yes indeed! its taking me somewhere with someone i may not know but surely special to me....when i first heard the song i got LSS with! (LAST SONG SYNDROME) its just whirling in my head! when we conceptualized our spa family business david's music became my first choice for the music background, and we're playing his magical works up to this day! amazing, if im not married i woud have always wish for a guy like him =)
im 21 , my first time hearing this song , i had to be about 13 or 14 and i fell in love w. it so deeply. . . thanks to my Dad i appreciate good music like this
This song was used by "The Weather Channel" in the very early 90's. That is where I first heard this song while living in Kansas. Very pretty music to hear while reading the scrolling forecasts and watching approaching storms on radar....
I love this song because i can remember good memories about my first love when i was 12 yrs old and my new one right now when i met that person in cebu...
@imjunipernow Do you think he knew about rock that much, or was he reading a script? He seemed to refer to a lot of concerts he'd gone to. (Maybe re was a Metallica groupie) And now RXP is an all news station, but I'm not sure if he's still there. I expect to hear him on the classical station next.
@imjunipernow Do you think he knew about rock that much, or was he reading a script? He seemed to refer to a lot of concerts he'd gone to. (Maybe he was a Metallica groupie) And now RXP is an all news station, but I'm not sure if he's still there. I expect to hear him on the classical station next.
@imjunipernow Very fond memories of that station. Before I even owned a portable CD player, I fondly remember tuning to that station when I was young. I was devastated when they were bought out.
@imjunipernow Oh no, what happened to CD101.9?!? I used to listen to them all the time when I was living in NJ (born and raised, left when I was 15 in 1993). I moved to the Tampa Bay area but never forgot them and even went back briefly in 2000 and listened to them all the time. What happened? Let me, guess, they changed their format? Why do they always think they have to change? TWC is NOTHING like they were in their heyday in the late 80's - early 90's too, and keep going backwards.
@LumarraKice Out of the blue it turned into a heavy rock station and then some time last year it became 101.9 NEW which played light music for a couple of weeks and now it's 24-hour news and gossip. No idea where any of the DJs went. Miss them almost as much as the music. :o-(
@imjunipernow My god, it's even worse than I feared! I was just thinking they had changed to modern contemporary or maybe a mix with Top 40. I didn't think they changed completely like that. So sad to hear that! I happen to have about 10 hours worth of tape recordings of CD101.9 from 1992-1993 before I left for FL so I guess those are all that's left of this legendary radio station. Man, that's depressing as all hell...Thank you for the heads up anyway... ;)
i underatand that david wrote this for his mother. this reminds me of mine. David Benoit was the first smooth jazz that really caught my ear when i started college back in '88--it was the song Freedom At Midnight on WNUA in Chicago. i was hooked and have been a fan ever since. saw David perform twice and both shows were wonderful. He always has top-notch musicians backing him up. thanx again, boswell69!
@nowimustchange - oooh yes! i wonder if its still on the air. they really were a unique station for several years. but later, they started getting away from the jazz and playing stuff like Phil Collins and Brian McKnight--that isn't jazz! that's what the soft rock stations were for! but they still peppered in some jazz here and there. it got to the point where i started making my own smooth jazz compilations to take in the car, but yes, once upon a time WNUA played some quite unique stuff!
@truthaintpretty Isn't Kei David's wife? (Or, maybe by now she WAS his wife LOL) I first heard this song on the syndicated radio jazz show "Art Goode's Jazz Traxx" back in 87/88 and I recall Art saying on his show that David wrote this song for his wife, Kei, who I think is Hawaiian.
Yes, you're right! I thought I had heard it years back that she was his mother (perhaps it was the dj on WNUA). There is a free podcast available thru iTunes from last year called "Talking Smooth Jazz" that featured David with some wonderful music from Earthglow and personal interviews. He mentioned how had recently celebrated his 25th w/ Kei. If you haven't heard it, check it out! Peace & God Bless.
@truthaintpretty Thanks for the confirmation. I don't know why I remember that obscure bit of trivia from a radio show some 20+ years ago, when I can't even remember what I had for dinner last night (lol!). Maybe it's because, to this day, this is one of my favorite songs. Glad to hear that David and Kei are still together. She's lucky to have a husband who poured his heart out to her in a beautiful piece of music. I'm going to check out that podcast on iTunes. Thanks for mentioning it. =)
i've had this song in my head for over 20 years. my college roommate - we didn't like each other that much but we both loved music - used to play this guy's stuff. and i never forgot this one. i've had the part where it breaks...and he runs up the keys....in my head all this time...like an influence. can't believe i found it here....didn't know what it was called. so thanks for posting, still gave me chills, and Ney....wherever you are...
Truly an amazing piece of music. Lyrical, driving , elegant, mystical, playful and universal. I can imagine myself driving down the highway, sitting at the beach watching wave after wave, watching the stars or the clouds or being picked up by the wind and just flying. What joy this music is. It touches the soul.
In Tampa, we had a great radio station (102.5 W H V E) back in the 80's that played wonderful music like this. My wife and I would sail our old sail boat on Tampa Bay at night while these priceless songs seemed to capture the spirit of the wind and waves around us. The radio station got bought up by some big conglomerate and went away and my wife passed on. This song brings me back to that better time in my world. Thanks for posting it.
@nightwind928 The great radio station where I would hear this beautiful song was 96.7 KZEL in Fresno, CA. Much to my sadness it, too, is now gone. Some of my best memories from the 80's and 90's include the music played on that station, which I seemed to listen to 24/7 and will be forever etched in my mind. Each time I hear this song I fall in love with it over and over again as I did the very first time I heard it over 20 years ago. Your comment was so touching I just had to respond. :-)
@nightwind928: Yes, the Tampa Bay area is a great place to enjoy music like this with the beaches & all the beautiful scenery. I used to enjoy that radio station (with Al Santana) during that time as well. My condolences for the loss of your wife from a fellow Tampa native.
THIS IS A PIANO CLASSIC,This is music, its a shame that only a select few music lovers know this song.DB is an amazing performer, seen him twice in concert in New York.
@intojazznyc yeah I love this cut......I'm jealous you got to see him twice though, I live in the country, far from anywhere close to him, would have to go at least 150 miles, well it would be worth it, hmmmm will have to ck when he's coming to my area, thanks Lady L.
This song takes me back to my college days in Atlanta, GA. Driving down the highway at night under the star filled sky, watch the beautiful skyline as my roomates and I drove into the city!! Love this song to this day!
Thank you for posting. Like so many beautiful songs from the 1990s, I appreciate it even more now reminiscing about it than I did when I was young. To mew, there's something distinctly Autumn-like about this song, like the perfect backdrop for the leaves falling on a sunny, brisk Thanksgiving Holiday. Reminds me of the family all coming together with the wonderful holidays right around the corner...
i heard david on a GRP sampler disc in 1991 there was two tracks off this release one featured jeff porcaro on drums and dann huff on guitar. i have davids album shadows with a singer named valerie pinkston which is very good again with jeff on board and nathan east many great players.benoit is like ritenour on guitar ,a very interesting player!
One of my favorites, thanks for including the year for this album ! !
