  • so this is just pavement right?

  • anybody else thinks the guy from death cab sounds a lot like this guy?

  • @matthewjamal not really but i can see what youre getting at, its the same musical style

  • is this the original recording????

i've only heard the ben folds five version

  • This song brings tears to my eyes.

  • Out of shitty Twin Falls, Idaho, into slightly less shitty Boise, Idaho. (I'm from Ontario, OR)

  • i accidentally clicked on this while trying to get to a song by the getup kids. this is awesome

  • @chelsealogicxx Were you listening to sunny day real estate? I'm pretty sure we both did the exact same thing. Built to Spill>Get Up Kids, imo

  • @tdog52436 i was actually! yeah i have to agree with you on that.

  • Dude, this is awesome. It sounds a lot like Pavement.

  • Question, I didn't find it in the comments before.

    What is this video from?

But anyway, I love this song. This video fits somehow.

  • is this song about him leaving his girlfriend and the city he grew up in then later finding out she had his kids or something?

  • it makes me want to hit the wall

  • I don't get everyone's problem with Twin Falls, ID.... Ely, NV is by far much worse.

  • Love this song, i went to that school too. Twin Falls was awesome! I loved it.

  • Can anybody tell me what song followed this on the album???I remember wither this song being longer than this or the song afterwards jamming 4 ever it's what turned me on to built to spill in the first place

  • @2311weedtoakerz The song after Twin Falls is called "Some" it is almost 6 mins long and they usually blend it with the end of Twin Falls....This is all on the album-Theres nothing wrong with love. BTS rocks!!

  • @2311weedtoakerz it was followed by "Some". it transitioned into it nicely, thats probly why you thought it was one song

  • @2311weedtoakerz it was followed by "Some". it transitioned into it nicely, thats probly why you thought it was one song

  • after this song im going to listen to TAD: Jack Pepsi. I love Idaho!

  • I just moved here from Long Beach, California and I was wondering what do you do for fun here?

  • @DeWiz001 same as cali...... smoke ganjah!

  • @DeWiz001 xbox live, fuck around, etc.... all you gotta do is make friends and chill with them. hope this helped.

  • @DeWiz001 WHY DID YOU MOVE TO TWIN haha im moving to twin this month from boise haha

  • "My Mom's good, she got me out of Twin Falls, Idaho"

A-fukken-men! Best decision of my life was to move from Twin Falls to Indianapolis to go to college (not that indy is much better). Twin Falls is a depressing trap of a town.

  • one of the best songs of this era period

  • dude i actually know a girl who has a house there. this song has a whole different meaning to me now

  • Always thought this song was sad, but this fucking video is something else.

  • why cant this song be fucking longer :I

  • @mahcatiscool i love this song, even though i personally have some issues regarding a girl, and it only makes me sadder, i completely agree with you

  • Built to spill is interesting. I heard about them from Questionable Content, along with Broken Social Scene, Pavement, and Sonic Youth.

  • I bet you hipsters wouldn't like this band if it was famous, damn pussies

  • @HitaroX- You wouldn't be writing on here if you weren't such a pussy. Do you get off by calling everyone who listens to music that isn't mainstream a "hiptser"? I'm 24 years old and work for a capital management firm and wouldn't consider myself a "hipster." Generalizing is for insecure pussies who lost their identity when they quit sucking their moms tit. Go find a hobby.

  • @xanderschwab umad bro?

  • @HitaroX- Na, just needed to put you in your place. What music do you listen to? I bet I can pull some label out of my ass to help you find your identity because labeling based off of music preference makes a lot of sense. Doesn't it?

  • @xanderschwab u sound mad bro

  • @HitaroX--lol. happy trolling..

  • Born In Twin Falls ah. Now in Boise.

  • to all the people who made it out of twin falls: good job. you win.

  • My boyfriend showed me this song. I'm glad he did! :)

  • Woah, I used to live in Twin Falls... never knew there was a good song kind of about it, lol... nice.

  • Loved the animation, but it fells like there's more...

Anyone knows if its from a cartoon or something like this, or it was just made for the clip?

    Thanks!

  • i live in twin falls lol.....

  • I live in Twin Falls, and my dad teaches 4th grade at Harrison Elementary. Story of my POS life.

  • @longboardhonch woah, I went to that school. small world lol

  • This is in my top 5 favorite albums. It's so catchy and uplifting.

  • Man, I was born in Twin Falls and remember heads up 7 up and the parachute game.

  • its like a mixture of death cab and dinosaur jr....yay.

  • @fazelife i definately thought of dinosaur jr too when i first heard them, which was yesterday

  • god this brings back so many memories, wow

  • just dicovered this band they are pretty good

  • i like this song

  • harrison elemantry was the elemtary school i went to...

this song makes me think of my hometown in a really dark way

  • Great band.

  • That animation is from the READING RAINBOW episode "Louis the Fish".

  • i remember playing 7-up in elementary school.

    effing loved that game.

  • The 90's never went away. You know I'll bet the last line is a little bit of a lie. It does bother him.

  • @FFGG22E

    WOW REALLY?

YOU SHOULD BE A LYRICAL ANAYLST OR SOME SHIT

    FUCKING GENIUS MAN!!!! A++++++++++++++++++

  • @Onepretentiousdude suck a dick.

  • Sometimes I wish I was born In the early 90's so good music like this was played on the radios. Not the artist that don't deserve it. I was born 1998 and I wont listen to music thats not older than me. Music sucks now.

  • @ericcroft22 I have bad news for you: this song was NEVER on the radio, unless you called up a college station and requested it.

  • @ericcroft22 ahhh 1998, my final year of high school. Good memories :)

  • @leisurelydinner Glad I could bring back such memories.

  • @ericcroft22 You are awesome for listening to built to spill at your age, but yeah, this never played on the radio.

  • Reminds me of elementary school :)

  • This is only a part of a song, they normally lead into "Some" after this. You guys didn't really think this was it? Check it Twin falls/Some

  • @Jack1685 Yeah. Wow, this whole track is a bit anticlimactic without those caustic first chords of "Some" crashing through the speakers a beat later, huh?

"...But a lot of people think he's FINE!"

Still, this is a great effing (half a) song.

  • @DoctorPeteVenkman

    Yeh man.

  • damn I've listened to this like 20 times in a row

  • these guys were fucking awesome last night

  • I used to spend my christmas's in Twin Falls Idaho. and i've never heard of this song before. what gives?

  • @merlinfromberlin37 You lack common knowledge of amazing music? hahaha

  • @andr123w hey now. i lack not common knowledge, i just haven't stumbled on it before.

  • @andr123w

  • I feel so special :) I live here!!!

  • i love built to spill <3... but i wish the songs were longerr

  • This video and song are great. Reminds of walking home on fall days with my neighbor. She was pretty.

  • i've realized i love short songs

  • I wished this song was longer!

  • love this band

  • This song reminds me of my child hood

  • Reminds me of my first day of school.

  • Kicks Ass. I was just near Twin Falls.. Thought about this song

  • i love this song, i could listen to it all day... awesome!

  • I lived in Twin Lakes Idaho untill today when after a strange string of coinsidences (excuse the spelling) led me to this song. My mom got my dad to pay for my out of state college and hopefully my best friends babies mamma will put her kid up for adoption so we both can get out of here. Shes only 17!

  • Its not that there's anything specifically wrong with twin falls, it's just the kind of place that if you ever want to accomplish anything in your life, you need to leave... Idaho in general is a great place to live but if you are an ambitious kid and want to live the most out of life, you need to get the hell out of Idaho

  • @dinarchus Doug Martsch still lives in Idaho. He just lives in Boise now.

  • @dinarchus I would have to disagree with that.

  • DIS IS AWESOME!

  • I love this song, but I wonder why he seems to despise Twin Falls, or at least why he's convinced he did a good thing by leaving. How's the situation there?

  • @DefectiveQueen It's windy, cold and dry during the winter, and hot and still windy and dry during the summer. And there isn't a lot to do here, and that's now, I can only imagine 15 yrs ago?

  • @DefectiveQueen

Lol drive through it once, you'll understand.

  • great song especialy for those of us fotunate enough to be midwesterners

  • so this is my first time listening to this song & i keep zoning out listening to it.... it's insane. iloveit. :DD

  • my moms good she got me out of twin falls idaho

  • built to spill makes me feel special living in idaho. talkin about Twin Falls and Albertson's.

  • Lived in Twin Falls for awhile. It's not that bad. Of course I later lived in Missouri and that put things in perspective.

  • I live near Twin Falls (Twin) as we call it here in Idaho... and yes, his mom was smart to get him the hell away from there.

  • reminds me of the get up kids

  • never heard this band before, this song is quite nice

  • Hmm, I am from North Idaho, I don't know where you've been man. But the compounds in Coeur D'Alane were shut down 10 or so years ago. I haven't seen a Neo Nazi/ National Socialist in years.

  • were theese guys before modest mouse?

  • @prometheusjohnson yeah, a pretty big influence on their sound. Although Modest Mouse is still excellent.

  • born in idaho falls, spent my infancy and childhood near twin falls, grew up the rest of my life in california. i still visit idaho pretty often to see my folks, and it does my heart to know that besides the neo-nazi compounds up in the north, there is one shining light that burns oh bright through all the bullshit...and that light is built to spill

  • :'(

  • que malo por dios

  • such a sweet melancholy song, makes me think of a cloudy suburb.

  • Good song, but what is with the music video? I didn't expect it to be like this.

  • is this animation from sesame street?

  • holy shit this is amazing. these lyrics are so great.

  • Love this, completely takes me back to 1st grade. We played with a parachute in the gym and also played 7-UP. I always cheated by having my head over the side of my desk so I could see the shoes. I thought I was so smooth - but it must have been totally obvious to at least my teacher. Do kids get to do these things today?

Another song I really like that makes me feel the same is Marcy Playground's, "Sherry Frazier." I wonder what happened to those girls I had crushes on.

  • @INTP2112 Man, I miss 7-up so much...

  • @INTP2112

    haha, "heads up, 7-up!"

  • beautiful.

god its so simple, but uhh.

such good memories attached to this.

  • @guaranna, you are dead on.

It conveys so much genuine humanity in the span of less than two minutes.

  • @Terfster

Yeah, it is a simple, subtle, sweet, and sad song.

  • one of the greatest songs ever written

captures the depressing nostalgia of midwest/northwest u.s.a

  • @guarrana Idaho is NOT IN THE MIDWEST! In fact you got in a car in Twin Falls Idaho and drove straight east, you would not enter the midwest until you had driven for 13 hours. Idaho IS in the: Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, Inter-Mountain West, Northwest... New York City is closer to the South than Twin Falls is to the Midwest

  • @dinarchus this is late but if you check my comment properly, you will see that i said the "midwest/NORTHWEST"

  • @guarrana life can be depressing

  • @guarrana ok i disagree with you only because i dont think its depressing here at all. it really is beautiful country here in the northwest/midwest.

  • cool song

  • love this band - been listening to them 4EVER - inspiring and influences the music i record at home ----->i post check my channel out

  • if you guys like built to spill then you'll love the halo benders, dougs other band.....i have some posted on my channel with more coming soon!

  • why would a girl be without shoes under a parachute? what's the back story to this song?

  • @HitaroX did you not go to elementary school?

  • I'm 15, I guess I'm just not old enough to see it in that perspective...explain?

  • Ben Folds did a spot-on cover.

  • Anyone know where the animation is from? Just curious. Love Built to Spill.

  • epic band.

  • yay idaho... most people have forgotten that it's still a state i think. It's home for me though. Idaho Falls though not Twin. Awesome song. I've always loved this band.

  • WHOA! I live in Jackpot, NV which is like 50 miles south of Twin Falls and I go there almost every week, I was there today!

  • i miss the 90's....

  • twin falls is surrounded by poopy smelling CAFOs

  • Long Live the Beautiful 90's

  • great song from a great album. think i just shed a tear for the 90s...

  • i live in twin right now! good song yo.

  • Lived in twin falls for a few years. Can't believe I never heard of this band untill resently on pandora.. Glad I got out of there before I got old. But wow so many memories

  • they play random unannounced shows in Boise all the time. they still got love. they just played at the Hyde Park Street Fair.

  • Grwta damn Song!

  • Idaho represent

  • Representin that 208 son! haha

  • Although I didn't listen to it as a kid, it still reminds me of middle school.

    I miss 7up

  • This song is great.

It reminds me of Hackensack by Fountains of Wayne, which is another personal favorite.

  • I went to Harrison Elementary when we moved to Twin Falls...

  • Is this the official music video? Cause... it doesn't make much sense... lol

Love the song and the band. :D

  • That's from reading rainbow! Cool song.

  • I was born in Twin Falls ha, shitty place. never lived there though. But trust me iv visited and it sucks, i live in Boise, wayy better haha :) they should come to the knitting factory or the venue

  • @cassoandchristyo They play in Boise all the time. They don't promote themselves a ton, because they have a HUGE faithful following. Somehow loads of people always find out about their shows and attend.

  • saw Built to Spill last night live at the hyde park street fair. when we were moshing, in between songs, the guitarist goes,"Yeah, pushing each other for fun. You're supposed to go up and down, and push a little."

    a great night.

  • I lived in Twin Falls, and I didn't like it one bit.

  • I lived in Twin Falls for a few years when I was a kid. Those were good times. I live in Australia now.

  • twin falls really sucks

  • you suck

  • you can think it's a poor comment, but i really don't like that place. and you might be some german taking offense because you think it's directed at your favorite band, or you might be from twin falls and not understand. i just think this song is sweet because ... my mom's good because she got me out of twin falls idaho before i got too old

  • @mesomorpho still sucks

  • @mesomorpho still sucks

  • @mesomorpho NOT EVERYTHING IS FAST PACED CONSUMERISM

  • still sucks

  • i love this song. it makes me sad though - and makes me long for the innocense and the raw emotion without intellect of childhood

  • Tooo crazy They;re too cool

  • someone comment the lyrics of the song please, I don´t understand english, l speak spanish

  • He sings about him growing up in the small suburban city Twin Falls in the state of Idaho. He grew up with a girl but they are not together now, yet he doesn't regret it. He looks back. Throughout the song he uses vivid images of his childhood. Games like 7-up and waving with a parachute in gymnastics.

If you don't understand my comment, then it is a good exersize to look the words up. :D

Please ask if you have further questions.

    It is a great song.

  • i don't think he regrets it, the lines that imply that seem sarcastic or intentionally make him sound like he's in denial

  • oops, meant to say he does regret it

  • @LogInAnders Twin Falls is not a suburb. It is in the middle of nowhere Idaho. It is the biggest town for 130 miles or so.

  • hey tessa your gay
