  • Thank you for sharing these important stories.

What a cute dog you had. There was great acappella in the ending song.

  • I love listening to your stories. Over and over again i replay them and drift away into some sort of daydream. Your voice is so calming and lovely. Thank you, Grandad :) xx

  • I find your voice to be very, very calmig, it basically lulls me to sleep! :)

  • What a sad, but sweet story about your little dog!

  • I loved the story and the song. Texans love our dogs and our music for sure. Many thanks.

  • pretty damn good song--especially when you're in prison for years and years.

  • Just one Texan that loved your war story and the song at the end was very beautiful. Thanks.

  • Texans are awesome!

  • thanks, we dont get that allot ever since Bush happened, but he wasnt even born here.

  • Ah precious little puppy. Shame he must have been so traumatised. That is such a scary time, one that I'm sure is difficult to recall. Thanks for sharing history with us. Song made me sad for some reason? Very nice song.

  • Oh my gosh your dog was adorable! Thanks for sharing, Peter!

  • RIP Nan.

  • My Nan used to tell me these stories.

She sadly isn't here to tell me them anymore.

    R.I.P Nan.

  • Very moving story Peter, and you tell it so well.

  • wow cool story brings you closer to it hearing it first hand

  • This is real, that's why we love you Peter.

  • Nothing makes the terror more poignant and real than a young man's concern for the family dog. Poor little puppy just as "shit scared" as you. I'm so glad you found him alive!

  • they should not be moved on their way to heaven ... god bless all those who fell for their countries, whether british, american, german, french or any others who fell in that awfull time my heart goes out to you all

  • even the germans twistedknee? well thats a little off.i hope you arent including the nazis.

  • Brilliant!

  • My dog adopted our family, and she lived outdoors like that, but came home for the night. "like most family pets, he was a great little dog" to quote you :)

  • this is absolutely amazing :)

  • Great sentimental video Peter, I'm catching up with your videos again

  • shit scared, couldnt have worded it better meself

  • I love war stories...Nice work..

  • zzzzzzzzzz

  • this music reminds me of some of elvis presleys gospel songs i have

  • Love you Peter! Keep up the storys. :+)) I really like the music you put up too.

  • Thanks Peter.

  • I loved your story about you and your dog, it made me cry, i never really cry, but this has now a special place in my heart. I lost my dog about 6 years ago and i could never pick her up, and i wish i could once again, i thank you.

  • "fertilefcukface" you are a disrespectful ignoramous. five stars from me as usual

  • you are still great, and you're dog seems like a canny little fellow. the ending song was good too.. lovin it. thanks

  • Hi, Peter! Just got back from vacationing in my childhood home of Hawaii - glad to see there are some videos for me to catch up on! I loved the song at the end, btw. I'd like to hear about the religious experiences in your life if you have time. I'm curious how you feel about God and the like. Thanks! Love, Wendy

  • Thank you Peter! I've missed you terribly, my computer has been on the fritz!

Blowing you a kiss from Kentucky,

    Love, TraceyDanine

  • Brilliant episode,

the dog certainly seemed like somthing to sooth your heart with ? because you were both in the same predicament ?

  • That music at the end was really good

  • Hello Peter.

Thank you for sharing your lifestories with us youtubers, you have a special place in my heart.

  • Why have you stopped allowing videos responses?

  • Can i just say that you are my hero?

  • i watch each video, and you are wonderful, keep up the great work

  • Peter...i think you are more "clever" than you think. your description of you and your pup's transformation into veterans was priceless..please keep the stories coming

  • The dog and the singers in prison. Wow. You're good Peter. Very good. I feel like a just saw a good movie.

  • Saying shit may not be "becoming" but i guess if ya have bombs dropping around ya then it may be quite an accurate way of describing it..it can't be nice to say the least..

  • Dear Peter,

RESPECT for you, you're so great!

I'm proud of you, even though I don't know you..

    You're even famous is Belgium

    XXX

    Nina

    KEEP ON GOING!!

  • I disagree with brandy333, Peter. I don't swear myself, but I know people who use it only do so to accentuate a situation. For you, who doesn't swear a lot only seems to do so when describing war tales. I fully empathise and young people today can't imagine what WWII could have been like. Swear away, Sir.

  • Well I think it's very interesting, not everyone has to go through an experience like that and it's important to know. You are an amazing person and storyteller, you move me. I can tell all these experiences made you a terrific person and i thought you couldn't get any more perfect. I can't even imagine how terrifying that must have been. And your dog sounds so cute and he looked beautiful. Poor little thing. And I love the music, it's amazing.

  • First rate! Made me smile.

Where did you live when you were bombed? What was your dogs name?

  • apology accepted

  • pete. dont let people get to you. they do it just to look stupied. and they get injoy ment from it. y there are strange people all we all know out there. dont put wood on there fire and they will stop.

    love from las vegas

  • great as always! Lomax discovered LEADBELLY, who is one of my favorite blues musicians. also discovered in prison.

  • peter you are seriously " the man"...i love hearing all your stories. Don't let these people get to you...and for you assholes who keep talking shit...no one asked you to watch the videos so go else where and shut the fuck up. He is sharing a expierence from his life and if you dont care to listen to dont listen. Leave your insults elsewhere!

  • Thanks, Peter. Your videos are interesting - memoir, oral history and great 21st century archives.

  • no way

  • a word of advise "take heed of air raid sierens" and stop saying shit it doesn't become you peter

  • Yes Peter I really do concur. People of all ages view YouTube, including children. Maybe your own grandchildren do too?

  • I can only speculate that if you were trapped in an air raid shelter at the age of 14, every moment in fear of losing your life and of your family theirs, you too would learn the true meaning of the words 'shit scared' and climb down off your high horse.

  • You're an idiot. Try this...don't watch.

  • "not every person wants to hear someone bitch about their life story" <--- that makes my comment an opinion, so how am i an idiot for giving that opinion?

  • Because only an idiot would watch 21 videos before forming an opinion

  • well dont you feel stupid, ive seen the other videos and up to this point i thought id let it level out and decide what i thought of it when i had seen enough.

anyways what do i care what you think of me? between you and geriatric youve got a handful of years left.

  • Oh, smart, Mr. Reaper. You're a genius. Some people in this world actually do care about what he has to say. Some of us are more interested in other things, rather than ourselves, ya know? And here's a genuine idea! Wow, I have it! Get this, this is a great idea... If you don't like it, don't watch it! Isn't it such a smart idea? Wow, what a good idea! I'm so PROUD of myself!!! man oh man! Don't watch and reply to things you don't like. wow....

  • what are you trying to do? upset me?

if you are, you're not very good at it.

  • That's a beautiful story about your dog. That is a priceless picture of him, too. What was his name? Thank you, Sir Peter for sharing that with us....

  • What a wonderful story of courage and the bond between Animal and Man. Thank You Peter..

  • All Peter's videos are much better than average... but this one was a 10 out of 10 for me. Brought back memories of my dog 55 years ago, and the Texas prison music... incredible!

  • can anyone tell me the title/artist of the song played at the beginning of "Telling it All 18"?

    thank you

  • Listening to your story Peter, reminds me of watching "Masterpiece Theater's UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS". My generation has been blessed, only being brushed past the Viet Nam war. Loved the spirtual at the end!

  • Cant wait until your next video

  • Hello. I'm so glad to see so many people interested in the lives of older adults. I'm going to help a 106 year friend of mine record her first youtube posting tomorrow. What do you want to know?

  • Are you serious? Assuming you're not pranking, I think virtually anything someone that age would have to say would be fascinating. Can't imagine having lived the space of an entire century! What does she think is the best invention, and the worst? What government leaders did she admire/feel contempt for? On and on and on....

  • Hello Peter, my name is David & I'm a video editor. Your commentary is very insightful & well presented.

looking forward to your next post.

  • Thanks again, I really enjoyed that. It's always great to hear someone's firsthand account of something like this and I am honored to have actually heard it, from you, a survivor. That may sound mellow dramatic, but it's true, lol.

    Keep it up man.

  • it would probably be pretty easy to get a rise out of you, sylvesterevans, immature fool that you are

  • The music you choose always provides a wonderful conclusion or comment on what you have shared. "I shall not be moved" reminded me that in the face of wars that we had no part in starting, all we can do is refused to be moved from our goodness, like a tree standing strong at the edge of the river. Thank you.

  • the internet aint for you my friend ? if you don't like him dont watch his vids and fuck off

  • you really orta get a life instead of trying to ruine all of what this bloke has achieved, he is an inspiration and he's amazing, i sit up late at night watching his videos. and he has tought me alot over the past to do with life when he was a young lad but only mature people would appareciate that which obviously you arn't one of them

  • Go wack off to more lonelygirl13 you fucking 12 year old son of a bitch. Shut the fuck up because NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR FUCKING OPINION YOU LIL SHITFUCKER.

  • he swore! tut tut, young whippersnappers these days

  • beautiful once again!

  • powerful stuff

  • Thanks again, Peter. Looking forward to your next post!

  • Great story. Love the picture of the little dog. Thanks for telling us about your childhood.

  • Great video Peter, it's always a pleasure!

  • Great story, thank you Peter. You do a wonderful job, keep up the good work!

    Regards,

Jill in the US Virgin Islands

  • Thanks for sharing your stories. I know they are painful to recall. I think your stories will echo through the ages and provide a valuable warning about the horror of war. Thank you so much!

  • Thanks for sharin..

  • There is a very simple remedy to your dog issue, Peter-- there are several very sophisticated robot dogs out there-- and as far as I know, none of them leave little batteries or oil spots on the carpet. :)

  • Yet another great story, Thanks for the share!

  • Great video. Thanks Peter.

  • yetti you mean old pussy. if you don't like what you see go find something else to see young pussy. you'll be old someday too respect that

  • Amazing stories. You have a real gift. I can just feel the horror of it all. It is really important that you tell these stories. There is nothing new about war. Will we ever learn?

  • As always Peter, Love your stories! Thank you so much for sharing with us! :)

  • Wonderful video again.

  • WOW thanks for all you do Peter !!!

  • thank you for sharing!

  • you are a jerk

  • Thank You

  • Peter's muh nigga! and EmoKidsScott, Stevie Ray Vaughan is fucking awesome! I'm from Texas too! :-) (Houston though, not Austin)

  • Great video, Peter. By the way, since you're a blues fan, do you like Stevie Ray Vaughan?

  • Indeed! People can be so critical. Keep going Peter! We love you!

  • thank-you so much for sharing.

  • That's a great song, thank you for sharing it.

  • Thanks for this video. Harrowing, but fascinating.

    Cheers,

    Nathan

  • Im jealous because im only 23 yrs old, i dont have alot of stories to tell, its NOT FAIR!!!!

  • join the army, go to iraq, you'll have some then

  • Bravo, jimmers!

  • here in oregon we have a program that takes dogs into homes of people who otherwise aren't able to have one (for whatever reason, usually physical or emotional challenges). The dogs love the travel and meeting all the people and the people enjoy the company of some grand dogs. (for some reason, it doesn't work quite as well with cats :-)

Not sure if that would interest you, but thought I would mention it. Maybe there is a similar program where you live.

    nienna from oregon usa

  • Dear Peter - another great story - I never hit the "stop" button on your videos! Did your dog have a name? Can't wait for the next video

  • Thank you again Peter.

  • ilu

  • Peter, are you familiar with Burt Monroe, a New Zealander who spent years building a 1920 Indian motorcycle -- a bike which helped him set the land-speed world record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967? He was a very endearing soul just like you! Love listening to you!

  • I think you could be the voice of radio or a book on tape. Your talent for telling a story is matched by very few. Once again, incredible!

  • good video mate

  • Although this story was particularly interesting, the fact that you put music at the end extends the time to over 10 minutes. This lowers the quality of the video overall, and so should be avoided ^^

  • Most of us love the music and think it fits so well that it adds greatly to the quality of his videos.

  • Sorry, it appears I was misunderstood. I mean actual video quality rather than viewing pleasure. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to the music, but as far as I know the time limit is there for a reason. Just try looking at videos that last for 2 hours+, the quality is terrible.

  • Peter , That was wonderful , Thanks so much Diane

  • You have very interesting stories, thank you for sharing.

I've always admired the English for being so resiliant and dignified under such stressfull and horrible conditions.

  • Really interesting.... Thx for this story!

  • Best story yet. Loved the part about your dog. I am looking forward to the next video. All the best to you.

  • This one is my favourite story so far! Cute dog and great music too :)

  • I love listening to your memories and seeing your litle dog. And that song...Oh my...it gave me goosebumps. You are endearing. Thanks. Kathie aka stormy

  • Hello there Youtubers!

  • good to see him back, check out the blinking ballet video if anyone gets a chance, old people doing ballet ont he streets...pretty inspiring

  • boy mister, you sure have a lot to talk about!

  • Thank you for sharing your memories of the bombings and the memory of your dog. And thank you for sharing your dog's picture with us. Very touching.

  • Peter again thank you for sharing. By the way, do you a dog now?

  • Finding your video on YouTube is like finding a diamond in a pile of dung! Thanks for posting!

  • Awesome Peter thanks so much for the great story,I really enjoyed this one.

  • Very interesting Peter, my grandfather was an englishman although he immigrated to the united states in 1933. He had wonderful stories too!

  • You are what makes YouTube the cultural phenomenon it is.

    Keep it up.

  • I like your video series. It's very interesting.

  • This is just as beautifully told as all the rest. Thank you so much, again, for sharing your life stories. You are a wonderful person, i would love to sit in a room with you and hear you tell stories all day. I cant imagine the horror a 14 yr old had to go through during all that. *hugs* thanks so very much. xxx

  • Wonderful story about your dog... what a relief to hear you eventually found him.

  • oh yes, great blues singing as well. Thats a great set of recordings, the Lomax ones.

  • You're absolutely right; this is great singing. Sad though, how many choose to become devout in their faith AFTER incarceration. Technically, this type of Gospel music doesn't qualify as "blues".

  • But like you said, it's great to listen to. You should get the recordings of Dr. Harry Oster from Angola Prison (www.arhoolie.com), as well.

  • grandad! ow no your not how old are u a little young for you tube

  • Thank you, Peter, for another outstanding video. I close my eyes when you talk, and I feel you're in this room. God Bless. And thanks also for that wonderful audio at the end.

  • It was a pleasure for me to hear your story, sir. Thank you. I am 18 and I am happy that I live in the age of relative peace. Hope a lot of people will watch your video and think about the cruelty that affected you, my family and all the world.

  • "I am 18 and I am happy that I live in the age of relative peace." As Lex Luthor would say, WRONG!!!

  • Good comment, Matt. I wrote Peter a comment at the new website telling him that his stories AND his choice of music to go along with them are better than what a lot of professional people would select. It's time we gave Peter the respect and wisdom he so richly deserves from all of his fans. Good luck to you, from a music educator...

    Thom, MusicManInSouthCarolina

  • It was wonderful once again Peter. Please take it easy. I can see all of this is taking its toll on you. Take care Love. You have added another dimension to many peoples life. God Bless you

  • Absolutely first class, action ,tears, the lot.

  • very very moving ... goosebumps still. Many thanks to Peter for sharing this with us. Lest we forget what it is to be swept up in the vast collective fate of total war.

  • nice song. awsome dog! great man! keep em coming peter

  • Wonderful story - I'm wondering whether you took your dog down into the shelter with you after that! Must've been frightening as hell.

  • What an adorable dog! I love dogs!!!!

  • one of the best videos on myspace. thanks for telling the great story. you are the beginning of the meaningful video posters. keep posting!!!

    P.S. b-e-a-utiful dog =)

  • MySpace??? EEKS! Grab the pitchforks, torches and sticks, we're gonna mob you! :)

  • Thank you for sharing this with us,sir. I agree with the poster above who said that it is important for your story to be heard by my generation. Perhaps hearing from people such as yourself who have lived through war will give us the understanding to prevent other people having similar stories to yours in the future.

  • May i ask How can the Dog be Looking up at him from heaven? Dont you mean Looking Down..

  • Shit Scared Lawl XD

  • Hello Peter I believe your name is I just want to say what is your email i would love to talk to you and what is your skype username fell free to say no I'm new to your video however you are a interesting person and your war experienc must have been horrible however i do enjoy reading about it please tell me it would be greatly appreciated

  • Also, I believe your accounts of the war told on youtube have value for greater than any of us realize. Within the next few generations there will be no more people to tell 1st-hand stories of the war. It is great that you are able to to reach so many young people and let them know what the world went through for them to live the lives they are living today.

  • That was a very sweet story. Your dog, right now, is looking up at you from heaven, thanking you for being there for him during the scariest moment of his life.

  • That music at the end is quite haunting. Good video Peter.

  • you ended up in my newspaper a couple weeks ago - just thought i'd let you know

  • Hello from México City, the biggest city in the world. We aren't a war-country so stories of soldiers are too far from our common life. Anyways, I found your videos so interesting. You're like an open book sharing us all your experience.

  • Mexico City the 9th largest city according to wikipedia.

  • best video yet!

  • Very enjoyable and informative, thanks geriatric1927. Now I know where the soccer song/chant originated from.

  • Thanks for sharing your story. Was this kind of attack as much about harming morale as doing physical damage?

  • Once again..you make history and war a personal experience and not just a text lesson in school. Sixty plus years later children and their dogs are still being "shit scared".
