get a subscription. For a full list of restrictions, see the F2P Features Matrix on the STO website. (I can't post a link for some reason)

Can you actually walk around your ship now? I played the trial when it was pay for but didn't sub because you couldn't walk around your ship. Now it's F2P I might give it another go.

@TheStevenWhiting I guess its been a while since uve played the game. Yes you can go walk about on youre ship. u can go to the crew deck, the bridge and engineering decks. They even sell bridge costume slots in the C-Store. Theres also a lot of newer stuff u havnt seen, judging by the fact that you didnt play since you couldnt walk about on your ship. Hope to see you in game if you do try it out :D

@Cewlakow Build your own ship? No. However, each design contains parts you can use to customize its appearence - for example, the Assault Cruiser can be set to appear as a Sovereign, Noble or Majestic class, or a hybrid of any of those designs.

Just a FYI: None of this trailer is real. You cannot - Diplomacy your way through situations. You cannot be on your bridge during combat, you do not get any first contact missions in the way of negotiating a new species etc (instead you meet them and they ask for medical supplies or other useless items. Go back to starbase, buy and come back, thats it) etc. etc. I used to love this game in the closed beta, but its been destroyed gradually through updates. Endgame is a horrible grind.

ok first off people quit saying it isn't as good as SWTOR because the two are no where a like other then name. Star Trek focuses on the future of exploration and StarWars focus's on galactic warfare. Besides this is STO's F2P opening video. You SWTOR players go back to playing your game and stop saying your game is better because in all honesty it is a stupid arguement and Star Trek and Star wars don't need to be compared together. Besides it is rude to over advertise on another companies ad.

@Speclava In all honesty they are very comparable, but both have their finer qualities. Star Trek space for instance is... amazing, simply amazing. The combat in space is quite an experience imo. SWTOR's space is a Fing joke. Star Trek is quite complicated though which is disappointing. Also the storyline in SWTOR is by far better than I would have ever imagined in an MMO.
They need to combine to build the ultimate game :). Star Wars for life though!

Variety is a good thing, pick the one you like best and play that one, if you don't like another game that's fine, it's just not the game for you but that doesn't make it a bad game, just different.

I'm not sure this is a well-written commercial. Some of the language seems pretty lofty, as if it was interchangeable with any fantasy game. They just interspersed some basic catchphrases with Star Trek memes and had some guy read it in a posh accent.
