People need to keep in mind that he was simply showing a little bit of what he can do here. He wasn't trying to be melodic or whatever it is you want from him. He was showing his SKILL, not his SOUL. If you want soul, look at his version of Somewhere over the rainbow. It's beautiful and insane.

He is soooo much better now than he was then.I slowed down his first album when I first got it to see what he was doing. A lot of double picked notes. The difference is that not only he plays incredibly fast (320 bpm) but also completely clean. You can actually hear every note. Not like the mess that Impelliteri used to play back in 1988.
He may be fast but it's also too sloppy. At that time Impellittery didn't have much precision, actually he prefered to be fast than clean. He improved much from then on - nowadays he's not so fast as in 1988 (the time of this video) much perfectly clean.

HE WAS ASKED to show off by the interviewer - it's not going to be musical or passionate. Listen to his rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. You still might not like, but you can't say he's unmusical.
He's moving them. He just keeps them very close to the fretboard so he doesn't have to move them a lot. I believe he also uses a scalloped fretboard which uses very little finger pressure to note the strings. Yngwie does that too.

He slowed down since, for greater clarity.You can also see him play this fast in his Speed Soloing video. It`s a pitty that people like you can`t handle the speed just because YOU can`t play like this, or at least try. This type of technique in keeping your fingers close to gain this much speed is VERY hard,and I know so

I don't even like him that much, his music can hardly be compared to pink floyd but all his songs that I've heard are decent enough, its pretty stupid to assume that all his music would just be playing really fast and trying to show off just because he does it in one video

I still feel that songwriting is way more important than mindblowing technique but the comment was really kinda messed up and hurtful. Music tends to divide people so much. HE WAS ASKED to show off by the interviewer - it's not going to be musical or passionate. Listen to his rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. You still might not like, but you can't say he's unmusical.

He's moving them. He just keeps them very close to the fretboard so he doesn't have to move them a lot. I believe he also uses a scalloped fretboard which uses very little finger pressure to note the strings. Yngwie does that too.

doesn't make any sense at all. What does a delay do??? It echoes what you just played. So a sloppy player would sound even sloppier because you would hear it over and over again in the delay.
