@splinterbluepill No, you never have to host. Though it can be tough to get people to host you if you don't have any previous reviews. Best way to start is find your existing friends who couch surf, or just meet up for coffee with people close by. Once you have some positive reviews and you are verified you are good to go. When I shot this video in Paris, it was both my and my host's first couch surfing experience.
Hey that's weird. I had a "teaching english gig", near the rue de convention, and came across your video on google earth. Awesome! We happened to be on a couch until February, at which point we should have our own couch to offer to someone else! Cool!

This is the clearest anyone has made the concept of couchsurfing. However, do you have to be a host in order to be hosted?
