  • wait if you can go on you tube you need to hear things

  • @guineapig55635 Does your ISP charge extra for punctuation?

  • Ok so for the nook u need Internet does that mean if u r in an area w out wifi u can't read books??

  • @xoxocarly2333 You need internet to buy books.

  • @xoxocarly2333 No, it doesn't. If the books are already loaded on the Nook you can read them any time without WiFi access.

  • does the cost of an ebook change depending on the reader?

  • @patomargain Not so much. Most ebook stores have similar prices on the same books.

  • You CAN highlight in the nook simple touch.

  • the ability of web browsing on kindle is great ,I can read nytimes.com and with the "article mode"that kindle touch has it makes it like a book page to read any web page.kindle also has mp3 player which you can listen music . in where I live there is no B&N store . in sense of features on paper kindle touch wins

  • the kindle family rules , AMAZON ROcKS

  • Does the look light up at all? or is it like the kindle?

  • @cassrs3496 nook*

  • @cassrs3496 It uses E ink, which means you have to hold it up to the light. (E ink makes the screen act like a real book page)

  • Do any nooks have audio?

  • @cassrs3496 no any audio format is supported on nook.

  • I got the kindle touh for 3 reasons: audio, browser and ( to a slight extent) hype. I don't have any problems with it, but having seen this video, I feel some slight regrets. I always felt the nook had a high contrast screen and better menu.

  • This is the only channel I can trust that reviews stuff! :)

  • @hottdoll22 Thank you! Please share our reviews with others. Thanks!:)

  • thanks im getting the nook!!!

  • the caecilia font on the nook is exactly the same as the serif font on the kindle

  • nook is 1000000 times better. WOOT WOOT

  • One of the best reviews I have ever seen. I am going for the nook! Thank you!

  • Just wanted to thank you for putting out such a thorough and practical review. Other comparsons I just read in my research seemed to be written by someone who had never used the readers before the day the decided to review. Subscribed.

  • thanks for the informative review. It blows away the CNET review. I read lots of PDFs and the limitations of both devices are very relevant for me but CNET didn't even talk about these and other important limitations. They just seemed to care about selling someone's else's product.

  • I can't believe I'm buying a monochrome device with scroll lag in 2012... But I am

  • hey great review, very informative

  • are we able to import PDF files in seperately? or do we have to get all the ebooks from B&N?

  • @NihilisticAngel You can side load PDF books, ePub books, and more to the Nook.

  • @NihilisticAngel You can side load PDF books, ePub books, and more to the Nook.

  • @MobileTechReview okie! thanks! jus placed an order for it! =DD

  • As of January 2012, has the Nook Touch's Internet browsing capability returned? I'd love to get the Nook but if they can't do something about the Internet browsing I might go for Kindle.

  • Such a helpful video :)

  • And my second question is , I found this site, which offers Amazons Touch 3G worldwide. Will it work in the UK properly ? I am doubtful because Amazon itself doesn't offer it yet.

    Here is the site - w w w. shopereaders.c o m /Kindle-Touch-3G-Reading-Device-Special-Offers-p/kindle%20touch3gspecial. htm Please let me know, and thank you !

  • Hello! I live in the UK, and I have to activate my Wi-Fi through a browser by writing my user name and password. Does this mean that if I buy Nook, I won't be able to use it, and lets say it doesn't work - what about kindles Wi-Fi, will i have problems with it ?

  • @avida913 Also, I exclusively sideload ebooks so I can't comment on the usability of the Barnes & Noble store vs. the Amazon bookstore, although I hear that the Amazon one is preferable.

  • @RageKage14 which do you think is better? The kindle Touch or the Nook Simple Touch? And I've heard from a lot of people that the Nook's screen freezes sometimes, has the screen ever frozen on you, or have you ever had problems with the Nook or Kindle?

  • @avida913 I've used the Kindle less than I've used the Nook (My friend has the Kindle so I've only taken it on test reads). I prefer the Nook purely for design and comfort to hold. The screens seem to act pretty much the same. No, I haven't had any freezing screen problems on my Nook.

  • I've used both, and I think that the Nook is more comfortable to hold for long periods of time. That's what led to my decision to get a Nook over a Kindle.

  • @MobileTechReview: I'm 13 and in less than a week my birthday is going to arrive, and I decided to get an ereader. But I absolutely can't decide between the Kindle touch and the Nook Simple Touch. Which one would you recommend?

  • "eye-yos" haha. It's iOS, "eye, oh, es"

  • the web browser is available...i just used it today...?

  • This video was so amazingly helpful. I'm glad I saw this video because comparison websites were too biased. Now I just need to decide if I like physical books better than the nook because the kindle is now out of the picture. Thank you.

  • Thanks for this youtube review vid. I prefer the kindle. I do like the ebook layout in the nook, but I think the nook simple touch is just too ugly.

  • I think I now know which E-reader I want, thank you for the informative video! I subscribed!

  • @swkninja Great! Thanks! And let us know how you like your new ereader.

  • i just got the kindle touch and i am saying this from it and does anybody know how to view vidoes on it

  • @jcomliller A quick look at Amazon's Kindle Touch Product page list the avaible media formats: Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, Audible (Audible Enhanced(AA,AAX)), MP3, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion.,

As you will notice Video Formats are not available on the touch, you will need to upgrade to the Kindle Fire to view video on their E-reader (tablet)...

  • @jcomliller you can't view videos on it.

  • I'm going to have to break down and get that simple touch. I am really falling in love with the shape, and tbh, the kindle logo's contrast at the top of the device really turned me off, along with all the other little things that just compounded against its functionality for me. Thanks so much, Lisa!

  • i just purchased my nook simple touch and i hope i dont break it like my last nook 1st edition

  • ... I cant decide!!

  • Excellent!! I just ordered myself a Nook ST and was hoping those lines on the sides were physical page turn buttons. Personally I am sooo sick and tired of swiping my finger across screens on my phone, laptop, DESKTOP... Can't wait to feel the damage all this swiping is doing to my wrist in 20 years. Give me a freaking break.

Thank you Nook! Can't wait for you to get here.

  • Both have pretty much converged in terms of quality and value IMO, its just up to preference. But definitely one of these over the non-touch Kindle, you'd think the only difference is the touchscreen but the battery is about half as large as either of these.

  • "It's real. Holy shit its real."

LOL I laughed when I saw that was in the book :D

  • Thank you for the highly comprehensive comparison. This will be very useful to me.

  • @illustriouschin You are welcome! Please share our reviews. :)

  • This was awesome. Thank you for a very thorough review.

  • if i hadnt bought kindle books before buying an e reader, i wouldve gotten the nook

  • Comment removed

  • i acknowledge that Nook is great and i would of gotten it but i don't know why, Kindle came a calling. Got myself a Kindle Touch and is ultra happy with it! I think we should not subject ereaders to the same 'which one is better' kind of thing like smartphones or tablets. I mean they are meant for reading and they ALL perform the task perfectly. So what if the refresh rates on the other is faster? You're reading a book, that's all that matters.

  • @aric0913

...meh. fact is, they have different features. the buttons on the nook might easily sway some people. the headphone jack/speakers on the kindle may sway people (although the mp3 player and text-to-speech are useless) . 240mb max side loaded content on nook may scare people away. the ease of rooting the nook may sway people (so nook can play kindle books). the ads on the kindle may scare people away. any of these issues could seal the deal for someone.

  • what do you prefer. buying and reading real books or downloading books on a e-reader. and which one is cheaper?

  • I got the Nook Simple Touch reader almost as soon as it came out because I had been looking for a E-Ink based reader that was a good size and quick to turn pages. The Nook was absolutely perfect and I have read many books on it since its been a wonderful experience. I also love that i can go into my nearest B&N store and read for an hour for free!!

  • @MrBleh7 Excellent! :)

  • @rybarr33 the kindle was not the first e-reader and the nook has less features because it is supposed to be SIMPLE ( thus the name nook SIMPLE touch

  • great review helped me decide between the two. I am going with the nook because it supports open formats like epub, better ergonomics, and the android based os seems like it is easier to update/improve. I also really like the fact that there are physical page turn buttons because this helps to keep the screen from smudging i.e. at the beach w/sunscreen on hands or eating while you read.

  • I have to comment because too many people are in favor of the Nook. First of all Kindle is the best because it is the first E Reader the first of its kind. The Nook is just a cheap knock off and a copy cat. Just because everyone likes to steal books doesn't make the Nook better then Kindle. The Kindle has more features and a leading class book store which B&N does not. Also Kindle has a lot more features that make more sense then the lack of physical page turn buttons. Seriously people wake up!

  • Nook = Mario

    Kindle = Luigi

    lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol

  • @Brooke41599 i agree with u, but in the video, the transitions between page turning and menu opening on the nook was a little sluggish and unclear compared to the kindle. The kindle also supports more formats. Also, does the barnes n noble website have a greater selection of books than amazon? If it does, i searched a couple of books and i couldnt reall find the popular ones like "The fall by Robert Muchamore"

  • in my opinion nook is the way to go

  • Has anyone had a problem with the touchscreen. I've read in the B&N forums that many people has been getting some issues with it and I'm concerned because it might be some serious issue.

  • WHICH ONE WOULD YOU GET? PLEASE REPLY!!!! IM GETTING EITHER ONE IN A FEW WEEKS AND I DONT WANT TO MAKE THE WRONG CHOICE!!!!!!!!

  • @Mtron1000 the nook simple touch the back is better it is faster and if u look on amazon.com and barnes and noble .com you can find reviews and that was my deciding factor because kindle all had like 4 and 2 stars and nook had 4 and 5 I hope you choose what you think though!

  • @Brooke41599 think noks better, thnx for the advice!

  • is it true that after upgrade nst fw to 1.1 it still has a web browser

  • @parrymagpie yes the web browsing feature is still there, you will have to login using your gmail account and then you can browse web as usual, the web browser isnt very good but its better than nothing.

  • Amazons mandatory one click buy "feature" is incredibly annoying and render the device unusable as a family device. When I complained to the customer rep about this her response is to buy one for each member of my household. Lol! Seriously that's a deal break to some. MTR dropped the ball here by not bringing it up.

  • VERY IMPORTANT PART 2: Once you have signed in using your google account do not select grant or deny access, instead on left top click on your gmail account @gmail.com, and then click on account settings above sign out, now on the bar below "social" click on "web" it will take you to google search page, now you can search the web and do what ever you want, so the browsing feature still exists its just a bit more indirect, but hey at least its still there without needing a root.

  • VERY IMPORTANT PART 1: The browser is still available after the update, and no you dont require a root, you can still use the browser, do google searches check email and almost everything the eink will permit. , like before. barnes and noble has been sneaky like before, to use the web browser goto settings and then goto "social" and select "link to facebook, twitter, and google" then chose link your google account, Do NOT chose facebook or twitter, then sign in using your google account.

  • i wish in future the ebook readers would come with embedded led lights, looking at the design, you can put led lights in four corners in a way that they spread the light on screen making it easier to read them at night and avoid users using an extra clip on led light source.

  • I have no idea why amazon decided to lose physical page turn buttons when they had them all along, nook also definitely feels better when you hold it, but at the end of they day we put them in case and then it doesnt matter that much. kindle has a lot more features especially in lead when it comes to web browsing, kindle would have been clear winner for me if only it had not missed on physical page turn buttons.

  • i absolutely love my nook simple touch, but i dont think it's perfect, kindle lacks physical page turn buttons (very bad), nook lost its web browser feature (very bad). i dont care for audio feature of kindle but i know a lot of people who do, like my roommate he likes to hear the book while reading it, while i dont care, i find it distracting.

  • I have a question please: does the Nook have a whiter screen than the Kindle? Because in some of the videos it seems so...

    Thanks!

  • @tauicsicsics nook's screen has become slightly whiter after the update, it has better contrast now and is more fun to read, even though i think book covers used to look better before the update, also it is much faster after the update, the only drawback of update is the loss of web browsing feature (very bad).

  • Great job, Lisa. The best review on these 2 devices.

  • @tauicsicsics Thanks!

  • @tauicsicsics Really the only review comparing these devices. Seriously, I'm surprised that I can't find more of these. But well done review, never the less.

  • i'm just glad people are reading more.

  • 9:00

  • You do rock. Thank you so much. I think the Nook wins for me.

  • I bought a nook simple touch from best buy for $79 and received a free wall power adapter from b&n when I purchase the light for $9 on Black Friday.

  • Will you compare The iPad 2 with Kindle Fire

  • When will you be reviewing the LG Nitro HD?

  • one pro for the kindle not mentioned in this review is the available sleeve with an integrated LED.

i cant see any contacts on the backside of the nook, so i think you need an additional battery if you use a led case.

  • As Always Thanks LISA.

  • That nook is defected. The screen is offset (that's why you see a white line on top and left). People considering both: this is not a general defect on the nook, it's just this one.

  • thx for doing this

  • Yeah, pdfs poses problems on both; particularly library loans.

  • super fast*

  • Awesome comparison! I have the Nook Simple Touch and love it... the 1.1.0 update was great... page turning is super dast and the e-ink contrast is amazing!

  • You are the best reviewer!!!

  • @deathnote94silence Thank you! :)

  • I have nominated you my 2011 number 1 tech reviewer. I love my nook simple touch it feels great in the hands and the epub books look great. I bought my from Best Buy, they were offering it with a free 2GB micro SD card loaded with $315 worth of books, a total of 30 books.

  • Comment removed

  • @dureyes Thank you for the nomination! :)

  • What tablet is the best just for reading?

  • Great review! I'm getting the Nook for christmas.

  • I'm planning on buying a book reader for christmas with a budget of $120-$130 but I can't decide between the Nook Simple Touch, Kindle Touch or Kindle 4. The Kindles without the ads, Which one do you suggest, I plan on using it for reading mainly. The ergonomics on Kindle 4 worries me,

  • @cornejor23 Get the Nook, check with Best Buy see if they are still offering the free micro sd card loaded with $315 worth of books...you can also see both units there as well and feel them with your hands. The nook will feel much better to read. All the best.

  • @cornejor23 I would go for Nook. It has a much larger selection of books than the kindle in the B&N Store, plus you can get book from other sources that use ePub

  • great review

  • Good comparrison, ill stick with my flyer for books though!
