In 1997 the British handed HK back to China, so technically speaking HK IS part of China now. I think that's how most of the Chinese are. They talk loud and are very feisty even when it comes to the most civilized ones. I remembered when my grandpa took me to a Chinese cafe in a Chinatown when I was a kid. The gates for international flights often close long before the scheduled departure, so she was very late. What I don't get is her hysteria! Imagine what she is like at home when she doesn't get what she wants. She should have acted calmly and tried to resolve the situation with the airlines, by taking a later flight, for example. Hong Kong people, have a life. Why do we have to be at the gate 15-30 minutes before the departure. When I was in the U.S., I always arrived at the gate 2 minutes before the departure, and I was always able to board onto the flight.

I feel you Nolia. I understand that there are people with illness in their middle age. Therefore discriminating them is not right. However, it's quite common nowadays seeing mainland Chinese people being rude in public. I have seen a lot and it's a social problem in Hong Kong. When you go to China and take public transportation, you will notice a lot of middle age people in general are rude, talking very loud and not realizing their problems causing to others, though younger ppl are better.

I think that's how most of the Chinese are. They talk loud and are very feisty even when it comes to the most civilized ones. I remembered when my grandpa took me to a Chinese cafe in a Chinatown when I was a kid. He started yelling once he saw his buddies coming from a mile or two away and where he started yelling was in front of a Chinese temple and I always got those stares from people of different race. Those people thought my grandpa had some kind of genetic disorder all of a sudden. LOL!

The gates for international flights often close long before the scheduled departure, so she was very late. What I don't get is her hysteria! Imagine what she is like at home when she doesn't get what she wants. She should have acted calmly and tried to resolve the situation with the airlines, by taking a later flight, for example. Now her tantrum has been plastered all over the Internet for the whole world to see-- a huge embarrassment. Hopefully, it might teach her a lesson on how to behave!

There's a fair bit of social justice work and groups organizing awareness of rape and war in the Congo. And if camera phones would solve their socio economic problems, I'm skeptical that people would donate. I find people, including myself I admit, find it easier to judge others than solve problems.

I think Cathay Pacific is responsible for her situation too. For people who have lived outside Hong Kong, it's a common practice to arrive at the gate before the departure time (when the flight actually departs from the gate), not 15-30 minutes earlier.
Hong Kong people, have a life. Why do we have to be at the gate 15-30 minutes before the departure. When I was in the U.S., I always arrived at the gate 2 minutes before the departure, and I was always able to board onto the flight.

I think the Airline staffs (because I heard she kept repeating: 機都未走/ 閘都未閂/ 唔人道) had made this lady felt that the situation and the conditions of terms wasn't acceptable. It is very important in which way and attitude to explain ackward situations to the passengers to prevent huge panic from such unexpected circumstance.
This is just my own opinion.

Any comments about this lady's berserk behavior shouldn't put all the blame on her. This is also the responsibility of her family. This lady might have early symptoms of Alzheimer disease. However, this still can't forgive their ignorant of being late at the gate. The people from the check-in counter should have remind them to be at the gate 30mins before departure.

I don't like that people are calling her names like bitch, crazy and laughing saying she is an idiot trying to blame where she came from. She looks like maybe she's late 50's - 60's, where dementia can be an early onset. I'm not a doctor, but and overreaction like that in an older person is most likely illness. My mother works with seniors and she sees this daily.

I feel you Nolia. I understand that there are people with illness in their middle age. Therefore discriminating them is not right. However, it's quite common nowadays seeing mainland Chinese people being rude in public. I have seen a lot and it's a social problem in Hong Kong. When you go to China and take public transportation, you will notice a lot of middle age people in general are rude, talking very loud and not realizing their problems causing to others, though younger ppl are better.

I agree with you, it's just that if you listen carefully, it doesn't sound like a simple tantrum, she's hyperventilating. I have seen angry asian women being rude by hitting people with their bags or saying crude things, her tone and the language is that of desperation which convinces me more that she is not well. I'm sure if her family knew she was always like this (throwing tantrums) they wouldn't be taking her out to travel much.
