@blakasassin1 no, cursing could be considered pharusavaca, "harsh speech", speech that is not pleasing to the ear, but not false speech. Not good, but not a big deal. Even a sotapanna might still curse, I should think.
@yuttadhammo A Sotapanna, apart from being an imaginary classification, and not really a person (for there is no self), would not curse out loud. But the Impurity would still be present in the heart. Same as Anakami too - as if the fire has gone out, and flames will never rise again, but that the coals are still glowing.. this is not the same as actively cursing people in your heart. Karma comes on 3 levels - manokamma (htinking it) wajikamma (speaking) and kaayakamma (doing it).
Cursing is worse than false speech. When we Curse, we Break the first precept of Panatipaataa on the Mano Kamma level
Even if i do not enact one single action outside of the precepts, but have cursed (cast spells on) another in my heart/mind, then i am killing them just the same, and the unrest which my heart will have when i lay my head on the pillow at night is unescapable.
@thailandamulets and also what you say about Anapanasathi comes from a book, not experience. Anapanasathi 16 IS the 4 Satipathanas, the firts four of 16 levels is Kayanupassana, secound four is Vedhananupassana third 4 are Cittanupassana and fourth 4 levels are Dhammanupassana.. although anapanasathi 16 is one of the many parts of the first sathipathana.. he who pratices it and knows it, knows that it is the four sathipatanas all rolled into one.. Anapanasathi is not a number counting game
@blakasassin1 Ask your heart instead of the academics. You dont need academic rules or tell you how it works. Look into your heart and see.. if you curse others within, do YOU feel that it is false speech?? If you feel good about what you think speak or do, then its ok, if you feel not at peace after thinking speaking or doing something, then it is inauspicious. Karma is as simple as that if you are already conscious of your own pure or impure intentions.
I find that counting of breath is a good test of mindfulness. Sometimes one can sit for a long time just floating in the stream of experience and even not be aware of dullness.
can i give up saying to myself rising, falling and so on when im meditaiting?

I think Ajahn Jayasaro means counting like this : 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1,2,3,4,5,6,5,4,3,2,1 etc up to 10 and back again
This is the most effective way I have heard of to generate some concentration.
