The movie is amazing but in my opinion the book is much better. It shows more details and aspects e.g. characters' point of view, what gave me a lot. But I couldn't stop comparing both during the movie.
The whole trilogy is cliffhanging, one book better than another. Now I have to watch Swedish version.
By the way, I love Lisbeth's accent in this movie.
when the author described cecilia danger, i couldn't help picture meryll streep... i'm sorry but if you've read the novel, you'd know how disturbing meryll streep as cecilia would be.
I saw the movie, but I feel like I got lost during a lot of parts but I understood the basic story. So should I not read the book? I was disturbed by the movie, but I have no idea why I want to read the book now.
@2011alliecat You probably want to read it because the book always has the whole story. The details they had to cut out of the movie, either because of the time constraint or because it didn't translate well in the new media, are all right there in the book.
Just a warning, the book is quite disturbing too. And prepare for a lot of descriptions of what people are eating.
This is my favorite movie so far. I love how nothing seems forced in the acting of the main characters, they suck you right in. I specially loved the ending because it hits you with realness. Great movie and great actors, Rooney Mara just killed it.
Just saw this movie today....I'm still digesting it. I didn't see the Swedish version, and haven't read the book, but I will say this is a very good movie. It's dark, it's edgy and it keeps you guessing. Finally something I can say was a decent movie and worth the price of admission. Just my opinion
This is typical of how Hollywood takes a really good movie and turns it to shit. The original was about the story and the strong characters. This shit is about the the big name movie stars attempting to act, which they are incapable of doing. I watched about 20 minutes of this crap before I turned it off. if you havent seen the original this might scrape in a 2/5 at the most.
I think that Rooney looks and represant better this character, the ironi is that she looks more Swedish then the actual Swedish actress Noomi and in the same time Noomi is tuff and hard and dangerus if u like, but the idea of the book was (i guees) that Lisbeth should look weak, distent strange, difrend and slightly danderous which is wot i see in Rooney..and this could lead to the OSCAR(i hope) ..in the other hand Noomi dit a wonderfull performants and she disereves part of the success..INDEED

frustrating that people think this is a remake of the Swedish movies. it is NOT a remake of any movie. it is a DIFFERENT adaptation of the books. they were not trying to recreate the Swedish movies (which I loved as well) at all. their focus was on the novel. and they did a damn good job of it too.
Rooney Mara IS Lisbeth Salander ! "Cuter" isn't the right word, she's more fragile maybe...But she did an amazing job ! And her weirdness is appealing...it make her hot and really sexy, it's so strange !
@gabiborgo yeah well, i did ;] at that point i didn't know reznor was doing all the music for the movie. anyway, i like this cover more than the original song. this one is so much more powerful than LZ
Man people, you are worst then Americans. They actually made a good movie out of this wish is commonly regarded to be better then the original versions. ANn yes, I am European.
@christianotelo don't put this movie down so quickly. As a fan of the series, this movie pretty much tops the original Swedish versions and I'm not American.. I was skeptical initially that it would not be true to the books, but this is more than the case and the film does not disappoint. They don't hold back on any of those filthy scenes and Rooney Mara is quite damn sexy. When I read the book, she's closer to the image of Lisbeth I get while reading than Noomi Rapace is. Don't put it down :)
@JamesCmuse i have recently seen the american version and according to my opinion the swedish is better..of curse there is nothing better that the books! and to be honest i didn't like Daniel Graig very much! i believe that Michael Nyqvist was much more closer to the books character...i liked both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara!anyway i personally believe that the swedish movies are incomparable!!!!!!
@christianotelo haha yeah, I think Daniel Craig is a bit of a pushover in this, in the books he's got a bit more of an edge to him, I think! I suppose it's each to their own, I'm personally just a massive fan of the series and I really like the material regardless! I think Rooney did an absolutely amazing job as Lisbeth though.. and she's kinda hot :P
@JamesCmuse both of them very good..i liked Noomi more because she looks" darker and more cruel"..rooney is actually cuter and that didn't match 100% with lisbeth..and why she had a little tattoo up in her shoulder?? according to the book she should have a tattoo from the back till the neck just like noomi had..in the first scence that i saw rooneys back i though were the fuck is her tattoo??? anyway i liked rooney, she did a good job..!
@christianotelo Yeah I agree, although I did imagine Lisbeth to be more like Rooney myself, but that's just my opinoin :) I'm delighted Fincher didn't try to cast someone big from hollywood like scarlett johansson.. I imagine it would be a very different movie if he did.
@JamesCmuse ..i can't imagine which Hollywood star could perfome lisbeth...to be honest i have learned more about Rooney now cause of the film..for me Rapace is stuck on my mind...! scarlett for sure would be the hottest lisbeth ever...!! :P
@christianotelo and u belive all around the world are waiting for the Swedish movies to be released, lol....i belive the Americans do many times a wrong and unnecessary version but this time it was very successful..sorry man..:)
@christianotelo my coment was on that...." please stop remaking every single movie that wasn't in english...!!! we have seen all the 3 movies...we don't need the american versions"..Well "we do need the American versions" and i meant in generally people don't see the Swedish movies so often(with all my respect to the Swedish industry) as the American and thats a fact so there for the American version can reach a wider audience...so there for what u sayng dozent make a lot of sens...
Loved Rooney Mara's performance in this. She was incredible. Btw, I also liked the Swedish films a great deal too. And this is coming from a Canadian who ALMOST always likes Scandinavian or European films (with or without subtitles) more than films that seem to be made in North America. But Rooney Mara was so amazing as Lisbeth. Almost exactly as I had envisioned her in my mind while reading the books. And people should stop judging a performance they haven't seen yet.
I'm sure with such great direction this movie will at least be equal to the original movie in terms of greatness, and I hope that it stays truer to the book. But this is not a good trailer, the music was annoying and it was so fast-paced it gave me a headache.
This is easily the best movie I've seen this year. In my opinion it's much better than the Swedish original. Better acted, better directed and better written. I promise you, even if you've already seen the original, you won't be dissapointed.
although this movie looks awesome, i can't take it seriously b.c the song reminds me of a scene in a shrek movie with snow white calling all the birds with that same song
The acting needless to say was great. But the concept of remaking it is other thing.
Is like remaking "IP Man" -a Chinese film- into an American film, where all actors are americans; but, the the rest like backgrounds, names, and all is like the original. If you can picture it, you might say will be very moronic.. and you will be correct. = For me the original was far better.
would have been nice to see the original girl, noomi rapace, in that remake. what i have seen from the copy ...her eyes...she looks too soft. in rapaces eyes you could see what they have done to her. what she will do to them.
I've never had a problem with people making lots of adaptions from one single idea or foundation. What's the problem? You got a good book you'll get different versions with different illustrations by different illustrators. Same thing. If the book is as good as you say then it DESERVES to have someone who will take it to extreme measures. Big budget, brilliant actors/director/writers, wonderful costume and props, scenery etc. This trailer tills me all those things are present. Count me in.
hey next they should make a game based on this movie and the debate should be which is better the xbox 360 version or the ps3 version, sorry couldn't resist
for all the people complaining how these films will be terrible, please come back on after you have watched them and apologise.....Fincher is a class act and will prove it...
why doesn't anyone admire the beauty of the books instead of wasting time debating over movies that originate from the books themselves? without the beauty of the story, there wouldnt even be a movie.
If you had read the books or paid any attention at all to the story, you would realize that she doesn't hate men: she hates men who hate and abuse women. She was abused and raped and the men who did those things to her got their comeuppance. She is a magnificent example of a woman who gave men who are evil what they deserved. If you read the books and didn't like them, that's fine. Don't make a blase judgement of something you didn't even read.
i suspect that this movie being made has zero to do with 'americans' inability to read subtitles' and everything to do with david fincher's and (rooney mara's!!!) incredible talent.
it is so upsetting to see all these comments about how the original was better or hollywood is just making money off remakes etc. david fincher is Not Hollywood. this will be original, dark and exciting, like the books. it is not a *remake* of the swedish movie, it is david fincher taking the book and creating a movie with his vision of it. if people judged this trailer on it's own most would say that it is fucking badass! stop being close-minded and realise this is going to be incredible.
I am so excited to see this movie. Not because of the books, or the previous versions, or the actors/actresses... but because it appears to be aesthetically stunning and has an intriguingly dark storyline that will make this film stand out on its own accord. I just hope I can say that after I see it :]
alright players they should never remake a movie for money that was as good as the first girl with the dragon tattoo made like what 4 years ago? stupid holywood just wants money, turning into the banks!
Sick of comments of the sort "the original is way better" "read the books", etc etc. How can you even compare them to a movie it hasn't been released? I personally haven't read the books or seen the Swedish movies, but this looks fucking great and I hope I can finish the first book before I can't resist going to a cinema... Besides, David Fincher is not your typical Hollywood film-maker, so this may as well be "the first" better-than-the-original Hollywood remake. :P
However, the original Swedish films are so intense and well done that going back to read multiple books will just bore me. The only exception I would have ever made is if a film completely ruined some amazing, highly recommended books OR if the books so good and well known that if you die before you read them, you win an honorary Darwin Award, e.g. LotR+Hobbit by Tolkien! :)
@utubesqueeze They don't need luck. THEY DESTROYED THE ORIGINAL in every way possible. I watched the original right before going to the new one, no comparison in my opinion, i STILL cant stop thinking about it, I'm a BIG movie person but will never defend other movies i like, cause i don't care what people say or think, EXCEPT for this one!! SUCH an amazing movie, everyone whose interested in the books or the older film needs to go see the new one Mara, Fincher, and Craig R AMAZING!
@dead0alice at least i won't have to look at the bottom of the damn screen all the time. besides no one's seen the english version yet, how do you know that it sucks? am i supposed to believe you work at Sony/Columbia or something?
this trailer raped me and made me love it. i just came. but i really liked the original film. even though daniel craig is a great actor i still think the original is gonna be bertter. have yet to see a good hollywood remake :( why do this???
Naomi Rapace was great, but i'm really looking forward to this. I love this actress, haha, although i can't really prove that effectively because i can't remember her name
@mundungus2323 Yes that's it! haha! I understand why people didn't like that movie, but even in contrast to the old ones, i absolutely loved it, and she of course was amazing, and i'm not just saying that. She really can act
this is shit the originial movie is was better their was no need to remake it. they could of just dubbed it instead of doin this Noomi Rapace is was better then this girl
i loved the swedish film... and u.s. remakes of european films suck. noomi rapace was so great as lisbeth, i think it will be very hard to do it better
I find it sad they've decided to remake an English version so soon after the Swedish version. Let them have their thunder, it was an excellently made film. I'm hoping this one doesn't over shadow the achievement before it. Like the trailer though.
First of all, you can't judge a movie that you haven't even seen yet. 2nd) Nobody said there is anything wrong with the original Swedish version. 3rd) Going to the movies is sort of about relaxing, so reading subtitles is sort of a bitch 4th) Have only watched the Swedish version of TGWTDT (will be renting other soon) Naomi Rapace was an excellent Lisbeth. 5th) Either way, NEITHER movie will live up to the BRILLIANCE of the books. READ THEM.
@unlistedmuse17 still i believe that the Swedish version makes more justice for the books because they speak sweden. also the places are real. but who knows? maybe this american version is good too? and you are right, the books are brilliant and people should read them!
@legallyinsane456 sorry, typing error. It just that where I'm from Noomi, isn't a common name so when I was typing you kind of just go to the most common name in your vocabulary. It is weird that Rooney and Noomi both have double oos in the first name. Sorry about that. Not disrespect to the actress.
It was the most awkward two and a half hour movie I ever watched with my boyfriend, but the insanity in me enjoyed it!

Any david fincher film is a masterpiece and so are his trailers!

Is that a condensed version of the "Millenium" trilogy? I heard this was a good ones... might go back to the originals first..

hey next they should make a game based on this movie and the debate should be which is better the xbox 360 version or the ps3 version, sorry couldn't resist
foxhound20071980 2 months ago
for all the people complaining how these films will be terrible, please come back on after you have watched them and apologise.....Fincher is a class act and will prove it...

I just wanna watch it because david fincher is the director.

why doesn't anyone admire the beauty of the books instead of wasting time debating over movies that originate from the books themselves? without the beauty of the story, there wouldnt even be a movie.

we appreciate the beauty of the story. that is why we debate about the movies so much. we want the movies to do the books justice.

I'm going to watch it just so I can make fun of pseudo-feminists who idolize her because she hates men.
ffffuuful 2 months ago
@ffffuuful she hates men who hate women. men who do evil things to women bc of there hatred
fleurgi 2 months ago
@ffffuuful
Don't make a blase judgement of something you didn't even read.

i suspect that this movie being made has zero to do with 'americans' inability to read subtitles' and everything to do with david fincher's and (rooney mara's!!!) incredible talent.
ashturtle92 2 months ago 57
@ashturtle92 Not mutually exclusive....
lauro0carrillo 1 month ago
@ashturtle92 Agreed. Too many people fail too recognize that and immediately write this movie off as a dumbed down American remake.
twotonguestalking713 1 month ago
it is so upsetting to see all these comments about how the original was better or hollywood is just making money off remakes etc. david fincher is Not Hollywood. this will be original, dark and exciting, like the books. it is not a *remake* of the swedish movie, it is david fincher taking the book and creating a movie with his vision of it. if people judged this trailer on it's own most would say that it is fucking badass! stop being close-minded and realise this is going to be incredible.

One of the best Teaser's I've ever seen
firerules736 2 months ago 2
I am so excited to see this movie. Not because of the books, or the previous versions, or the actors/actresses... but because it appears to be aesthetically stunning and has an intriguingly dark storyline that will make this film stand out on its own accord. I just hope I can say that after I see it :]

@ariadneluvzpurple Noomi not Naomi.
Everything unlistedmuse17 said is spot on.
Good luck beating original, Hollywood!

@utubesqueeze well they came fucking close this movie was awesome man!
skate4975 2 months ago
@utubesqueeze They don't need luck. THEY DESTROYED THE ORIGINAL in every way possible. I watched the original right before going to the new one, no comparison in my opinion, i STILL cant stop thinking about it, I'm a BIG movie person but will never defend other movies i like, cause i don't care what people say or think, EXCEPT for this one!! SUCH an amazing movie, everyone whose interested in the books or the older film needs to go see the new one Mara, Fincher, and Craig R AMAZING!

@unlistedmuse17 Naomi is not even her name..........
legallyinsane456 2 months ago
@legallyinsane456 sorry, typing error. It just that where I'm from Noomi, isn't a common name so when I was typing you kind of just go to the most common name in your vocabulary. It is weird that Rooney and Noomi both have double oos in the first name. Sorry about that. Not disrespect to the actress.
