  • I don't mind fast players... and don't get me wrong rusty cooley is a badass at playing fast.. but he looks so tense when he's playing.. I respect a guitarist that makes it look easier than if they look like thier taking a crap.

  • very fast! but guys who play fast like this..slow down let us get the feel of the notes. fast doesn't really mean better..!

  • I probably should be in awe of his speed but I just love his vibratos

  • wut guitar is that?

  • looks like a Conklin 8-string to me. Check em out, they make some sick stuff.

  • cool effects. he plays that stuff so effprtlessly. wow

  • shred and music are two different things

  • who cares about speed its about composition i think Rusty has great shred composistion like he can make great shred solos for his band outworld i mean the guy is fucking amazing on all aspects of neo-classical shred and metal shred i think hes one of the best out there i dont much care about speed more or less prisision and transistions iv been playing guitar for almost 9 years now and this guy has been a huge inspiration to me

  • People theres a difference between being fast and being fast with complicated finger patterns.

in terms of speed and technicality the best are petrucci

    cooley

    Macalpine

    Loomis

  • Nah. Petrucci's top speeds are generally about 14 nps. If you want speed and technicality no one beats Shawn Lane.

  • @eveningninja yeah shawn lane was a freak of nature.

  • This is a guy who just doesn't get it.

  • you arnt the one who gets it....

  • There's a lot of talent here.... but its wasted on "shredding". There is just not much interesting in playing everything at one speed. The start of the tune was cool when he was playing a melody. Then it went downhill with the fast shit. He even made an exasperated face before he went into the riff.... "Oh look at how hard it is to play this fast". Its not hard for him. The most difficult part for him is flicking his hair at the right moment for effect.

  • That main riff sounds like a blatant rip-off of Dream Theater's song about Stem Cell Research - cant remember the title, damn it! From the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence album...

  • The Great Debate

  • who is more faster?MAB ,Rusty or Tiago della vega?

  • And Della Vega is easily the fastest - check that guy's fingers... Plus, itz documented!

  • What a duper douche. Oh, and by the way designer misfits shirts are gay, but then again so is this musical equivalent to Perry Town Hones.

  • rustys 8 string is tuned Bb EB Ab Db Gb Bb Eb Ab low to high the eighth string is the high Ab

  • 0:33 he's like "okay... i hope i don't kill too many people with this next run..."

  • what a hell, Armageddon... lol

  • dammit... i really hope an 8 string guitar isn't required to play this song...

  • If you want to play the rhythm and solo parts both, I think it is. If you only want to play the solo, try tuning your 6 string up like, a fourth.

  • is rusty wearing a misfits shirt?

  • how can he play that and wear a misfits t?

  • he can do whatever he wants... wtf dude

  • simply pointing out the irony dude

  • ow yea, like there is any..

  • well i thought it wierd as he is clearly a fan of the mifsfits - a band very much in the punky shock rock vein - and yet this music is coming out. the only vaguely similar example i can think of would be slash from GnR, and they have a much punkier edge than this. you're perfectly within your rights to disagree with me mate, but grammar would be appreciated.

  • lets talk in my language then, shall we...

  • suits me.

  • tzal wel zen mongool

  • i think i got the word mongol there, and thats it :P

  • i said, yea right, mongol... anyway this is kinda silly xD lets stop this 'fight' and turn it into sth more positive =)

  • lol, well played. anyways, what i meant to say was "this is cool, i find it unusual that he counts the misfits as an influence"

  • ye i know man, but sometimes, i just like to be 'the' asshole, srr.

  • am i drunk or are those frets really inclined?

  • Nope, they are slanted, and they are that way not for looks, but, for more physical aspects. The range of Low B flat to high A flat requires the fanned frets, because at normal tension on all strings, the high A would break constantly :)

  • yeah, I bought "Rising Force" as well, over 20 years ago.could we get any more derivitive.

  • Nice guitar :D lol

  • if you look at that guitar when your high, it looks like the whole neck is curved:)

  • Maybe if you've never smoked before lol.

  • Hey guys, did you know that 99.9% of the people who write comments like "Too fast, sounds like shit", "Shred isn't music", "Do you really need to play that fast?", "Speed sucks", Etc. Are desperate fighting against metronome to get really fast with no success.

  • I guess I occupy the 0.1% minority, in that case. I appreciate fast stuff, and Rusty does at least have good phrasing, but so much of it seems a substitute for actual composition.

Hopefully you'll be able to realise that this is just my opinion. My days of metronome fighting are over, I've found my niche and I fill it to capacity.

  • Smartest comment that I've ever read in a shred video, ppl who say stuff like that can't play fast, they think that play with feeling is just playing slow pentatonic stuff , but the flight of the bumble bee is awesome and it's fast how about that? feeling is what u want to play, it's what u want to say , it doesn't matter if it's fast or slow just play whatever u want

  • Youre totally right, but some people ALWAYS play fast, and you cant deny that those people always want to express the same thing, in the same way...

I love Steve Vai's music you know, sometimes its just shameless shreddin, sometimes its just calm & even a bit spiritual-like.

Listen to songs like Im Your Secrets, and Under it All. It's good stuff!

(BUT, I do love speed a lot, just not all the time, you got the message)

    greetz

  • @juankavamo89 or they have slow brains.

  • Wow look at the frets! They are slanted at the low end of the neck, and straighten towards the base of the neck. I've never seen anything like that. I am guessing it provides for optimal stretching for those outside note sounds he sometimes does.

  • Its called fanned frets, and what it does is that it makes the string tension the same on all the strings.

Rusty tunes the conklin 8 string from B to a high A, and that wouldnt be possible with straight frets since the string tension would be massive.. Unless ofcourse youre using like.. 0.6 custom ordered strings, but then you would have trouble with the intonation so..

  • The Never is the first outworld song that i learned.. even though i learned it wrong since i only have a 7 string haha. had to octave the high a.

  • thats right

  • The Never, Frigin awesome.
