  • Woah that little girl has a nose ring..im still begging my mom for one lol:)

  • @TheCharmel18 its very common for little indian girls to have them. its a cultural custom in india. thats one way you can tell your mom to let you have one.

  • someone should do something about this.

  • This was such a good movie I fucking cried haha I was so fucken high when I watched it!!!

  • Poor little girl obviously said the wrong thing at 1min 18 sec! probably by her Father.

  • It is so great how this movie has songs that make any person want to dance. Like me I love Jai Ho

  • @NatalieNasa97 good to hear

  • WHY she have a nose pierce she to young

  • @Lilin1989 its a custom in rural india, where people live in grinding poverty. as a result they tend to have different customs and traditions that would appear alien to most people.

  • I just watched this movie early this morning. I loved it. These two were so great in the movie.

I hope they do more movies.

  • if you liked this check out 'salaam bombay' its up on youtube. its an old movie about the slums of bombay, more dramatic. this was more of a feel good movie. i honestly think it was way better than slumdog to be honest.

  • rubina is a little doll so cute I would like to have her for my daughter!

  • You don't play with the hearts and minds of young children. Underpaid?! They were guests to hollywood and they got underpaid?! Is this how we treat new guests? Y doesn't somebody just go over to some hotshot producer in Bollywood and tell him/her who needs the most assistance so that the entire family would feel secure?

  • Those kids are too cute. Didn't the girl's father try to sell her?! If that's the case, she should be adopted by parents who'll love her. You can tell just by their body language, the kids are just characters themselves :)

  • where did you read that nonsense?

  • It was all over the media a few months back. After I posted this, I decided to find out on my own and apparently Indian authorities conducted an investigation and found no evidence of such an attempt. Her biological mother, however, reportedly tried to regain full custody from Rubina's stepmother (who had raised her) in order to reap the benefits of her daughter's success. It's such a mess but hopefully these kids will rise above whatever they're going through.

  • you know i post video news from india every single day i can assure there was no news of any selling attempts lol. but im not surprised about the child custody battle that happens with alot of child stars all over the world.

  • but let me say something else too. i have ridden on those indian trains you do see in the movie, and a very long time ago i saw a horrifying thing that could have been straight out of the movie. it was some raggidy street kids who were rummaging through the train garbage for discarded food to eat. its unbelievable that in these modern times human beings, let alone children are forced to live like that .

  • I did read that as well quite a bit ago. It was journalists posing as a wealthy fake sheik who wanted to buy\adopt her.

I think they mentioned that the father did meet with them to discuss his daughter working for them. Journalists claimed it was to sell Rubina. There was a language difference between the two so if the two are not speaking the same language fluently then there is room for misunderstanding.

That is what the cops said happened here.

  • For more information, pics. and cool stuff about Freida Pinto visit: freidapinto"co"uk

  • I read the October Issue of Reader's Digest just today and the kid who played the Jamal's brother when they were still young, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, is still very poor. Read the article and you know will know for sure how they took advantage of him.

  • maybe, but they did buy them a new condo (flat) in bombay, and its pretty decent compared to what they came out of.

  • This was the best moive ive ever seen man!

  • ya it was a good movie

  • this film is awesome

  • lil saleem and latika are so cute. hope everything works out for them, and they're safe. sad how life is, pray for all those kids everywhere who suffer and don't know where or when there next meal is going to come...god be enough for them

  • These kids hardly got jack shit!! That movie made over 230 Million....Shame!!!!

  • I don't understand why anyone involved with the making of this film which I loved would stand for how these young kids were treated. The film was very successful, it won what 7, 8 Oscars and yet two of the kids who helped make the film what it is are not even seeing real benefit. How can this be?

To give them a trust fund is great, but they need help RIGHT NOW also!!!

  • they made the cutest cupple and to the comment bellow ik but everybody in the world neeeds help so y just pick 2 people that were in a movie to helpthats like segragation but between riches and poor. what about the othe 5 million people who r living in slums. what about the billions of people in the world starving from starvation out of all those people in the world u just pick 2 people out of them thats not a big help i kno they need help and they should help them but i just cant putit in words

  • Yes many need help, difference is these kids acted and were supposed to get paid. Stars get paid lots for their part. Though it's a ridiculous amount they "earn" it. Cuz they're famous. =\

  • its favoritism o they lived in the slums and they were in a movie we should take them out of there and leave everybody else their to die and suffer if u can take 2 prople out y cant u take all im looking out side right now and i live in ne philly its surrounded with indian people who need help some cant affors the hospital and are skinny really skinny looking like they are ready to die u just cant do that think about other people but they should be taken out at least put them up for adaption

  • they should be adopted because they live in poverty? for that thier parents should lose thier kids?

  • i know they should but so sjould all the other kids

  • you didnt get the point i made, just because they are to poor parents, thier parents should then lose thier kids? there are plenty of poor black kids living in the ghettos and projects of america, yet no one cares. instead you have idiot politicians blasting 'welfare' day and night.

  • i think in india some of them can be so poor they sell their kids. but why do they have so many kids if they can't feed them. its really weird.

  • usually the man controls how many kids he wants, and sometimes they usually produce more girls than boys so the man pushes to have more kids.

  • most indians still live in rural areas and is an agricultural society. so most farms need all the hands they can get.

  • don't believe in abortion. india is like a bit muslim and a bit hindu, and muslims dnt believe in abortion, and idk if hindus do. and many of them probably can't even afford birth control, so the only thing to do is to have them. and guys please stop making comments like life is so easy while u chill in front of the telly watching heroes and eating a burger. people live different lives and try to survive the best the can. respect them for that.

  • they should not be adopted. being poor doesn't mean u lose your since of feelings. the parents can still feel the pain of losing their kids, and those kids can still feel the pain of losing their parents. poor is not a race, nor is it some type of disease that takes over your mind. it is a state of being.

  • I find it hilarious that rabina's father is saying they got paid lots of money while standing in an obvious slum. Look at him! Look at his clothes, his messed up hair and look at the area around him. LOL,LOL,LOL! Priceless!

You would think that whoever told him to say that would at least give him some nice clothes to wear and have him be interviewed in a nice house. I guess they didn't think anyone would notice.

    LOL!

  • All the money that movie made and those greedy bastards can't buy these kids a house? You could buy a pretty nice spread in India with some of that movie cash. Buying bicycles? WTF?! I don't see how the people who made all that money off that movie can look themselves in the mirror while those kids are living in dirt.

  • SHAME....now these kids in movie are now homeless. Goverment slammed down thier houses. It made me sad when I saw in news this kid "Ismael" in this millionare cashing movie is now homeless. No body helped them not even movie makers. I have a Q ? why they portrait something in movie when thier is no reality?? This movie was about poor kids?? am I right?? very very sad :( I wish somebody help them

  • hmm i wonder why sumone poked the little girl to be quiet when she said she'll be sent bac kto the streets.!!

  • the kids are really cute.

  • ~first this "slumdog" scandal then Anoop Desai is gonna be beheaded for getting booted off American Idol. Its a sad day in the great country of Indiastan.

  • Actually not many Indians give two hoots about Anoop Desai or American Idol for that matter. You'd be surprised..!

  • Someone care to translate that into a coherent English sentence?

  • which sentence? sorry i had to do the translations myself.

  • shit thts messed up! they have to go back to the slums... I want to adopt them!

  • I LOVE THEM... THEY ARE THE BEST OK?

  • A R RAHMAN IS BEST

  • I do think danny is a good director and...I don't think buying a big house for these family is a big deal to him but....I hate to say it but business is business. They were hired actors and actress.Or were they just kids who happened to have the looks fit for the part.

  • these kids took part in making this movie earn millions of dollars, can't they give them some money back at least to buy a decent house?

  • If that kid was playing Indian version of Cinderella in the near future then Denny need to. But making him rich doesn't make the kid better actor. Bollywood is still in the celebrity marketing and hasn't moved on to the director marketing. No definitely not. Making the kid rich doesn't help India or Bollywood.

  • this is so sweet for her to say directors from London should come to help good poor Indian actors. as Indian ones don't care about these kids. BIG " B" (sic') name he gave himself criticised this film for showing India in a bad light. he is so arrogant and full of himself he does not see the poverty in mumbai.he has done nothing to help the poor with all the money he has made on their backs.

  • i agree, amitabh sucks!

  • Wow I love them, I hope they live better lives after this movie =]

  • Its not like Britain is doing India a big favour...

They stole a lot of stuff from India when they were "conquered" us..

The kohinoor..and lot of Indian stuff being auctioned at christies...what the heck?

  • Well..for any nation to develop it needs to take up such activities(moon mission...etc)..

And all the foreign aid given is not utilised properly becoz of our filthy politicians but take away most of the money!

  • the kid who plays littlest salim is an amazing actor, best wishes to both of them to!

  • I love these kids I wish them all the best and hope they succeed... they are the ones who make the movie sooo touching they're adorable

  • those 2 kids were main reason that this movie was so great. They should be paid so much more than that.

  • I personally wish them good luck in their future

  • Those kids are adorable.

  • i'm in love with the Slumdog Millionaire kids especially Ayush who plays the youngest Jamal. I loved the movie. It's worth all the hype and awards.

  • The English get rich off of the poor Indians. Nothing ever changes does it.

  • Well perhaps India would like to to return the tens of millions in aid we give to them...... POOR India can afford weapons and a space programme ...... UK doens't have a space progrmame last time I looked.

  • I was not talking about governments. The makers of the movie made millions off of these kids. Why can't they buy a few nice condos and put the families up until the kids are grown.

  • what aid? what are you talking about? Uk took aid from india one time

  • In January 2008 Gordon Brown gave £800 million in aid to India for health and education.

it is strange that so many Indians live below the povery line and they have to take tens of millions of foreign aid for their people and yet India can afford a very expensive space programme and launched a moon mission.

Google it. You'll find the news reports.

Any nation with common sense would say fuck the moon mission, why don't we feed, educate and house our people with the money. Not India!

  • if gordon brown has extra money thats his problem.. why doesnt he first give it to poor in his country as if you dont have any? you dont stop progress in one area to make up for another .. there is separate funding for each.. maybe one dept is not working as good as it should but you dont stop regular life for that..

  • maybe you should stop your freaking space program if you have any and wait until the very last of all poor in your country is well off..

  • becasue we're too nice. unlike you. you dirty fucking cunt. go and walk into traffic, you'll be doing the world a favour by leaving us. CUNT :-) x

  • They are so cute!!!!!

  • God bless these innocent chaps... Allah thumay apney aman may rakhay .....

  • wit good eating in the boarding....Rubina & Azhar have physically built up quite well.....My god Rubina was looking so cute during the oscars.

  • rubina looked cuter in the movie with longer natural looking hair.. in the oscars she was so made up with her hair cut short...

  • That's really cute of them. JAI HO..

    :)

  • aww cute

  • did they speak english in the movie or their language?

and Rubina is a cutie...i wanna see the movie just for her

  • they spoke in hindi in the movie. the kids have not been educated in english yet, but they are slowly learning. if you want to watch the movie for free online, send me a message email here on youtube and ill give you a link to the dvd screener.

  • PRIDE OF A NATION, PRIDE OF A BILLION PEOPLE, PRIDE OF SOUTH ASIA!

winner: BEST PICTURE, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ADAPTIVE SCREENPLAY, BEST MUSICAL SCORE, BEST SONG

  • a new house for every actors family and their neighbours! this movie is going to fetch at least 1 billion on the world box offices! how much would a home cost in mumbai.........50000$ they deserve it!

  • you know what they are orginally from hyderabad and a condo there costs less than in bombay.

  • this kids are ADORABLE i can just gobble them up!!!!!!!!!!

  • well I didnt hear wat the translation wrote - the media is unnecessarily making a hype of the whole thing, mistranslating it and creating problem.

  • aw they are so adorable. I LOVE SLUM DOG MILLIONARE!

  • well i translated it haha. if i got it wrong please let me know, my urdu is kinda rusty.

  • SHOULD SLUMDOG MAKE PEOPLE RICH?

    /watch?v=tzecbXQX8Ok

  • I hope these kids get more chances to act in movies, thats the only way they can support their family, i watched their interview, and its so sad. good luck to rubina ali, and other two boys!!!

  • the film made over 150 million dollars so far. the girl was paid 1060 dollars, and the boy was paid 3660. they are still in the slums, the boys father has tuberculosis. thats messed up

  • they deserve more than that. I think the best part of the movie was theirs(kids). If it wasnt for the child artists the movie would not have gotten this popularity, good job kids!!!

  • from what i read is that like my relatives in india, the parents keep demanding more money. and they were playing games and all, like everyone in india does. like they were offered a condo, but in the kids name, not theirs and the parents said no. meaning that they were planning to sell it.

  • they do for some reason

  • oh come on look a rubina ali's big eyes, she is soo cute.

  • maybe thats just how you want to see them since they are indian?

  • The girl is really adorable. When i will have kids after some years and when they reach an age of learning and exploring, maybe say 10-12, i want them to watch this movie and learn to be human beings first rather than any nationality. Danny boyle did the right thing by showing the reality of india but if he really wants to help, he and his associates should build a trust to get things done. He has popularity now, so everyone will make an attempt to set things right.

  • hehe ya she is. i understand what the language, and im getting a kick out of thier dialect hehe, its from hyderabad, india and they sound just like my relatives lol. i have seen the slums first-hand myself and a big reason why my parents would drag me off to india, to appreciate the life we have here in america, as i am the son of immigrants. and i do feel lucky cuz fate could have been different. right behind my family' home in india, i saw a huge back alley slum full of tin roofs and all.

  • there was even a paint factory there and the fumes were just horrible standing on the roof of my family's home. i would sometimes walk through these alleys and i even saw a small one-room school there. i have seen the slums of bombay too, but bombay is overcrowded and housing is expensive thereand thats why the majority of its residents live in slums, some 60%. many times people leave mud-hut villages for the cities to find work only to find even more and worst poverty than ever.

  • god i havent been back to visit in eleven years now this march. i feel kinda guilty sometimes, since i am american of indian heritage, did i turn my back on my heritage?

  • Well you can look at it as keeping in touch with your roots, but don't only see it like that - it's also the best place to travel to in the whole world. I know sometimes when people go they get stuck chilling with family for the entire time and don't get to travel around, but if you can go with some cousins for a week or two. Best chill place: Kerala, Best party place: Goa & Mumbai, best outdoors: whitewater rafting on Ganges in Himalyas.

  • oh fuck them, i have enough of dealing with my greedy ass relatives lol. the next time i go, im going as a tourist. there is plenty of info available online for that, from hotel rooms, to even aparment and car and driver rentals that are dirt cheap - at least for us.

  • what the dad is saying is : the filmmakers are taking care of all the finances of the kids -- since the kids have been cast in the film, the filmmakers are taking care of their education, their needs -- if they need a cycle, the filmmakers are paying for it." the dad is actually saying in favor of the filmmakers, he is not greedy. u may want to correct the translation.

  • oh ok thanx, like i said my urdu is kinda rusty.

  • lol thats cool :)

  • aww im so glad the girl said directors from london instead of sayin hollywood morons

  • I doubt she's even watched any Hollywood movies before.

  • so wat even if she hasnt atleast shes made summit of herseif unlike u . IDIOT!

  • What on Earth are you blabbering on about?

Like other Mumbai slum kids, Rubina obviously grew up watching Bollywood movies, not Hollywood movies. It's unlikely a slum kid like her had ever watched a Hollywood movie prior to her casting in Slumdog Millionaire.

Next time, stop getting so over-defensive and learn to actually comprehend what you're reading before responding to it.

  • well i had to do with the fact that danny boyle was from lonon. well i tried to translate what they had said as best as i could, my urdu langauge skills are not the best, as i am american after all lol.

  • ahh well i thought it was strange seeing as danny boyle is actually from manchester not london lol

  • well he does live in london though

  • you know everytime i listen to this i just get a kick out of the dad's hyderabadi urdu accent and dialect. i swear the way he speaks, the words he is using, he sounds exactly like my relatives back in hyderabad, india lol.

  • where is the smal jamal ?

  • you have to click on the video response i posted here to see a video of him.

  • Thank you

  • i loved wen the gul said "i'm a gud actress" ya ur little gul

  • well i hope i got the translation correct. all the sub-titles you see, i translated it myself.

  • i noticed they were speaking urdu in a hyderabad dialect, and i was right, it turns out that thier families originally hail from hyderabad. and the dad oh my god his urdu is pure 'pucca' hyderabadi urdu haha. nukko mia!

  • i just listened to it again, you know i got that translation wrong, sorry, she was talking about rooting for the oscar nomination for the movie and said 'all of the actors are behind the best'.

  • ok so i translated into sub-titles what they were saying for a non-desi audience viewing these videos. if i translated some of it wrong please let me know guys lol.

  • u have that video of zee news in which they did hidden camera video report of azhars dad who is suffring from TB

  • sorry i dont, but that story is mentioned in the news report i posted in this videos info box at the top right of this page.

  • were is the cool kid!

  • Did the kids say they are only here in the hostel for one day and they have to go back to their slum the next day?

  • hehe you know she did say that. i didnt catch it the first time. thats wierd cuz the dad said he used the money they earned from the filming to pay for thier boarding school and denied rumors that there were complaints that the kids were 'underpaid'.

  • maybe underpaid by UK standards. but you have to realize, even their dad probably doesn't make $8 per hour. And they couldn't even afford education before. But they have enrolled them in a school and are paying for their education. So it's really changing their lives drastically.

  • well it was rumors that he denied. he said he bought them bicycles with the money, and whatever else they wanted. also i listened to it again, and they were talking about getting a bigger house, when she said one day they will goto hostel and then come back. she didnt say exactly back to where, or if she meant they were only at the school's hostel for a day and from those school uniforms it doesnt look like it.
