@DragonUltraMaster the button's purpose is to restrain the effects of an electromagnetic anomaly on the island. Not pressing the button sort of "raises the barrier". Since this 'force' is electromagnetic, metal objects begin flying towards it. If left for a while, the 'force' would cause devastation on the island. Turning the key is a fail-safe. I believe it detonates the anomaly.

The gyphs just mean you're screwed.

a good season finale but alot of well plot holes. frist off why is desmond almost suprised to see people enter the hatch when he heard loche screaming on the hatch door 3 days before. secondly why did'nt desomnd ever mention that when he forgot to press the buttion there was a big earthquake untill locke wants to stop pushing the buttion.

By them not pushing the button, the full smoke monster is now free. The smoke monster needed 108 minutes for him to get Locke to destroy that computer. Think of the button as the cork that limits the power of the smoke monster once you push the button. If you fail to press it, it allows the smoke monster to fully form and be active on the island. This is why when Desmond doesn't push the button, the plane crashes and you hear the smoke monster in the distance. This is within the 108 minute span.

I love Lost as much as the next sad bastard, but when I watch this, and no matter how slow season 2 could be, I think that they don't pace Lost as well as they used to. I loved season 4, but season 5 just wasn't as gripping for some reason. And it's finale didn't have the amazing tension this one did.

I disagree. I think that Season 3's finale was easily the strongest, and I don't hesitate putting season 5's in a close second. I think that Season 4's was the weakest, only because we knew what happened. I loved that season as a whole, though.

im sorry but 3 kinda gave me the lowest adreline rush. there wasnt much..10 others died, jack beat ben up, jack called the boat, charlie died, we realize all the flash backs were flash forwards. thats kinda it. like 2 was more suspense. 5 was like "okay anything can happen now that that H-bomb blew up" 1 was cool, but like after half a season they finnaly open the hatch, we see the monster for the first time and 4 after a whole season, we know john is dead, they got off the island, and so fourth

I thought everyone's intentions to why they were doing things in 5 was a little murky. It wasn't really clear what anyone's motivations were as it seemed like they were trying to fit a bit too much in. And for some reason i thought the dialogue came across a bit rushed. I suppose I don't really rate it purely on action. And even if I did all the magnetic anomoly's were exactly what happened at the end of 2, three seasons ago.

I like that alot of the fans theories were wrong and that the writers managed to do things their own way. And so far, Season 6 is close to being as great as Seasons 1, 4, and 5.

The hatch didn't explode it imploded. The magnetic force imploded on it's self because the charge was too great and didn't get released.

If you remember the same sound is happening when the losties are time traveling in season 5. Look at bens face when desmond uses the fail safe key. he knows exactly what's happening. We will find out soon what's behind that bloody wall full of concrete.
