  • @LeroyRifkin lmao

  • I think many people's opinions on michael Clarke or any 'polarising' type of athlete are based on what the daily telegraph tells them to think... I never had him as my favourite, but give him credit for his 329.. Still think that this moment, apart from a few Warnie triumphs and Andrew Symonds streaker shoulder charge, is the greatest moment in Australian cricket history that I've witnessed.

  • Steve Waugh = Greatest Captain in Cricket History

  • i remember i was about 11 and me and my mates were at my house all day either watching the game or in the backyard playing cricket. However when it got to about 6 30, we were all there to watch on tv this moment. We all went nuts hugging each other. Still my favourite Australian cricket moment. Just the applause the crowd gave him sends shivers down the spine. Every person in that stadium respected Steve Waugh and everyone at home too

  • one of the best ever

  • Steve Waugh was Australia's last great and passionate Australian Cricket captain. He played the game hard and expected his team mates around to do the same. Off the field, a very well liked and nice person. Thanks for the memories Steve.

    Aussie aussie aussie

  • @TrangulumAustrale that's unfair on ricky ponting, he gives his all every game to australia and is an excellent player to this day. I agree with you on clarke because not only is he a worse batter than ponting and waugh but also not even the most experienced on the team, ponting is still the captain it seems and hussey is pretty much the most respected

  • @SeanMDolan It's not unfair, its fact. S. Waugh was extremely passionate player for australia. I didn't mention Ponting at all. But i do believe S. Waugh was the last of that lot of aussie cricketers that played the game hard and passionate.

To your question about Ponting, i am actually one of his fans, and i am sure he gives his all for the team. I just personally believe Waugh did it better.

again i don't think i mentioned Clarke either LMAO

  • @TrangulumAustrale your right no you didnt directly mention them but we all know they are the only 2 captains after him so in reality you did mention them

  • @SeanMDolan again you assume way to much and don't speak of facts. all i was saying steve waugh was very passionate and a great leader. this is a tribute video to waugh if you didn't noticed.

  • @TrangulumAustrale Fact you said this "Steve Waugh was Australia's last great and passionate Australian Cricket captain". I copied and pasted that so this proves my point right, check mate. So really my response was justified, and i know this was a tribute to Waugh but you were pretty much saying ponting and clarke are not great and passionate.

  • @SeanMDolan dude are u on drugs ? just drop it! Check out Mega's? comment, even he/she agrees, Steve Waugh was Australia best leader of a cricket team. and i agree. Ponting was a great leader too, but doesn't come close to Waugh's leadership.

we both had our opinions. enough

  • @TrangulumAustrale yes i'm on drugs because i don't agree with you, great logic. A question tho, how do you measure leadership. Runs? You can't in other words it's totally subjective, and yes i will leave you alone, but all i was saying is that ponting is a much better captain than many give him credit for, he has captained a worse team than waugh and done well also he had a greater average than Waugh so that's why i got felt i had to reply, peace out.

  • @SeanMDolan just some fast facts for you: I have always supported ponting when so many in Aust have bagged him, and i have always supported Clarke when it seems 98% of aussies put him down. But i still believe Waugh was an exceptional leader and most agree. kudos to u if feel ponting was the best leader, i respect everyones opinions. personally i justfeel Waugh was the best. peace to u too.

  • @TrangulumAustrale haha well looks like everyone will pretend they always loved clarke now, 329 n.o ;)

  • Definitely one of those moments... "I remember where I was when Steve Waugh got his hundred off the last ball.." I still remember being on summer holidays as a kid, I had watched his whole innings with my nan, both of us wanting him to do well. When he hit that four, my nan and I were dancing up and down the house, shouting and screaming with joy!

  • Haters will hate and statistics will tell stats this blokes a superstar cricketer and a legend of a person.

  • bill lawry's commentary is so much better of this

  • Steve Waugh is a lovely person :)

  • it was Waugh-fare

  • This was Steve Waugh's .......29th Test Hundred.

  • one of my all time favourite cricketers, and the gritiest of them all, the one the only the legendary steve waugh...

  • 1:17 bowling speed 79.0 mph?

  • I'm just going to throw it out there, but who ever writes the scripts for the Australian cricket team does one hell of a job.

  • I loved that moment!Brought tears to my eyes!Thumbs up if u've had tears! :.)

  • When was this 8-9 years ago? i remember watching this when i was 9 years old! Steve Waugh and Rahul Dravid are two of the biggest inspirations in my life!

  • Does it get much better? Goosebumps!

  • As an Englishman I always wanted Waugh out early or I knew we were in for a tough day.. Total and utter respect for the way he played cricket. Australia simply don't his fighting spirit anymore. I always though Mark Waugh was technically the better player but Steve showed how important courage is.

  • What a beautiful stroke for his hundred.

  • Good Stuff, Waugh.

Historically Aussies always perfom when under pressure, Ricky Pointing's recent hundred is a good example. Steve Waugh was a great player for such a long time.

  • Good Stuff, Waugh.

  • Flash was there!!

  • He displayed his destructive power with such grace.

  • The 6 people that disliked this video can go f*ck themselves. Respect a true great of the game.

  • Champion player

  • If dis was day 5 it would've been the most epic 4 ever hit in test history B)

  • I remember I was working in a packed bar that day, everyone's eyes were on the TV, the whole pub erupted just as the SCG did. It's one of those "I was in this place when this happened" moments!:)

  • ture legend and one off the best ever i bet you aussies wish he was still playing

  • steve Australia"s finest cricketer

  • one of the best innings ive ever seen, great character from a true legend

  • Ponting is one hell of a captain and Batsman...This is coming form an indian......Now the aussie team is so shit that no one can make them win..To win you need quality players which australia lacks now...

Ponting is very aggressive and arrogant sometimes but he is one the best batsmen in the world...

  • @RABicle Ponting was a great a batsman as long as he wasn't captain, some people just don't have the temperament, also steve waugh was fortunate enough to have world class players in the team and ponting was unfortunate to lose mcgrath, warne, langer, mark waugh, martyn (or symonds), hayden, gilchrist.....of course it must be hell of a pressure on ponting when all of a sudden majority of your match winners retire

  • This was on 2003 right? How fast time goes.. I remember watching this with my uncle and cousin, when he got his 100, we went crazy.. great moment.

  • RIPPING..!

  • Steve Waugh is a great egg.

  • remember watching this on tv as a kid with my 80 year old grandparents... even they got out of their chairs and started cheering!! what a moment in australian sport

  • Bradman may have been Australia's greatest batsman, but Steve Waugh was, and forever will be, Australia's greatest captain.

  • Comment removed

  • I was there!! most amazing day of any sport I've ever been to. I was 13. I went knowing there was fair chance I'd see him bat that day but I never expected anything like this. Like they said, it just felt like it was written to a script.

This was also the day he passed 10,000 Test runs. By the time it finished it was about 7 o'clock and we didn't know if they were still showing it live on TV. But with Kerry Packer around of course they were.

  • So whats the rush ,,, he could have scored that on the next day...!!! was it the last Day????

  • @94Raza it was a better emotional feeling to finish it that day, he'd put all the effort in that day, and it wouldn't have been the same having to come back the next day

  • @CHUNDERTHUNDER99 And also against the old enemies .......the BRITS!!!! I just love it when they get whacked all over the park.....especially when The Aussies beat them!!!!

  • @94Raza ha! yeah us pomms

  • The hair stands up the cold shivers flood thru as the legend makes another ton.... Ya just cant keep a good man down.. ONYA Steve!!!

  • I almost left the ground to beat the traffic - came back and saw the last over, cheered like a madman...........then sprinted to the car so we could get away.

  • I grew up a little late, I remember watching Ricky become star of the Aussie side, two of the best cricketers back to back. If only I was a few years younger.

  • Steven Waugh is a fucking true Aussie legend and cricketing champion if you are foreign or dont like him i dont give a fuck

  • @crabfancer Everybody loves Steve Waugh. It is true that we don't think well of most Australian players, but Steve Waugh is an exception.

  • @crabfancer Fucken well said bro. Go the Aussies!!!!

  • was it day 5?

Wonder what Hossain said to the bowler...

  • @XPil3s Definitely not day 5 as it was in Australia's first innings - I think it was day 2.

  • @ItchyMrBoy then what's the rush man!

  • thats one of the moments that makes ur heart swell, even if u dont watch the cricket. a moment that unifies the nation!

  • Someone asked me difference between Steve Waugh and Ponting..

Steve- Great Batsman (under pressure esp), Great Captain (1999WC), Great human

Ponting- Great Batsman , Good but lucky captain(with all stars in his team),

But unfortunately he does not seem a good human with all the cheating attributed to him..

  • I still remember that morning in Pakistan , I was thinking he will do it for his crowed because i know him he is the man of nerves. Wen he made it , i thought he is a true entertainer for Australian crowed .... One of my most favorite captain he was ...

  • What a wonderful moment. A legend innings from a legend of a man.

    My favourite sporting moment ever

  • ah one of the most historic momentsin cricket!!! this match is remembered for this moment, and not the fact australia lost this match...

  • Steve was not only a great cricketer, he was a great person and even today.

  • @lastmanstandingist and he makes good ads ; )

  • @lastmanstandingist

WHAT? he has absolutely no personality,he was very suspect to short pitch bowling, and his captaincy lacked the ability to control his players

  • @heathirving You sir are a dumbass.

  • I can't believe they named the new stand at the SCG the 'Victor Trumper Stand', no disrespect to his memory but Steve Waugh is the most significant Sydney born captain of recent years. He is one of the favourite sons of the SCG and deserved the accolade. Let's rename the new stand the 'Steve Waugh Stand' with a TAB for Mark. They renamed the Pat Hills stand, it became Bill O'Reilly, so it is not without precedent.

  • wow!! thats cool

  • Amazing moment, brings a tear to my eye as well.

For all the international people, the reason it was so special was because Steve was so out of form and the media were on a frenzy trying to get rid of him, and we've had many great players who have been forced out. If he didn't perform that day maybe it would've been his last test. Massive home crowd going crazy, hundred off the last ball of the day and seeing the emotion from everyone is what made it such a great moment. We even lost the game.

  • @C3ltics24

I don't think he was that out of form, had some bad breaks in that series. Look at his average during his last year playing. It went over 50 rather than down.

  • It has nothing to do with what he averaged in his last year, he obviously had a great end to his career. But prior to this knock, his average for the entire year was 30, and that sent the media into a frenzy, as we all know when you're old and not performing, the media goes into overdrive asking for youe exit, ask matty hayden. He may have had some bad luck in the series..

  • But he also had some failures mixed in with the moderate scores, and had that horrible innings in Melbourne against Harmison where he was out caught behind and didn't walk, then next ball he was caught off a no ball (i think) then was out shortly after. That really didn't help his cause. But was great for him to come back the way he did!

  • the media did it to mark waugh, my favourite batsmen of all time

  • I remember watching the game, really wanting Steve to get his ton. I felt the media were unfair on him. He had been a good performer for so long and I think people forget that he is one of the top runscorers of all time...

So when he did score the ton, I yelled out loud in my room and was absolutely rapt.

I loved this era of cricket.

  • @C3ltics24 Hey man i am from india... and i am aware what great things Steve waugh has done here in india...

Can you tell me what is it for u guys in Australia... how is he treated there...

  • @satishsatishiyer

He keeps a pretty low profile nowadays you don't see much of him but possibly the most respected ex-cricketer going around. Did you know both he and his brother were excellent soccer/footballers as well and they both could have been international players had they pursued soccer.

  • @Carrots44 his brother in mark or the other one?

  • @chrisapples1234 Both brothers mate, I read Robbie Slater's biography (a famous Australian footballer) and he said he used to play with them and even had a team pic of them altogether playing Aussie under 14s or something like that.

  • fantastic

  • this moment will always bring a tear to your eye. I'm not Australian but I will forever love Steve Waugh for his attitude for cricket and his style of captaincy

  • that was day one of the test, i went to day 2 to see if he could carry on with his 100, i think he got out in the very first over

  • Haha exact same, was so disappointed

  • Me too, I was so excited that morning to see him go on with it, but no - still a great moment in test cricket. One dayers or 20 /20 will NEVER capture this intensity and emotion.

  • @leighroypaddy73 They will, on occasion, but aye, let's salute a fantastic career from a fantastic player.

  • i left the ground half an hour before that! it was supposed to be stumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you think it's possible the bowler gave him an easy one?

  • He's English and he was bowling to an Australian. So, no.

  • lol yeah youre right

  • get ton mate again Gilly proves himself not to be a bastard and a great batter they both are miss you gilly!!

  • come back steve

  • What an amazing day. I got goosebumps from watching that. Steve was my favourite player as a youngster and it was an incredible knock to see, considering how the media were attacking him like wild dogs at the time.... It's a sporting memory I'll never forget.

Steve was a true champion of the game.

  • I read about this in the Adam Gilchrist book true colors and now to watch it...amazing and gilly said he ended up making 140 or something but he said it wasn't the century to remember this one was.

  • ah, this was so good i think i almost shed a tear when watching it live. :) waugh was such an assuming but nice guy, i have to say i much preferred him to ponting. hopefully our next captain will restore some respect to aus in the cricket world.

  • ponting got 2 world cups...and probably going to win icc champions trophy 2009

  • And the best part is that Steve Waugh wasn't blessed with immense natural talent as his brother, Lara or Sachin. He had to work on it, overcome his flaws and emerge as a great batsman.

That's what I like about such players. You can coach a youngster to become a S.Waugh, a Dravid or a Chanderpaul... But you have to be born a Tendulkar or a Lara.

Great players all of them, but Waugh is an inspiration to show that someone reasonably gifted can be great as well....

    {Contd.}...

  • ..{contd.}..

As a captain, he was inspirational (remember WC 99' super-6 vs SA and semi-final vs the same team) and innovative.

One of the finest man-managers, he was responsible for the super-successful side that Ponting inherited.

As a man, he is the most selfless and altruistic person you can hope to see. I am an Indian and I've been to Udayan in Kolkata and the work that Steve and Lynette have done is staggering.

I think Steve Waugh is a great role model for any youngster!

  • The best man to hold a cricket bat that I've seen. As a 22 yr-old, it's a pity that I could never see Gavaskar, Viv Richards, Sobers, Greg Chappell, Gower, Miandad and Graeme Pollock in action.

But of all players I've seen, including the legendary Tendulkar and Lara, IMHO Steve Waugh takes the cake. He may not have the flair and flamboyance of the 2 masters, but for sheer grit and mental toughness, Waugh is THE FINEST test batsman I've seen. He is IRREPLACEABLE for world cricket!

  • I remember watching this....I was in the first year of college and had to rush for a lecture when this was on...but waited till the last over and then when it happened was really happy that I waited...steve was and will always remain a champion!

  • This was such a great moment, still remember the shot he played to get to his 100. The Nine News was delayed, with a message that the news will come on when Steve Waugh made his 100 or the day ended!

When Gilchrist ran that single, the cheer that went up must have been the loudest ever for a single run.

  • but glenn mcgrath took a wicket

    with his last ball

    in his last series

    on his home ground

    in the ashes

but there's no youtube video for him that's been viewed 70,000 times

    he was a champion too

  • A ODI - even Australians don't rate it as much as for tests.

When Warney took his 700th, and bowled Panesar for the win - that was pretty memorable. More memorable than Glenn's wicket. Warney bowled beautifully in the Ashes before, and finished England off in Perth. OH YES!

But truthfully, of all Australians, I think we all miss Steve the most. The crowds would cheer wildly for him. What a story he had. First century 15 or 20 test matches into his career. A real Aussie battler.

  • what is the big deal about this? an out-of-form champion batsman reaches a century with the last ball of the day?

    haven't stranger things happened?

  • Australia's favourite son, in probably his last test series (which it was not), when australia is in big trouble, at his home ground, on the last ball of the day, after Gilchrist does brilliantly to get a single.

And it's the Ashes - and we are seeing in the last few days how difficult it should be to win it.

And if you think about history most scripts have gone wrong. Bradman = duck. Border, Healy, Taylor = dumped. Australia hasn't had anything like this for a champ.. ever?

  • I duno hey. I remember watching it, it was just so exciting. Australia's favourite captain, there was talk it was his last test and everything... purely amazing stuff.

  • I clicket awesome number 100 :)

  • What I like about English team is that they are good sports when they lose.

  • They sure get enough practice.

  • Us Aussies might be losing alot soon.

  • Haha. Which is alot. :D

  • Greatest Australian of the last 15 years.

  • don bradman

    sachin tendular...

    STEVE WAUGH

grown up watchin his game.......my dad told me to follow sir garfirld sobers or STEVE WAUGH...........i chose the latter.

m now in the mumbai under 19 squad.

    steves the best

  • As an England supporter, I salute a true great. What a player.

  • Good one, son.

You couldn't have picked a better champion!

  • That ball had a speed of 79mph little bit faster for spinner huh....

  • absolute legend, we love you Steve Waugh!

  • 6:45 in the arvo, a cricket legend gets what he deserves. awesome footage.

  • amazing btsmen

  • great inspiration

  • Was this his last game at SCG?

  • no it wasnt

  • one of the best batsman ever i would have 2 say

  • One of those moments that go down in history, and if you're lucky enough to watch it live on TV - or even luckier enough to be there at the ground watching it, you'll never forget it

  • Steve Waugh u bloody LEGEND

  • I bet if you asked him [Gilchrist] he would say this was one of his favourite cricketing moments giving his captain the opportunity to be a hero.

  • I was at this game and the atmosphere was so in credible not a person was in there seat. It took nearly 5mins to bowl the last ball..It was the last test he played at his home ground. SCG Great memory Great cricketer.!

  • What rubbish, his last test was played at the SCG against India

  • Yeh was one of those tests were he hadn't been performing all series and the media was calling for him to be dropped.

  • correct this was not his last game it was the season before. This innings was hyped coz there was pressure on his position prior to this innings and he silenced his critics that day

  • Legend.

  • this was his last game too

  • no, his last game was v India where he scored 80 - but it was at the SCG

  • well done Nasser Hussain!!

  • Let me begin by saying that i am a fanatical supporter of the Australian cricket team.

While Ricky Ponting may be a great batsmen, i don't, and it pains me to say this, think he is a very good captain. But Steve Waugh was. He was everything you would want in a captain. Stoic, determined, dedicated and ruthless. I just wish we had and endless supply of blokes like him.

    A deadset Aussie legend!

  • spot on

  • I have this dvd about ricky ponting and adam gilchrists best innigs. Gilly went on to make a hundred odd in this match. I missed waugh all togther. I love cricket now but at this time i hated it. So missed watching a champion through the years.

  • what a legend. australia should find a captain like steve waugh. who made the whole world respect australia. but that dipshit ponting has ruined the image of australia immensly over the last years.

  • I still remember watching this live on tv, it sent a chill up my spine.

  • I watch this and it still sends a chill down my spine.. Wish i was there, would have been awesome =D

  • my dad took my brother on this day! i havent forgiven him hahahaha he said the cheer was the biggest his heard in all his 46 years

  • I did want to rub it in, but the sound of that crowd still stays with me today. I told a journalist walking out of the SCG (the best sporting ground in Australia), that if I was to be struck by a speeding truck on South Dowling St. I would die a happy man.

  • they say the only cheer that rivals that one is kathy freemans 400m gold medal run at the syd olympics.

  • Thankyou very much for uploading this!

There are so many special moments in cricket, yet we hardly ever get to re-live them so it's always great when people like yourself take the time to make these videos available

  • the SCG really is the stadium of dreams...for the AFL, NRL and cricket....and to think that melbournians think the MCG is better, get over urselves........

  • LOL you saying SCG is a better stadium than MCG? you are kidding yourself aren't you? MCG has a capacity more than twice the SCG, there is way more history at the MCG and its not just Melbournians saying its the greatest, its the world cause the MCG is regarded the greatest stadium in the world...take your arrogance and New South Wales cockiness somewhere else

  • well actually that is my point...u melbournians THINK the MCG is better purely because it is larger.....every australian cricketer would love to finish their test careers at the SCG coz it carries more significance...when u talk about the MCG, all u talk about is AFL and nothing else...go figure....

  • why does Sydney have more significance??, Don Bradman didn't rather the SCG did he, he prefered Lord's...and grandest doesn't necessarily mean size, it alo means sumptuous, magnificant and other adjectives, and thats what I meant.

  • Olympics, Commonwealth Games, birthplace of Test cricket, World Cup Qualifiers, Bledisloe Cup - what does the SCG hold now apart from the Sydney Test and a few Swans games?

  • Its still got the history, with the old members stands, the MCG is just a colosseum, SCG will always be my favourite ground to watch cricket at.

  • i agree with the MCG comment. It's too bland now, just two massive halves stuck together, none of the old members stands on the northern side anymore...

  • Yeah totally. Its an awesome ground, but yeah, bland,no history and in my opinion too big to watch cricket at. When its full its got an awesome atmosphere but!

  • The MCG is also the oldest and grandest test venue in the world...You Sydney siders are jelous your city aint as passionate about sports as we are, instead you've got the mardi gras - THATS A SPORTING CITY ALRIGHT!

  • killbot86 is right...the SCG is the oldest and grandest stadium in the world...u dumbass melbournians think that more seats equals better stadium...no it is the history and prestige that determines that...u demolished so much of ur stadium to build more seats that the traditional stands are gone...the SCG still has those classic stands to maintain its unique look....stupid victorians

  • MCG is host to the Boxing Day Test, AFL Grand Final and about its size, doesn't it help whn you host some of the grandest events in the sports? dont make this a VIC v NSW thing cause I'm not tring to do that, its obvious people would rather play sports in MCG than SCG

  • actually u were the one that made it a VIC vs NSW thing, all I said was that it is a fact that many melbournians think the MCG is better coz of the AFL and nothing else and I never said size = grand status, melbournians do if u ask cricketers most would rather play at the SCG instead of the MCG

  • such a brilliant moment.. We are lucky being Australians and Englishman to have such an awesome sporting rivalry as the ashes

  • This was one of Australia's greatest sporting moments. I took a week of school to go to every day of this test, i went home later that night, me my dad and my mate who came along all lost our voices from cheering and singing.

pity, the next day steve got out after only a few overs from memory.

Steve Waugh = Australian Cricketing Legend!!!

  • not the same without bill lawry commentating. Waugh is the toughest batsman ever!

  • all you english CUNTS, get FUCKED.

waugh was one of the best batsman australia has ever FUCKING seen. better than FUCKING flintoff or pieterson, you POMMY CUNTS.

  • JKocheck said:

"waugh was one of the best batsman australia has ever FUCKING seen."

Not just Australia, he was one of the best batsmen this game has ever seen. Better than Tendulkar, Lara, Hayden, Ponting or anyone else among his contemporaries.

  • wasnt this amazing.. I watched this live. My most treasured sporting memory

  • yep, its one of those moments thatll live with us forever

  • the only time before or since(possibly ever)that iv genuinely been delighted at an aussie scoring a century, hopefully everyone down under returns the favour in the case of our ashes win, but somehow doubt it! i hope a live ashes test is played at the SCG before too long what an atmosohere it will be

  • I was at this game. The roar when he got his hundred was the loudest thing I have ever heard.

  • Can't remember how many times steve waugh have save a game that looks like losing and turn them around. I think Australia were gifted with so many great legends playing at the same time.

  • Why don't i remember this Dawson bloke?

Oh yeah, coz, like most other spinners we've had...he sucked.

  • What do you mean ? Phill Tuffnel was a great bowler LMAO and dynamite in the field.

  • Great sportsmanship between the English and the Aussies. You would never get that if the Indians were involved against either team.
