Old trick. The steam in the can when you put it into cold water condences. Upside down is the water the air can not enter the can. As the steam condences the air inside the can is under less pressure then the air outside the can. So it crushes the can.
I said almost... they plane had to do an emergency landing after flying very low, almost on the water (from what he said). He's okay, but being a vacation, he didn't want to have learned something. I don't know if there is any treatment. If any, it would have to be similar to this experiment or a hot glass being filled with cold water. The molecules which are rapid are forced together, if they aren't aligned perfectly, it makes cracks. He would need transplants I guess.
It's MORE fun to not put water in the can. There is very little aluminum in cans (they make the walls so thin) and since aluminum has a very low melting point, the can would seem to disappear! Yes, it would leave a small mess on the burner... I had a friend show me this OUTSIDE in a bonfire. Put the can in the super hot embers and in a couple of minutes... WHOOF, it's gone! Very cool, especially went everyone has been drinking heavily... :)
While thats true, the reason this is so dramatic is that there's only water vapor in the can, and when it condenses to water it becomes much smaller than if it was simply hot water.
WOW... now make it turn back to it's original shape :/

There was a person I met at the airport. He went swimming before boarding his plane. I tried to stop him, but he went anyway.
It was the biggest mistake of his life....
furyberserk 1 year ago
@furyberserk wat happened to him then?
LittleChickBarbara 1 year ago
@LittleChickBarbara
It is similar to this. Because of the water's pressure and the sky pressure, I guess you could "Guess what happens next :D"
Water pushes against gravity. High altitudes generate low pressure. Gravity almost crushed him. Literally his body.
furyberserk 1 year ago
@furyberserk was he given any medical care then? i mean can urgent medical treatment help him?
