Because the species are so exotic and haven't been touched in a very long time? Either way you lay judgment on what in nature should be preserved over another. Though they are weak and always dying, the less diversity the more vulnerable any species is. The Galapagos islands have a unique mix of diversity that can't be replicated elsewhere and would thus be a loss to the study of genetics, if nothing else.
