  • this or the fender superchamp XD

also wich one reacts better with pedals?

    wich one has better clean???

    i cant choose :(

  • Now lets take this into a real situation. We have a 5watt amp and we have a 50 watt amp, we do the math doubling the wattage on the 5 watt, so 10w is 3db more than 5w. 20w is 6db than 5w. 40w is 9db more than 5w. 50w is 10db more than 5w. This is twice the perceived volume for the human ear. Now the speaker is 95db. 95db at 2w is 98db, at 4w is 101db, at 8w is 104db, at 16w it is 107db, at 32w is 110db, at 64w it is 113db. So to make a 5w amp as loud as a 50 you need a 412 with 103db sensitivity

  • To the people who think 5watts isnt enough. You have to use the formulas. 1st speaker sensitivity: the speaker in this combo is 95db at 1w measuring distance 1 meter (about 3.29ft) 2nd wattage increase: everytime you double wattage sound increases 3db. 3rd number of speakers: everytime you double the number of speakers you gain 3db. 4th tube amps are measured diferent: in the clean chanell or right before breakup that is the wattage they are rated for, ss have same volume clean or distorted.

  • what is the blue pedal that was in with the amp not the single footswitch

  • @MatKiller1197

    Behringer Reverb

  • from where did you get this amp?

  • @orfeasDiabata

    thomann music store

  • thanks!

  • @laripsspiral pedal it was together with this amp?

  • @orfeasDiabata

Yeah, it comes with a channel selector.

  • when i've to refresh the ehm tubes? my friend, he plays in a quite pro-band, has an Engl and he's using his tube already for a few years without ever replacing it.. is this normal?

  • Is it heard over a "moderated drummer" just by itself? If no, would it if linked to a cab?

  • Do you know if it is powerful enough to facilitate Active Pickups, because I know for sure my 10w Transistor practise amp isn't :D Please reply I need to know!!

  • katoin 5sekunttia ja olin että "nyt kuulostaa kyllä niin suomalaiselta kun vaan kuulostaa voi" ja oikeassa olin :D hieno video

  • @Xiacro

    :D

  • too many annoying so called musicians who talk out of their ASS!! I get tired of hearing about the 5 watt valve thing being too quiet??? valve amps are 3 times louder than a trans! ok! and btw, I have played in a venue with a 5 watt valve amp with a shure sm57, put through a PA System, it worked fine!! :)

  • great stuff, just bought same one and sounds amazing with my Gibson LP studio with BBpros, can you share your settings for these amp? cheers

  • oh and where did you get that guitar??? its real nice

  • @battleswedeJr

That's a DIY kit I put together and painted.

  • Nice guitar playing!!! nice review! I'm gping to get one of these as soon as i can. are they much louder than the HT-1R? and does this have reverb?

  • @battleswedeJr

I haven't tried HT-1, but this one can get pretty loud. The newer version has reverb, this one hasn't.

  • awesome tone! Especially from the 10" internal speaker!

  • Funny how much difference that extra 2 inches make ;)

I just bought this combo, should arrive tomorrow. I also play a S1-100 through either a Marshall 4x12 or Blackstar HT 2x12 cab. I'm expecting my HT-5 combo to sound pretty good through the 2x12 cab.

  • @LWRCftw

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @laripsspiral my old 10 watt was really quiet. at full volume, it wasn't very loud.

  • @LWRCftw

Doubtless that was solid state. A 5 watt valve amp is a different beat altogether. This is probably as loud as a 75 watt solid state amp at full pelt

  • @Assmask yeh it was a solid state. I didn't know tubes were that loud. solid states suck :\

  • @LWRCftw it's a 30W speaker and a 5W amp

  • @laripsspiral right.

  • @LWRCftw Only if you are totally deaf. Get out and actually try one!

  • @ukshrednoodle lulz why would I do that, I have a Blackstar HT40

  • @LWRCftw it is 5 Tube watts, more than enough to rock the house, and play small venues.

  • @LWRCftw I don't want to sound like a jerk but you're wrong. I've been recording, rehearsing and gigging with the HT-5. The only situation in which I needed "more" was when our Rythm guitarist plugged into a 100watt tube head with a 4x12. I hooked the HT-5 to a 4x12 as well and at 6,5-7 my drummer wanted me to turn it down! It's got plenty of volume for any situation, plus a Line Out with cab emulation to go direct to the mixing board, which sounds fantastic. If you like the tone, check it out!

  • @SoundborgTheBand Ah, OK. See, I have experience with low-watt solid state amps, and they're very quiet. Apparently tube amps sound louder because of low end harmonics, or something like that. I was wrong.

  • @LWRCftw LOL. 5 Watts of Pure Class A Tube would blow your mum.

  • @mistertrent696 Tubes are so much freaking better than solid states, it's not even funny.

  • Thomman.de for the best prices,bro! ;)

  • Is the Blackstar HT-5 combo big enough for little gigs? :)

  • Hey good video! Is the internal speaker turned off when you use the external speaker? And is it louder or get more power?

  • I used to have a fender frontman 212r and i just got this today and it didnt impress me that much maybe its because i am used to two 12's but it didnt make me go wow?

  • Have u ever tried it iwth EMGs? 81/85? I have guitar with em and i would like to buy that amp and to play crunchy metal on it, what do u thiink abyout it?

  • Is this amp loud enough to play small gigs, like small clubs and stuff?

  • Da seh ich doch das Thomannklebeband ;)

  • Does it sound good at low volumes?

  • @EuropeFactor

It does, that's the best part of it.

  • Nice Les Paul, what color is it?

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

Technically, it's not a Les Paul, it's just a LP shaped DIY set guitar. :) And colour, mixture of blue and yellow plus some black.

  • What was that blue guitar at the end? Sweet playin btw!

    mitch

  • @MitchRulzWorld

It's a cheapo Korean 7 string, the brand name is Wolf.

  • I think one thing this video highlights really well is how much a bigger speaker can open up the sound.

  • nice guitar man so is the amp!

  • what was that song played while you were opening the box?

  • @ubad00d

It's my own song, called "Never gonna give up rock'n'roll". :)

  • @laripsspiral Wowww, congratulations it sounds really awesome :D

  • @laripsspiral This has 2 preamp tubes, and I think one is the power stage, and it uses the Blackstar stompbox designs for preamp sounds, so does this get good tube saturation when cranked?

  • @theShowStopper321

I think it got a bit muddy with volume maxed, but I have only tried it once. It's pretty loud. :)

  • Can this do like Hendrix Style ?

  • @ZacharyWeekend

Hmm, didn't he use Fuzz quite extensively?

  • As a proud owner of a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb combo I have to say the tone of this amp is fuckin sick, I really cant imagine anyone in this price bracket looking anywhere else for their amp.

  • hello again.. the ht5t have an emulated headphone output, so does it mean i can do direct recording and getting the tone of this amp ??? Cheers~

  • @Orbsee

Yup Check out my other vids, I have some where I've used the emulated output.

  • Thanks man for the review....I'm doing endless research into cheaper tube combos...this helped..still not sure to get this, or the bergeraa v22..any views yourself on this....by the way...terveysia porista :)

  • @stevoe1000

I have no experience of that amp. Blackstar now has an 1W version of the HT available, that might be worth checking out too, in case you're looking for bedroom amp.

  • greetings..

do you run your delay and reverb pedals in the FX loop or in front of the HT-5?

  • @bchamorro

    In the FX loop.

  • greeting~ so the ht-5 combo can be plug to another extension cabinet?

  • @Orbsee

Yup, or two, if the ohms match.

  • Very informative video, thank you!

  • Cool Amp!! i really like Blackstar! how much money was this one ?

  • is this any good for metal? or will i need a pedal or two?

  • @vampyrhart

Depending what you mean with "metal". If it's the extreme kind, you might need something to boost and tighten the sound up.

  • Sewage water green, not the best colour for a guitar....

  • @KX36

    :D Your opinion is wrong.

  • Can I use it in some small gigs?(mic'd, of course)

  • hey man would this amp be good enough for a small to medium gig/venue

  • @lukekkv

I cannot see why not. You might have to mic it though.

  • @lukekkv A lot of people are getting the head and a Palmer Speaker Simulator so you can go direct to board with no mic or cab. I've heard some amazing results.

  • Hey man how mutch did you get this amp for O.O? i realy want 1. xD

  • @MusiClymax

I think it was less than 400 euros.

  • @laripsspiral Wow , totaly worth it, thanks man! cheers.

  • hey dude what the settings for the one at 4:10?

  • This amp scares me...what the hell is my HT40 gonna sound like when I get it this coming Tues? Oh shit. ; )

  • The tone with the 12" speaker is amazing. Or is that due to the Radix?

  • @jb1563700

    I mean Schecter, of course.

  • @jb1563700

    Could be partly.

  • you know I have the amp and Idon't like it !

  • Does this amp maybe come with and fooswitch so oyu can toogle between clean and distorsion chanel?

  • @picajoool

    Yup, it does.

  • hey wait when u switch to 12 inch speaker are u switching to a cab

  • do you think you could get decent metal tones out of this with an overdrive in front? im not talking about brutal distortion for shreading i mean like lamb of god and metallcia stuff

  • @puppetmaster532 metallica and lamb of god hardley use any distortion at all so it is possible to get their kinda tones with just this amp, its quite an all round amp aswell

  • Dude, are you stoned?

  • very nice guitar ;-)

    Sounds very good too

  • Sounds GREAT !!! Thank you for sharing !

    Dave

  • mm :) the sound at the end of the video was nice :)..was that only the combo again? or any additional dist device? and is this ISF control that effective?

  • I really was impressed with Black Star amps when I was recently shopping for my new amp. They are fucking expensive though.

I went with the Egnater Rebel 30 combo. No complaints.

  • there not expensive compared to most amps

  • how heavy is this amp? weight? thanks

  • I'm sure Google knows.

  • @pedal5 11.5kg

  • @pedal5 I think I heard around 14kg

  • @pedal5 11lbs

  • maybe to your ears. most people love the tone of this amp.

  • people can either read payed reviews oir go and listen to the amp themselves..videos only tell you half the storey..i was looking to buy one until i went and played both e mini stack and the combo..the stack was better than the combo but over all they both were like i said..

  • @fretboarder

You mean it sounds too bright or bassy in this video too?

Sure, it's a good idea to test it before buying, but e.g. in this video it sounds pretty much as it does in the room. It doesn't magically change into a completely different amp when recording it.

  • ur talking rubbish, blackstars amp are amazing and r there pedals

  • well fuck off and buy one then fool!!

  • rockfreak611: Speaker type can make a big difference. I bought a 2x12 vertical slant cab from Lopo and the speakers I have loaded in are from Warehouse Guitar Speakers (Reaper & Retro 30, both 16 ohms for an 8 ohm cabinet). Granted, the amp will not keep up with a 100w amp but cranked up, you should be able to jam with a drummer with no problems. A 4x12 cab would make for a bigger sound.

  • how do you get such good harmonics ? i have a ht 5 head with the two 110 cabs and using a gibson lespaul custom, and i just cannot get harmonics like you can

  • I have pretty high output pickups, that could be one factor. What pickups your les paul has?

  • I think they are Gibson 490R in the neck and 498T in the bridge.

  • i dont know if i should get this or the tiny terror combo

  • I'd say this one. Why? because even though i love the beautiful sound orange amps can create, this one is superior in many ways. 2 Channels, 3 band EQ, ISF for extra EQ possibilities, FX Loop, etc. If you love the orange tone, get orange, otherwise get this baby and live happily for the rest of your life :)

  • For 5 watts, those amps are pretty loud. I just got the head version and a separate 2x12 cabinet. Worth every penny! The effects loop works great too. Just don't put any gain devices in the loop. Only put in things like: chorus, phaser, flanger, pitch shifter, delay, and reverb.

  • i dimed it in guitar center and it wasn't very loud to me and i was sitting right next to it!

  • @sgmguitar Why not gain devices? I'd like to use the effects loop on this amp to connect preamps like an ADA MP-1 or even certain distortion pedals like the DIY Dr. Boogie.

  • sounds sick man. You can get some sick harmonics with that

  • The riff at 1:22 sounds like Junkhead

  • Sounds brutal. What guitar pickups?

    sorry my english

  • Tesla Plasma series

  • how does the clean sound on this amp is it pretty good?

  • it does sound nice in clean but there's no reverb and it doesn't have a whole lot of headroom

  • True.

  • it isn't a clean sound amp..but it's good for hard rock and beyond!

  • im kind of a noob at looking for a good amp since ive only been playing for over a year and a half, that amp sounds FUCKING AWESOME!!

  • i have this amp as a mini stack and its amazing!

  • I want this amp.

I think it'd be perfect for what I want. It seems really versatile, it's low wattage (home use, practicing)...

Not to mention the price. :D

  • i love how it sounds at 4:10 thats exactly what im looking for

  • Great demo, the sound is awesome!

Could you tell me what gear you use for the recording?

  • Well, I'm using a dynamic microphone into a mixer -> soundcard -> computer, and for video, just a cheapo webcam.

  • Thank you! Could you tell me about the microphone (it doesn't seem to be a Shure SM57), the mixer and the souncard?

I'm looking for a good way the record myself ;-)

  • The mic is a very cheap one, Wharfedale. Mixer is Mackie and soundcard is M-audio firewire solo. The mixer isn't necessary for the recording, it just happens to be there in between.

  • Thanks a lot, dude!

  • I have a couple of questions about this amp. I'm almost certainly going to get it, but I want to know what to expect :)

    1) How well does it handle a light-distortion, punk-rock sort of sound?

    2) What sort of variation on the cleans is there? A wide variety or just a few different sounds to choose from?

    3) How well does it handle ultra-distorted heavy metal?

Thanks to anyone who answers :)

  • I think it shines when it comes to basic rock sounds. Cleans (without e.g. treble booster) are nothing to write home about, but they are not bad either. I would say the clean channel is a one trick pony, so you need pedals or something if you want radically different sounds from it. If you want to do ultra- distorted metal, you are going to need a booster in front of the amp, e.g. SD-1 works pretty well. I have a video where I play 7 string thru Blackstar, check it out.

  • How loud does this amp get? This amp is amazing but i dont know if it can keep up with a drummer, or do a small gig

  • It is pretty loud, so if your drummer knows how to play not-so-loud, you should be ok. Small gig? Miced, yes. Without micing + PA, hardly.

  • Wow Great sound, amazing drive channel and great playing, excellent demo of this amp, I think I will buy it for my Gibson LP :-)

  • Good to hear. My favourite settings are pretty simple, everything else at 12 o'clock, except ISF in 3pm. That's it. :)

  • what were your settings for 3:18

  • Sorry, it's been a while so I don't remember the settings.

  • It is pretty quiet for me, but I don't play often with gain cranked. Have you tried moving away from the amp? If I use lots of gain and stand next to the amp it hisses like all amps do.

  • @coopdawg68 Check out my other vids, there's more Blackstar stuff.

  • Cool amp, but the guitar interests me more. :) Which pickups are you using there?

  • They're Tesla Plasma series.

  • Stupid question maybe, is this amp all valve/tube?? Thanks I need to know, people saying otherwise

  • Wy did you reply to me saying "is it tube or not", and then post the same question? I can tell you for a fact it has some solid state parts, I'm just not sure where.

Either way its a great amp; wether it's all tube or not is just a technical consideration.

  • all tube baby

  • when u were running through the extension cab did u have the internal speaker on too? is that possible?

  • @asianaxeman I didn't have it on. It is possible to have it on if the Ohm's match up with the internal speaker.

  • Sounds great , even on youtube! Really nice amp and a great guitar.

I hope i'll be lucky enough to own one soon.

    Thanx for the review!

  • I really like that green guitar.

  • Shut up!

  • If you wanted to can you replace the valves with anything more powerful?

  • As far as I know, no.

  • what song is that at 2:16

  • Just some random riffs.

  • ah, it sounds very familiar. ive heard it somewhere but i cant remember

  • Teach me finnish , please!

  • i want this amp!

Is this loud for a 5 watt?

  • Now is the time on Sprockets vhen ve dance!

  • ROFL! Exactly what I thought, Bruno!

  • Seems it has two preamp tubes and no power amp tubes....

    Can someone explain this?

  • @ubustang it has a pre and a power tube lol, otherwise it wouldent work

  • I can't get over how good it sounds.

  • Hi, great amp but can it give us a blues tone thanks !

  • I don't know much about blues tones, but I think it has great low/medium gain tones too. Cleans could be better.

  • Great demo. You make the amp sing.

  • Ja onhan toi täysputki?

  • :D

Jos kuulostaa hyvältä, onko sillä väliä?!?

Etuasteessa on kai transistoritekniikkaa gainin lisäämiseksi. Laatuvehkeeltä vaikuttaa, keikkaillu en ole, joten siitä en osaa sanoa. G'n'R pitäisi taittua aika mallikkaasti.

  • Vitsi toi kuulostaa hyvältä. Onko toi oikeasti laatuvehje? :) Ite enimmiksee Gunnareita ja Rage Against The Machinea soittelen...

  • it is hybrid combo

  • Is this thing valve or solid state?

  • Its all valve!

  • Apparently not, i asked a guy in the shop and he said its got valves in the preamp and power amp stage but there's tranny stuff in there too...

So it's neither all valve nor hybrid... I'd say it leans towards the all valve side though.

  • technically its not got a true all valve signal path but not many newer "valve" amps have - most modern ones have a few fancy electronic bits - just look at the JVM - digital reverb etc... but I would not consider this to be a hybrid like the valvestate or valvetronic
