  • What a Historic Treasure this clip is. I never knew there was any sound film footage at all of the original 1927 production of "Showboat". This rare clip is a Priceless Gem. Thank you for sharing it.

  • I'm pretty sure I heard this song in the 1989 Royal Shakespeare Company/Opera North production. I remember Queenie singing and dancing in a 1920s dress.

  • Why wasn't this reedited back to the first film version of show boat Only the audio track was used as the entr acte as if the film elements were lost I had a hunch that this prolog wasn't lost

  • I think it might be the bit after this ("You Are Love" reprise) that covers the scene change. But anyway, I think this song does have a purpose, to show how things have changed over the years - showing the changes in fashion, popular music styles, and the attitudes about women, so Queenie can sing a song encouraging women to be forward with men, something that would never have been encouraged in the period when the show begins.

  • Great stuff - always loved this song, which appears as an instrumental in the opening of the 1951 version.

Thanks also for the extensive notes - hopefully we'll see this film on DVD soon!
