What a Historic Treasure this clip is. I never knew there was any sound film footage at all of the original 1927 production of "Showboat". This rare clip is a Priceless Gem. Thank you for sharing it.
I'm pretty sure I heard this song in the 1989 Royal Shakespeare Company/Opera North production. I remember Queenie singing and dancing in a 1920s dress.
Why wasn't this reedited back to the first film version of show boat Only the audio track was used as the entr acte as if the film elements were lost I had a hunch that this prolog wasn't lost
I think it might be the bit after this ("You Are Love" reprise) that covers the scene change. But anyway, I think this song does have a purpose, to show how things have changed over the years - showing the changes in fashion, popular music styles, and the attitudes about women, so Queenie can sing a song encouraging women to be forward with men, something that would never have been encouraged in the period when the show begins.

Great stuff - always loved this song, which appears as an instrumental in the opening of the 1951 version.
Thanks also for the extensive notes - hopefully we'll see this film on DVD soon!
