I use Olympic Judo in contrast with Kodokan Judo. It's well known in respectable Judo circles that the IJF in trying to "promote" a "more spectacular" Judo followed a path detrimental to the values of the art. Okano himself is a vocal antagonist of the kind of Judo promoted by the IJF. Paradoxically, Judo didn't improve his popularity as what the IJF did simply couldn't work out and they are now trying to remedy the situation. Judo's declining newaza is just an effect of IJF's bad choices.
What do this have to do with my arguments? You tell me what about the Worlds and what about the French Nationals... Do I have to mention everysingle Judo competition out there? Even those that you mention are much the same as the Olympics, as they are run by the IJF of national bodies that agree with the IJF. We would better be mentioning The All Japan Championships where Judo is still Judo, but you fail to notice. Oh! I forgot, you're always right and respectful as ever!
why is he a newaza god?I dont understand people....there are so many good judo and bjj players through out the history of the ground game to b calling him(Kashiwazaki) the newaza god...I respect the guy for his accomplishment
This is a question you'll have to find the answer for yourself. And Kashiwazaki being praised as a true master of newaza does not preclude others from being praised so too! He is at the end of a line of great newaza masters and showed the world his skills at the highest level of competition, making his newaza work against top opposition consistently. He also authored books and tapes on newaza that are considered to be among the best on the subject. Everyone that meets him comes back amazed!
Do you really believe in what you said? Last Olympic's newaza was specially laughable, as more and more the IJF tells their referees a wrong interpretation of progress in newaza, and the less we see newaza. Kashiwazaki in this video is doing what current elite-level don't know anymore (exceptions: Fallon, Canto, Ishii). And he makes it look easy and basic, but only to the untrained eye (maybe your case). It's hard to see this level of control even in current elite level BJJ!!!
Yes, Newaza should be kept at the basics, just like Roger Gracie does to great success even at the elite level of BJJ: he just do the basic stuff. But you need complete mastery to do the basics and succeed at their level of competition... Now when you say Satoshi Ishii newaza is nothing special that means you don't know him, didn't watch him fighting enough in newaza, nor rolling in a BJJ academy, etc. He is very good, believe me! And no, this level of newaza didn't happen in the last Olympics
You're right, I have been doing Judo and BJJ for 12 years, 5 days a week, and I still think I haven't seen enough practice... Judo learning never ends! It is a lifetime process.
Kashiwazaki hairi kata is based in obi-tori-gaeshi but this is not common in the elite scenario. Only a master like him could pull these techniques at this level and don't end up in the receiving end of osaekomi.
In the end I think we say almost the same thing: it is basic, but to make it work you have to be a master.
I thought you really was well meant. Now you proved to be a mean person, and your understanding of Judo is very little, or nil, as you do not apply it outside the dojo. You should seriously think what Judo is: it's a pedagogical system and applies to everything in life, and you don't even get it, how can you lecture me on what I know about it if I clearly surpass your petty understanding of Judo? My sensei is George K. Mehdi. Search on the web or better yet ask sensei Okano Isao about him.
I also welcome you, even in my home, to come to Brazil and to learn what newaza is all about. I would like to see you trying to get this "dominant" grip against me in a newaza randori, I would love to be proven wrong that this is only basic stuff and everyone (even you) can do it properly! I think you would be amazed at how helpless you would be against any dan holder at my dojo, and I would also like to bring you to my BJJ academy for a little enlightening!
You are fully correct! My dojo is really a place with only beginners like myself... We would like very much to have you enlightening our practice with your experience... Why don't you go find sensei Isao Okano and aks his opinion about my sense George K. Mehdi instead of just providing Ad homimen fallacies to prove your weak point?
Its nice to see that you are simply wrong... Why you smell a BJJ troll in me when in fact I am a Judoka? You call yourself a Nidan and surprisingly you display less knowledge than me a mere Shodan formed by the most respected sensei in Brazil, who is in fact considered by Isao Okano himself as his brother (they lived together when both attended university), my sensei also trained under Masahiko Kimura. I'm not a BJJ black belt (yet)...
Yes childish Lender, you have been trolled!!! BTW you always amazes me at how much you know about Judo... You are in now way near-sighted... You're just a child, with lack of knowledge... When you grow up, we can talk more. Let's keep comments, from now on, onto the subject of the video.
I hate to sound redundant, but like I said, I would not need any sensei names, like you apprarently do, to support my points.
It seems that it is you who havs not matured in "Judo Age".
What this video shows is that Kashiwazaki was a very well-rounded player, which can clearly been seen in the dominant grip. And it is no way easy to maintain that kind of grip. Gripping is half the battle. His movements after tht are just basic.
What comments like yours clearly show that in BJJ matches turnovers like Obitori gaeshi are less common than in Judo. BJJers are not used to this kind of mechanics, if you know what I mean.
Judoka are the best in this kind of tomoanage-like moemvent, which Kashiwazaki was also VERY famous for.
I, personally, almost never buttflop.... buttflop is not the same as working from the bottom, it is an untechnical guard pulling, and ridiculous bottom technique... BJJ has a LOT different turnovers from the bottom... Try to defend against the X-guard... That's why Kashiwazaki sensei mastery of obi-tori-gaeshi-like turnovers is amazing while still looking basic... do some homework before posting, it will be good for you.
obitori-gaeshi mechanics have nothing to do with tomoe-nage... also, this kind of turnover overly exposes your back, it is not difficult to get the back of one doing this turnover, it is just that in Judo getting the back does not score, and is easily stalled to matte... different rules, different tactics.
Lender, you're a disgrace to Judo! I let you eat my bait and you did. Obi-tori-gaeshi is no more, it is included in Hikikomi-gaeshi. Allright, nomenclature aside, the mechanics are completely different. saying they're are almost the same is the same as comparing o-guruma with harai-goshi, or uchi-mata with hane-goshi, it shows you are a terrible, really terrible Judoka... I very much doubt you are even shodan. You're just a child.
Hey, why don't you just put some videos of yourself? You seem to talk very little about Judo, and keep forgetting you were the one trying to pull rank first... The one presenting laughable arguments,,, ad nauseum. You were the one asking for my background on Judo, then just saying I was relying on my masters to prove my point... You are the real Troll... Grow up.
1) What Kashiwazaki shows on this video only impresses guys who are not judoka(e,g.you)
2) People who cry "olympic judo" are not true practitoners, since they don't realiza competiion is only a FRACTION of what Judo has to offer
3) Judoka are proud of what they have learned, or did learn and pretty much rely on their OWN experience to present arguments, while YOU, a amateur journalist, seem to have to depend on big names.
When Judoka argue, they never say tihngs like, "you are wrong since Okano does not say so/" or "I am right I learned form this sensei or that" They, or we for that matter, pretty much are proud of what they(or we) have learned.
You don't do that, and that only proves that you are just a spectator, or only in the beginning stage of your Judo carrer.
i do realize that you love watching judo, though, but that is not the point here.
ad nauseum... just like an old, scracthed LP... boring arguments won't make you win this discussion... you know very little of Judo or else you would be at least respectful with your answers... You're a child, and I really doubt you do Judo for real, as you don't know the nomenclature, nor the mechanics of many throws, and refrain from posting yourself doing Judo... You are a Keyboard hero, just that.
Loudmouth, My bullshit detector worked right when I read your comments. Most Judo guys are nice and they leave guys like you alone. And if you doubt my credentials(lol), go ahead and ask questions about Judo here. I am an honest guy and I will tell only what i know. My strengths !) Ippon seoi 2) Sumi gaeshi 3)Ude garami 4)Ouchi gari 5)Grip fighting 6)Pins in general. BTW, I am awful at uchimata. See, I am an honest guy, lol
I can't stop laughting when you used words like "You are a disgrace to Judo"
Maybe it did not convey what you wanted to say, but (chuckle)...
Let me tell you, in the entire history of Judo, most Judoka have always been rebels and those guys helped develop the art itself and beget other styles.
Judo is too big to be influenced by anonymous comments on YouTube.
So dont you worry about that kind of stuff, son(lol).
do you have some Ishii's newaza videos?Ishii is good but he wasnt the top,or the only newaza players within the japanese's team....Inoue,Izumi,Yasaki,Suzuki,etc are very good too...
good gi grappler, but to say he's beyond the state of the art of brazilian jiu-jitsu is, well, simply an exposition of ignorance to the state of the art of bjj.
beautiful ne waza, but i'd put my money on pe de pano, riberio, braga, tera, roger gracia, neto, morias, etc in a pure ground game.
simple matter of putting in more time toward the same goals.
i imagine kashiwazaki in his prime would have an easy time throwing them, though. : )
But then there's the 2nd fight, and Royce obliterated Yoshida!!! :-) Anyway, Fedor is the LAST EMPEROR, and he is a Judoka! But I don't hate BJJ, and I hope to get my BJJ black belt in 2 years... It will be nice to be a black belt in Judo and BJJ, does this makes me a Shodan * 2???
i repeat: each one. u guys have no idea wat is beyond the techniques, what power he had. he would go through the gracies like a heated knife through butter
man that second turnover takes balls. There is that brief period during the transition that the other guy could make the adjustment. But its to exotic, hes probably never seen it. Truly a master of groundwork.
Met him once. Really humble. Amazing. Faced off in keiko against a HUGE African American guy - a real tank - 184c 125+ kilos - shorinji kempo dude. K sensei slipped the guy's hand defenses to the side, ran up his thigh, leapt behind him, pulled out his own Gi top and ... zap, round his neck and choked him out.

Troll,
As I see it, there is not much difference between the Kodokan rules and the IJF rules.
Moreover, under the IJF rules pin times are shorter, which would help guys who are good at newaza.
And lol at you referring to Okano over and over again.
I would not need any authorities help to support my point like you would.
LenderSender 2 years ago
I am from old school and I never competed under the IJF rules but I almost have not seen anything so bad about those IJF rules.
It is simply the referees that quite often look terrible in matches.
You do truly sound like a journalist because you have been talking about Judo from a compettive point of view.
There is no matte in training.

People,
loudviewer is just a journalist, and a very bad one.

Faloon is ok and canto is amazing Ishi is good aswell
khaledonia 3 years ago
I will tell you again,
It IS basic newaza, just executing obitori-gaeshi.
You should stick to the basics in newaza and that is exactly what Kashiwazaki did.
That said, I do know that BJJers are terrible at this kind of movement, which just means they are lacking in basics.
And there was nothing special about Ishii's newaza.
LenderSender 2 years ago

Then I must say you have not seen enough Judo practice, have you?
What Kashiwazaki showed on this video happens ALL THE TIME in Judo training.
Ishii's newaza is just basic, and there is nothing special about it, which no way means he is not strong.
LenderSender 2 years ago
Again, what Kashiwazaki did was just a obitori-gaeshi turnover.
We use it all the time in Judo.
LenderSender(a nidan)

He got a dominant grip, and that was half the battle.
LenderSender 2 years ago
So you should be more impressed with how he got that dominant a grip in the first place, and that is not a newaza skill.
In a way it is, but this just shows Kashiwazaki is a well-rounded player.
If you would like to be excited solely about his newaza skills, you should bring up other videos.
