@itztheJL The simplest explanation is that it is a fluid with zero viscosity and infinte heat capacity. Those concepts are kinda hard to wrap your head around unless you see them in action, superfluid liquids will "climb" the walls of a container, seemingly in defiance of gravity, for example. The wikipedia acrticle on superfluids is a good staring point.
1:37 Lambda -271°C. The beginning of the second world. Something that normally is not possible but nevertheless fact. Helium got superfluid. It drips by passing the transitions at the bottom and it would work if they would be even smaller.
-272,5°C nearly the absolute zero point. And it´s dripping even faster. It overcomes the gravity. So the superfluid cries, helium 2, by flowing over the cup edge and dripping down. It cries, it cries as itself does not know which purpose it might have.
0:58 Now it starts changing its gaseous physical state into the liquid state. It´s getting near…from this point at -271°C begins the second world of helium. A paradoxical world.
This beaker has a ceramic floor and thousands of capillary transitions, too small for human eyes. There´s no overflowing or dripping as the content is influenced by gravity.
translation>>....helium, a very light gas without any taste or smell that gets liquid at a temperature of under -268 °C.
But it does not like to be alone. There need to be filled nitrogen into a second container. Also with a similar low temperature of -195°C.
After that helium shows it´s double life. This is it´s first state, the warmer although it´s still enormous cold. The freezing nitrogen causes less bubbles. The warm areas in the container begin to disappear. The Helium becomes colder.
@renxula even if this will be in your language then you will not understand it. sorry some things are for more inteligent peoples. If you want be inteligent then learn languages which you do not understand and you will love them instead hate.
@zakke0909 Of course, if you want to seriously hurt yourself, you can drink it. You C A N drink anything that's liquid. The remaining question is the kind of damage done by drinking it, you fool.-
@Phatcass No mean to offend you. (I havent any idea if the video said anything about an afterlife or not cause I don't speak that language, whatever it is.) But your comment has nothing to do with the current topic of the discussion.
@patrick61503 : This is a super-fluid, which means that it has no friction. This means the fluid is able to go up the sides of the container and "drip" down the sides. Helium turns into a super-fluid at extremely low temperatures, as it reaches complete superfluid state, it actually looks like it flows between the atoms of the glass itself at the end of the video.
@akaCharlieG : *blinks* it's glass, and when helium (which is the SMALLEST atom in the universe -- hydrogen is smaller but automatically combines with another hydrogen so making it never standalone while helium is smaller by degree in that facet)....and at the smallest temperature, it rids itself of the electrons, which make it easily slide right between the atom space of the glass/ceramic/whatever.
@amberelix1 this video is about cooled helium, which can be liquid at this temperature, the cool thing is that the viscosity of the "liquid" becomes very close to zero, so it will climb up the walls of the glass and drip off the bottom. :D
Lets turn to the science of homophobia....oh and by the sounds of it loneliness...hope you have a long superfluid life Chris ....but just do not take it all too seriously, as the great man said...for every action there is...an equal and opposite one. Goodbye my fellow 6 eyes monkey tailed papal hat wearing Taxi driver awaits. Toot toot x
@ChrisSheaffe: You seem to confuse homophobia (fear of gay people) and antropophobia (fear of people in the strict sense). It may be confusing though because of the homo- prefix.
Anyways, I've never thought such topic to be broached in a video of strictly scientific nature. It's a little bit too... much.
Depending on the amount of the super-fluid you imbibed, it could easily cause severe freezing damage to your body. This is much like drinking liquid gas.
-how much energy does it take to lower that temp down to >2.17K- what container could this occur in
-if a funnel was put in there along with a small light source to create the whole frictionless fountain when would energy have to be reintroduced (b/c i'm guessing even though some places say infinite frictionless fountain (never stops) that the light would caused heat to be reintroduced and eventually boiling would return
-what happens when you tip over the bottle (same as h2o?)
You wouldn't understand it as well if you would speak German. It was the first video about superfluid helium on YT. Search, there are some in English as well.
