  • David cassidy played one

  • They are made in New Hartford CT which is about 45 minutes outside of Hartford.

  • how can i not like it??? umm...easily?

  • that is one of the ugliest guitar I have ever seen.

  • haha 1:27 with cc subtitles " it doesn't have any neck, wich is kinda nice'

  • I have no problem with the guy when it comes to facts. He knows what he's talking about. It's about facts and not on a demonstration. I am a happy owner of an Ovation Breadwinner Deacon with an original case. The problem I have with the case is that it cracks over time. The plastic, which consists of the case, does not hold over time. Perhaps one of the reasons why they are rare.

  • Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine!!!!!

  • The only good looking Ovation is the Ultra GP (Josh Homme's).

    Other ovation's guitars look awfull...

  • you look like a turtle with a helmet!

  • I have my fathers Ovation Breadwinner on my lap right now!

  • wats wrong with his right eye??

  • 1:28 "mmmmkay"

  • @mistermen440 lol macky

  • Read the Title Idiots!!! IT'S A REVIEW - NOT A DEMONSTRATION.....Duh!

  • @hunkabuggy a review includes a DEMONSTRATION... Duh!

  • well it is a review so he should talk about it retards

  • Looks like a liver shaped guitar.Lol

  • lol cumming lessons

  • Ovation Guitars Suck! Dont ever buy one! The acoustic's always crack!!!!!!!

Their customer support is crap! DO NOT BUY AN OVATION!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

  • @drlego69 did you use a guitar humidifier at all? because ALL acoustic guitars will crack if you dont.... could you explain the bad customer support a little more in depth? im thinking of buying

  • @drlego69 wrong you philistine

  • I dont speak english!!

  • Um, I live in Hartford, CT. I gotta go check them out.

  • Man I forgot I have one of these somewhere til fell over this vid. I haven't touched it in 20 years I bet. Its in the original case but its not as nice as as the one in this vid. its had a hard life. If I remember right its got the original pickups. The neck needs work or just replacing. I wonder if Ovation has parts.

  • ace frehley played that in like 73

  • OMG we didn't even hear it :/

  • I played one of these at a used guitar shop through an older marshall, with the preamp tubes volume turned up to get some drive. I turned down the tone on this guitar and got some REAL fuzzy tones. If you like very good and variated tonality, and being expiremental, like myself, get one. You probably wont regret it. They're a little pricey though.

  • lol..."cumming lessons..."

  • cool cool guitar, diggin the active pickups!

  • 24 frets

  • Somebody punched him in the eye for talking and not playing...

  • Do you have Tabs?

  • my bro has one!

  • good review! =)

  • whats wrong with your eye

  • He was in a bar fight the night before.

  • pretty cool? it's fucking awesome!

  • I want that fucking guitar. Sell it to me.

  • @MonstroMuggins HAHA your so demanding

  • @xXxM0rbidxXx Well, it's a really fucking cool guitar. I don't have any money to buy a guitar anyway. I wrote that 1st message when I was so shitfaced drunk I thought I actually had dough to spend.

  • @MonstroMuggins I just thought "fucking sell it to me" was hilarious

  • It was also used by David Cassidy on The Partridge Family, which is probably what killed it's sales, on top of it's weak sounding pickups.

  • omg. you people are stupid... why would he stop talking? it's a review... not a PREview... he's not here to show you what it can do, he's here to tell us about it...

-_- give him a break, or go the fuck away...

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck that talking.

Let us hear the guitar and dont waste our time..

  • Klein copied this guitar shape for his headless guitar

  • This guy plays crazy!

    /watch?v=Jh9nOBVbGHE

  • Shit, not one single sound although its about guitars :-((

  • the 70's had active pickups??

  • @Uunster Already in the year of 1955 Höfner began to supply guitars with active electronics. They were solid state preamps fed by a battery of 1,5 volts.

  • Holy Crap! I haven't seen one of those for years! It's so cool that you have one!

  • I don't want him to shut up ever! First I thought it was crazy but now I know I'm in love with him.I want him, and I'm going to meet him somehow. Meenwhile I'm learning to play the guitar to impress him... :)

  • Not Paul Stanley, Ace had this guitar.

  • yo whats the thing hangong behind you?

  • I've played one of these. It was a complete turd.Shit tone, zero sustain, uncomfortable as hell, the fretwork sucked and so did the quality of the "ebony" fingerboard. It actually had woodfiller in the fingerboard died to match.

  • sooo..why didn't you play the damn guitar??

  • Bla Bla Bla!! Play :) Talk :@

  • hey im bisexual and im looking for someone sed me a message

  • David, You are helping the YT (guitar) audience to get better informed. Thanks for providing this service. Keep up the good work!

  • Those pickups are like the world's first EMG's.

  • have u ever wonderd wy he allways looks at the camera directly andnever looks at the guitar

  • I remember that Steve Marriot promoted that guitar back in the day.

  • that neck looks huge

  • is that spliter like a kill switch??

  • @Poddymagee

A splitter is a coil splitter. Basically cuts the humbucker in half to get a single coil sound.

  • @WoWintosh thanks verry much man

  • mmmkay? he says that like 50 times

  • Is that an APE at 3:24 right off the bridge pickup on the inlay ? :D

  • play it then

  • Doo rag gotta go, homeboy..

  • 01:30

    Hmmmmkay

    xD

  • when did tom morrello use this guitar?

  • Hm'Kay?

  • sorry guys but i dont like this...it is so strange....

  • ugly

  • TWO 9v's O_O, and the body looks like the plastic on my my old fisher price toys

  • what is wrong with you kids?I know all the negative comments come from this generation of stupid kids who probably cant play an instrument any way.

  • 1978!

  • it wouldnt help, by playing the guitar so we can hear the sound? no..? it is a review.. Dumb ass...

  • Robert Smith used one of these in the early days.

  • wtf why didnt u play it????

  • I can't believe that he didn't demo this axe, what a moron!

  • wtf.. at least play it..

  • Are you kidding? That guitar was a total dog. Let's face it, it's ugly and no matter what you did to it, they never sounded right.. No wonder it was a commercial flop.

  • it looks absolutely horrible

  • i think johnny thunders used one of theese for a short time with the new york dolls

  • i think johnny thunders used one of theese for a short time with the new york dolls

  • It's in perfect condition for being a mid 70's guitar.

  • what does it sound like david? haha

  • I must hear the bread winner, be the first to play one on youtube dave

  • Ace Frehley of KISS played one in the early days actually, I dont think Paul Stanley played it

  • Would you be interested in selling the breadwinner ?

  • the body looks upside down LOL

  • You should have played it.

  • To correct you, Paul Stanley never used a Breadwinner. Ace Frehley used it though

  • Looks like a real ax.

  • AAAAAAAARRRRGHHHHHH!!!!!!,Are you idiot???? STOP talking and play the fucking guitar!!!!!,

  • @ohmygooooood what are you a pirate :P

  • show us your fender

  • ok?

  • well I'm sure that this is a great guitar but in my opinion, it's really ugly... :/ the body shape is OK but the colors... :/

  • cara de cavalo

  • why did he not play it...because it is a piece of shit you idiot! that's why it has virtually dis-a- fuckin'-peared. Loser guitar recycle bin refuse...AWay with you!

  • @coonboy75 @coonboy75 Nope, it's a great playing and well built guitar with just a couple of issues. The pickups and FET active circuit sound awful. I ripped mine out, went passive with Firebird pickups. Shove a chunk of maple or ebony under the back of the bridge plate for more sustain. That's it, from goofy sounding to smokin'. Plays really good, comfortable body design too. I can't put mine down these days. Mine's white, but I'm putting together a black one now.

  • @ironbuttermilk That's basically job #1 when it came to making that thing into a useful instrument. I even know somebody that went so far as to route out the area under the bride, poured in molten metal and drilled it out to accommodate a Gibson style tailpiece. Even that didn't give it an acceptable amount of sustain. Face it man, nobody likes this guitar!

  • nice breadwinner

  • man why did he not play that...

  • really awesome comment man

  • im sorry, but this is probably the stupidest guitar ever made

  • I have both a Breadwinner and a Deacon and they are very different guitars. The BW featured in this video is a later model with the small humbuckers that were standard on the Deacon. The early BWs had large flat toroidal PUs and the very first models had the input jack on the side of the body (mine is this way) rather than in the pickguard. In addition to the FET pre-amp the axe also had a band reject filter that could be tuned under the rear plate. My early model also has a smooth cover plate.

  • The sound difference between the HB PUs and the toroidal are striking. The HBs in my Deacon have a smooth, very fat sound and the toroidals in my BW are very hollow and piercing. In both axes the range of different sounds that can be made using the band reject filter feature are very broad, regardless, the guitar has a very distinctive sound, like nothing else and nothing else sounds like it.

I do not perform with either of them, but I do use them in the studio. To rare to risk being stolen.

  • I had no idea that active pickups were that old

  • dude sometimes u need to shut up and play

  • @abhijitgupta

    lols

  • @abhijitgupta You my friend are an asshole. This is HIS video, he will make the video how he wishes. There is a reason you can skip parts of the video, there is also a reason you may search for another video if this type of video is not to your liking. Some people enjoy hearing the specifications on the guitar, some people don't. So skip to the playing next time before making an asshole remark.

  • @GamerfulCody agreed...people wanting to buy the guitar will want to know all about it...i know theres a few I would like but there are no video's like this about them.

  • @abhijitgupta True, he has a lot of knowledge, but he does seem to go on for a while. xD

  • @abhijitgupta - amen. all of these assholes talk way too much and know way too little. marketing.

  • looks like a battle ax

  • I just bought one, it's a very unique guitar!

  • where did you buy it from?

  • play that bird i wanna hear her sing!

  • it depends what you like

  • are you serious? ......... gibson .......... taylor was actually an off-brand guitar but. they got more an more popular . gibson better

  • I've got a black one, pretty cool guitar, very comfortable to play and mine's surprisingly light, so the weight must vary a bit like les pauls. I'd love an all white one, good luck finding one now for $500.

  • M'Kay

  • i love that guitar because it has bread and winer in its name >=]

  • this guitar is really really nice ha the features are sick

  • This and the Gibson Nocturne are the weirdest guitars I've ever seen.

  • this guy is cool, but is it me or whennever he records a video, he takes some hits in big bong??

  • ...OK...

  • oh god, guitar nerds. i can't believe i watched this whole clip...

  • Ace frehley had a white one

    not

    Paul Stanley!

  • Play 4:36 over and over

  • haha yea he sounds like a little kid whining when i did that

  • ROFL! Music and guitar, Music and Guitar, Music and guitar is all about... looks funny if you repeat it right. Ha!

  • blah blah blah

  • what a fucked looking guitar

  • new hartford, CT, not - hartford, even though i'd love to see someone get robbed trying to find the ovation factory in the north end...

  • As FZ once said..."Shut Up And Play Your Guitar"...sheesh...

  • I can't believe it- 6.5 minutes watching this clip and I didn't get to HEAR the guitar. He spends way too much time using 100 words to say something that could be said in 20 and talks endlessly- at the expense of letting us actually HEAR THE GUITAR.

I appreciate the info, but he should learn to summarize a bit better and *play* the guitars so we can get better ideas of their sound characteristics. It seems he's more interested in the sound of his own voice than he is demonstrating the guitars.

  • yeah i agree.

  • i don't know... I like hearing about the history and the specs of the guitar... just fast forward the vid to get to the playing if you find hes talking to much?

  • I create that guitar more ugly than the end of my life? Just a rough guess from a white boy

  • I think that is the ugliest guitar I have ever seen in my life

  • its a good guitar tho

  • I think this is the ugliest guitar ive ever seen in my life ... : )

  • I think that is kind a cool xD

  • vete par carajo entonce puneta

  • Am I the only one who noticed that hee didn't play it?

  • I have to agree- reviews are OK, but I can _read_ that information. Since you're on video, even a couple chords would give us an idea what it sounds like. and make it worth watching. PLAY. No more "Review Only" please. "Rock On"

  • One of the wailers played an Ovation. I think it's Peter Tosh! 5:00 minutes into this clip watch?v=H7zGmX7Nzlk

I got exactly the same one! But I used it for indie and Shoe gazing!

Like the Man said, "they are bright" but nothing a phew pedals can't remedy!

  • I got a very good back one with the case but I rarely break it out cause the nut came loose. Anyone suggest what type of glue to use to secure it again?

  • sorry, but this guitar looks like shit.

  • he said coming lessons, dipshit.

  • This dude looks pretty cool with his dog tags, muscle shirt, and backwards cap NUMBER 1 BADASS IN THE HOUSE! just kidding you look like a frikken 40 year old guy who lives in his mom's basement
