I took a look on my motherboard and I looked at the CLR CMOS pins and there wasn't a jumper on them. Do I need a jumper, and if i do, will that be the cause of my no post/no signal problem?
@shazyriver Well if you have a CPU that doesn't support on-board video, it won't work. The fans will turn on, but you won't have a display on your monitor. If you're using a Sandy Bridge processor, then you need a card, because it doesn't support on-board video. Let me know what you're using and if this is not the case, I'll still try to help out.
@shazyriver Sorry, I made a mistake on my last comment. The processor itself DOES support video, BUT if you have a P67 motherboard, you NEED a card. Sorry for any confusion.
@shazyriver Just double check all your cables are plugged in/ PSU switch is on. If not then maybe you have a bad CPU or RAM. :/ sorry if I couldn't help out.
one other thing no one seems to mention is if you have your vga or dvi or whatever your using for display in your motherboards slot and you have a graphics card installed the motherboards slot may not work seeing as some boards happen to do that im not sure why. mine did and the board is a M4A88T-V-EVO/USB3 so if you have that board and dont get display that may be th problem.
LOL, paper and metal can hold static charge, he puts the motherboard on cartoon and the ram on the PSU, even if the PSU is grounded you can't be really sure it has no static, very bad working conditions.
Linus plz help....I have a evga motherboard and I'm getting 18+ beebs on start up wich has progressed from about eight? Is it my ram cards what ima bit freaked cause this is a expensive custom built computer I don't want to mess my baby up?

Thank you so much!!! it was my 4 pin connector that wasnt plugged in!!!! it was plugged into the Main motherboard power but not into the little 4 pin connector!!! I love you!!!!!!!
lol this video is amazing cause i switched all my stuff from an old case to a new one and this problem happened to me...i think i broke the pci slot or my video card pins or both...
got a question im getting a msi p67s-c43 but i dont know were the case power button on the motherboard is someone help if they can i havent gotten my board yet or i would know by reading the mobo thingy thanks if anyone can help
me I just reset the cmos and it will boot directly to the bios and set may time and date of the motherboard and it fixed the problem. but occasionally the problems comes back again and do the same thing and it fixed again whahaha, i dont really know what is cause of this problem but when it did, I always use this steps. thats for me. hope to solve some of your problems.
wt's up? I have Acer AS M3100 Desktop with AMD Athlon 641x2 4400+ cpu and motherboard is F690GVM. when i shut down/ restart my computer, their is no post and just Fan running, but no beep sound i am trying to find the jumper near the Battery, but not finding 1. any help please...

Now that simple Simon has watched the video maybe he'll remember a little of the video to have an idea where to start or like John Q Public you can take it to the Geek Boys at BB and they can watch the video and fix your computer
@gentel916 All right.maybe thats the motherboard or RAM problem. try swap the motherboard and boot with 1 stick of RAM.BTW. the graphic card and the ram will bottleneck your entire system.
my roommate was moving his pc into a new case using still his old old psu, when he turned the switch on the thing blew up. swapped the psu and it still wouldnt boot. after about four hours the problem was tracked down to the hard drive! the hard drive had blown and was shorting the system. so just bear in mind its not always what you would think.
I put together a new computer using an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Motherboard. I have not installed Windows 7 as of yet. I purchased an ASUS LE247 LED Monitor. um about clearning " cmos" or reseting the bios' you gotta leave it on the other two jumping pins longer than one measley second. best to leave it on there for at least 20. count to 15 slowly. I have PROVEN this with more than 5 different motherboards, 5 different brands spanning the past 3 years. cheers
so did he test the motherboard then with just the -motherboard, ram, graphics card and a power supply, that was it, no hard drives?, just checking?, cause I got a new motherboard, ram and a graphic card I wanna check, I have power supply, so I can test my motherboard then?. Back in the AGP days, it wasn't at all uncommon for AGP cards to rock loose, due to the socket connector being placed almost in the exact middle of the card. I don't think I've ever had an AGP card work the first time I plugged it in.
Isn't there an electrical hazard using that method to start the motherboard (screwdriver)? I tensed up each time you did it, lol.
I'm trying to fix a friend's computer, which we believe to be his motherboard (and/or processor). I currently don't know how to troubleshoot a processor, but, what's happening is, he turns on his PC, the fans race, but no POST, no picture.
Thanks for these tips as I'll be able to rule out ram sticks and test for a beep code at least.
@TheZenoid Do you really thnk the motherboard would be able to pull that much power through itself to kill linus? No. Also comeon man the screwdriver obviously has a plastic handle.
I had this problem recently, first make sure the ram is seated properly then you'll need to find another mobo or compatable cpu unfortunately to test.
I have a pc that wont even power up at all. No lights no spinning fans nothing! I know or assume the psu still works because it will spin up the fans on another mobo. Any ideas?
@NCIXcom I have an acer travelmate 2414 nlci and I cant get it to power up. P.S The chargers light also blinks when I connect the jack into the power connector. Is there any way to fix this problem?
Is this a new virus? I see that almost every upload with this problem is from 2010. Mine is now also dead, no screen mouse keyboard signal. The rest works. Tried replacing RAM, PSU, GRAPHICS, BIOS BATTERy, also no beeps. and did jumper reset bios and still not working. I did see ( /watch?v=iHkGkw9EE8c ) can some one find a fix for desktops? the link is for an laptop. Thanks!
No post/no signal problems must be the 1 of the most annoying 1´s, since i have had it over 5 times (in like 2 years, ARGH!)
There should be a own shop for ´´no signal/no post`` problems since they can have many reasons and you wont waste extra €£$ on trying to find problem (i wasted over 300€ and still did not find da problem >(. )
But if some1 would make make that i bet many people would go there (or atleast i would)
On my first build i put the HSF on backwards causing no post, after 4 hours of freaking out i fanaly got it to work(AMD Phenom II X 4 945 HSF on MSI N750-G55 Mobo)
Thanks for the tip, i built a pc for the first time and when i turned it on there was no POST. but the fans connected to the board, the gpu fans and hdd were spinning. the hsf fan was not spinning though. also the dram led and boot device led were lighted ( asus q-led feature indicating a problem ). can you give me an advice? it will be highly appreciated, thank you.
@TheWoWRevelation If the settings in your BIOS are wrong or corrupt (e.g. Overclock failure) then clearing the CMOS will bring everything back to stock values which will make you post again.
Hey, I'm aware of the chances of someone replying to this are slim but its another thing im just gona try.
Ok So I'm having a problem with my PC. When everything is connected, the computer will power-up, then abount 5 seconds after that restart. I'm getting no beeps or anything from the system, it just immediately shuts down.
At first i though it was the ram, so when i removed the ram, the computer posts that there is no ram, however it remains powered up fully, anyone have an insight to this?
i recently changed the motherboard on my htpc and the new motherboard wont post. i have replaced it 2 times and still no post. i think it is just a driver issue with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, but any suggestions?
Here is a small improvement you can make to your video. Please mention the 110/220v setting switch that is on the back of most PSUs.
I just shipped some hardware (a web server PC) from UK to US and it wasn't booting, I had box open, swapped graphics cards etc.
I watched your vid and then remembered the 110/220v setting!
Although very few people will have this as the cause of a prob, some will and it will be very helpful to mention this. (It could even get moved by mistake).
what happen if my system turn off/shut itself down for a few second and reboot normally to window whenever I start the system for the first time... this only happen when I overclock my CPU.. I can run stress test without problem
m4a79t-Deluxe juste dont post because its random and crappy, Never gonna buy asus again... i sent it because the audio controller was defective, i they send me a crappy mobo with post problems..
Hi, Ok, i have o problem with a mobo GIGABYTE GA-7VA. I'd verified the CPU, Video Card and RAM on another mobo and they are ok. But when i put them on the GA-7VA mobo it dosen't post, it starts for about 4 seconds and after that it shutdown. I'd verified for short circuit or loose pin on the mobo and i found one capacitor with a loose pin (the + one) i soldered back and still nothing. What can i do more? Do you think the mobo is toast?
Sometimes the ram isn't dead, you just have to fiddle with the volt settings with one stick in and then add back the other one. Mobos can be pretty picky when it comes to that.
hi if the mother has video and dont post to put another video card in the pci express the bios reconize inmediatly or not because already do all you do and nothing
@TikiShootah lol, it's not a spare that's identical to the one you're using. Many of us who've built a system or at least upgraded a video card, have that old video card laying around somewhere. If not, honestly, it's never a bad idea to spend 30$ on a cheap video card to have laying around when things go wrong, which as any computer geek knows, they will. You're testing the slot of the mobo to see if the slot is bad. If the other vid card works, then most likely your current video card = dead.
@TikiShootah not that it would matter but most boards have onboard video. some don't though. in which case you wouldn't need a high end card, just something to slop in there for testing/ temp use. maybe even barrow a card from a friend. personally i hold on to cards i upgrade from just in case. something else, i wouldn't want to use a high dollar card for testing. who knows, it could fry something.
Very informative, one error that I had was setting the memory freq too high when I went out to go buy new ram. I had to find a stick at that freq to make it load even the BIOS so I could change it back. Like alot of people have already said, don't change crap if you aren't 100% sure what your doing in the BIOS! Great video by the way....
I took a look on my motherboard and I looked at the CLR CMOS pins and there wasn't a jumper on them. Do I need a jumper, and if i do, will that be the cause of my no post/no signal problem?

Isn't there an electrical hazard using that method to start the motherboard (screwdriver)? I tensed up each time you did it, lol.
I'm trying to fix a friend's computer, which we believe to be his motherboard (and/or processor). I currently don't know how to troubleshoot a processor, but, what's happening is, he turns on his PC, the fans race, but no POST, no picture.
Thanks for these tips as I'll be able to rule out ram sticks and test for a beep code at least.
TheZenoid 11 months ago
@TheZenoid Do you really thnk the motherboard would be able to pull that much power through itself to kill linus? No. Also comeon man the screwdriver obviously has a plastic handle.
I had this problem recently, first make sure the ram is seated properly then you'll need to find another mobo or compatable cpu unfortunately to test.

Thanks!

Linus, can a BIOS reset while the computer is on damage anything? Thanks
tazykills 1 year ago
Ok Linus, now take it a bit further. The GPU is faulty, how and what can be done to repair it?
If the Mainboard has failed, what can be done to repair it?
My PC didn't POST
I replaced my Mobo and now it works fine. But I still have a board that I would like to get going again.
Performed open bench, cleared BIOS/CMOS all other components work. It's just the mainboard thats faulty, it powers up but doesn't POST.
It's a Biostar TA780G M2+ used for just over a year at stock settings.
Thanks

No post/no signal problems must be the 1 of the most annoying 1´s, since i have had it over 5 times (in like 2 years, ARGH!)
There should be a own shop for ´´no signal/no post`` problems since they can have many reasons and you wont waste extra €£$ on trying to find problem (i wasted over 300€ and still did not find da problem >(. )
But if some1 would make make that i bet many people would go there (or atleast i would)

Hi
Here is a small improvement you can make to your video. Please mention the 110/220v setting switch that is on the back of most PSUs.
I just shipped some hardware (a web server PC) from UK to US and it wasn't booting, I had box open, swapped graphics cards etc.
I watched your vid and then remembered the 110/220v setting!
Although very few people will have this as the cause of a prob, some will and it will be very helpful to mention this. (It could even get moved by mistake).

Thank you.

Sometimes the ram isn't dead, you just have to fiddle with the volt settings with one stick in and then add back the other one. Mobos can be pretty picky when it comes to that.

@TikiShootah who sed it had to be a 400-500 one?
Trillios 11 months ago
@TikiShootah lol, it's not a spare that's identical to the one you're using. Many of us who've built a system or at least upgraded a video card, have that old video card laying around somewhere. If not, honestly, it's never a bad idea to spend 30$ on a cheap video card to have laying around when things go wrong, which as any computer geek knows, they will. You're testing the slot of the mobo to see if the slot is bad. If the other vid card works, then most likely your current video card = dead.
hiddindragon08 10 months ago
@TikiShootah not that it would matter but most boards have onboard video. some don't though. in which case you wouldn't need a high end card, just something to slop in there for testing/ temp use. maybe even barrow a card from a friend. personally i hold on to cards i upgrade from just in case. something else, i wouldn't want to use a high dollar card for testing. who knows, it could fry something.
blueovalfan23 9 months ago
@TikiShootah any cheapo WORKING card will work, you can buy your 500 dollar card afterwards as a replacement
Ptro001 7 months ago
@TikiShootah you dont need to test it with the exact card you can use a $30 card..
