Oh crap I remember this! My mom was making grilled cheese and we were listening to the police scanner, and they said that they saw a funnel cloud heading tord us.
The sky looked gray and bright, and then it all the sudden turned pitch black and rain started pouring! Oh crap how scary it was!
OMG!! Scarey but yet very awesome to see. I am surprised the tree didn't catch fire. Where in Machesney was this and when? I grew up in Loves Park on Park Ridge Rd at the end of Pennsylvania Rd. I moved from Rockford area 10 months ago.
That is what happens when open wire secondary begins slapping together. It's actually not that uncommon. Call the power company. If you begin seeing aliens then you shouldn't eat any more of the shellfish you cooked two weeks ago.
interesting. thanks for posting.

im not sure but doesnt it look like the 2 street light are sort of shooting the little explosion things back and forth?
although its hard to see but if that is the case it may be due to electrode indifference
common to some power sources after a large electrical shock

Wow, pretty cool, looks like a couple of transformers arcing over wet lines.
The vertical light lines are probably a lens artifact from the bright light.
