Okay. I was actually looking at the 300's and ran across the CX500's and all the talk of the fakes. I happened to bid on a pair from a private party on ebay. I won at $1.50. lol. So I received them today and checked EVERY possibility for a fake according to this site and others. From no visable seam on plug, to the rubber feel cable to the V groove offset to the wire mesh AND leather case.. I beleive I have scored!! I guess at this low of a bid the HAD to be fakes, right? Luck of the draw.

i bought fake cx 400 from a amazon seller, and real cx 300 from a shop. the fakes are pretty good, definitely worth the 9pounds ($13) i paid for them, although i could hear a definite quality difference in bass, i'm still happy with both purchases
....but on the cable....mine seems to be of the same rubbery feel to that of the generic iPhone ones! Quality looks and feels really nice but where the 3.5mm jack is encased in the rubber housing, the edges seem kind of roughly cut.

The content came with 3 small size ear bud and 1 torn mid size (usually 2 small 2 mid if i am not wrong). And i get the sound from wire hitting my shirt and my footstep as I walk. Anyone can become a dealer on Amazon. If it's not coming from Amazon directly and the price is insanely low, it's most likely fake. I've seen fake headphones plagued on many legitimate sites but are coming through 3rd party sellers. All these negative reviews on Amazon damage the products reputation and it sucks because these buyers have most likely purchased fakes which break within weeks and months.

Alright mine is real. Just got in mail from A1 Accessories via Amazon. Although, now it's sold by Electronica Direct. The easiest way to tell it was fake or not was the stitching on the carry bag. Turns out to be real and sounds great.

The pair that I got in the mail today from Amazon looks very genuine, but it doesn't sound that great... All of the logos and the tag on the pouch are all good quality and the music doesn't shut off when the in-line volume bar is all the way down, but they really don't sound any better than the random pair I bought a year ago from Fry's for $20. Do I just need to let them burn in? I'm not getting this "amazing bassy" sound that everyone is talking about. I'm pretty dissapointed

The way I can tell is the sound quality. I've had cx300's and they sound x10 better than this garbage.

I believe that the shock from hitting stuff is in the real because I've ordered fake ones and the shock is terrible, in the real ones its very muffled. And when you listen to music you can even hear it unless you forcefully just hit it against something. Just saying :P
DUDE, your camera poor quality is so annoying, also breathing blow in microphone. Nice try but it enough tell simple thing - purchase goods only form authorised dealer and not expect qenuine goods from ebay for half or less price. That's all.
once u get the earphones, test for sound quality. If they're fake, start a Paypal dispute, then get a refund BEFORE you return the item to the seller. On my third Sennheiser earphones, the seller tricked me into posting back the earphones then later denied that he ever received it. I posted it via regular post so I didn't have any proof of postage to show to Paypal. I'd also stay clear of HongKong or Chinese sellers; it maybe unfair but it just makes sense with all the scammers they have there.
I got REAL cx500s from an ebayer from singapore, cost me $43 AUD, was $48, but the dude sent me black ones instead of white ones cause he didn't read my message.. So he compensated me, if you're interested, drop me a message, and I'll tell you who to look up =] Well the dude I bought it off anyway..
Just to share my experience with other eBay users. I bought not one pair of Sennheiser earphones but three from different sellers in China and Hong Kong. All of them turned out to be fakes. And I wasn't an eBay newbie too, I've got 300+ feedbacks, I checked that the earphones weren't too cheap (about 30-40 USD), that the sellers had good feedback, and I specifically asked the sellers before bidding that they guarantee genuineness. They all lied of course. My advice? Pay only by paypal,
ugh i bought mine from amazon. i dunno if they are fake. half the things you said proved it was real. but then stuff like the banging against the cable, you're able to hear it. and also the going down to min volume stops it completely happens on my headphones :( just opened them as well :/
I read a review about cx500 and the banging is completely normal it happens for every cx500 models including mine. The volume is usually faint for me when I put the volume on a medium to high setting but when I lower it to a lower setting it is harder to hear. Aside from that everything what kungura said is on point with me.
Impossible - because they're made in one location for a global markey (hence why they have the same model number).
Don't take 'this guy's' word for it (he may just be mis-informed), if you want to make sure, contact Sennheiser - which i did - and find out for yourself.

If you buy from AMAZON, then they can't be fake, as they're a certified dealer. IF you buy a pair from amazon and find they're are not authentic, then you can instantly get your money back.
the way to get a genuine pair from amazong is to make sure to buy FROM amazon (shich says if they have in stock or not), not other sellers within the amazon marketplace...
@kungura I wish that were true, but in the UK that's not the case and the problem isn't only with the CX's. Amazon gave me a limp excuse, and (quite rightly) challenged me on both my summation and where I bought them. So I did. They then asked me to send them back pending an investigation. So Im hard pressed to say that even with the evidence presented that they were forthcoming, hence I decided to keep them and continue to warm people on the possible problems of fakes.

nice vid man. but i just wanna ask if there's only one kind of fake cx500's or are there many kinds of fake versions? i just bought one and i do think theyre real when i compare it to the fakes ones uve shown(i.e. mine has proper closing mechanism on pouch, sharp logo prints, volume control working as it should, etc).

I am twice more surprised, because China site had a description which told I am buying just a good replica;)
So I am really pleased by the sound, comparing to Sony MDR-EX300SL, Koss The Plug, and SoundMagic PL30

i just bought cx400 fakes from amazon, sending them back 2morrow and waitin for refund... the sound quality gave it away. the fakes won't even compare to the real thing! i've been using sennheiser earphones for years, i can immediately tell the difference from just listening.

The pair that I got in the mail today from Amazon looks very genuine, but it doesn't sound that great... All of the logos and the tag on the pouch are all good quality and the music doesn't shut off when the in-line volume bar is all the way down, but they really don't sound any better than the random pair I bought a year ago from Fry's for $20. Do I just need to let them burn in? I'm not getting this "amazing bassy" sound that everyone is talking about. I'm pretty dissapointed

@brigre Dude, we're both on the same train lol. EXACT same thing happened to me. They're fake man, but I got em from a different seller. I contacted them and I'm waiting for a reply. Plus the left ear doesn't even work. I'm getting my money back even if it costs me more in shipping.
The way I can tell is the sound quality. I've had cx300's and they sound x10 better than this garbage.

I just wish I knew someone with a definite real pair to compare them to mine so I can tell if mine are fake or not. I guess I'll never know lol.

I believe that the shock from hitting stuff is in the real because I've ordered fake ones and the shock is terrible, in the real ones its very muffled. And when you listen to music you can even hear it unless you forcefully just hit it against something. Just saying :P

once u get the earphones, test for sound quality. If they're fake, start a Paypal dispute, then get a refund BEFORE you return the item to the seller. On my third Sennheiser earphones, the seller tricked me into posting back the earphones then later denied that he ever received it. I posted it via regular post so I didn't have any proof of postage to show to Paypal. I'd also stay clear of HongKong or Chinese sellers; it maybe unfair but it just makes sense with all the scammers they have there.

Just to share my experience with other eBay users. I bought not one pair of Sennheiser earphones but three from different sellers in China and Hong Kong. All of them turned out to be fakes. And I wasn't an eBay newbie too, I've got 300+ feedbacks, I checked that the earphones weren't too cheap (about 30-40 USD), that the sellers had good feedback, and I specifically asked the sellers before bidding that they guarantee genuineness. They all lied of course. My advice? Pay only by paypal,

ugh i bought mine from amazon. i dunno if they are fake. half the things you said proved it was real. but then stuff like the banging against the cable, you're able to hear it. and also the going down to min volume stops it completely happens on my headphones :( just opened them as well :/

I read a review about cx500 and the banging is completely normal it happens for every cx500 models including mine. The volume is usually faint for me when I put the volume on a medium to high setting but when I lower it to a lower setting it is harder to hear. Aside from that everything what kungura said is on point with me.

I phoned sennheiser and they said they have discontinued the cx 500 series and that the cx 400 ii is the new improved cx500 series.
DO NOT BUY ANY CX 500 YOU SEE their most likely fake. Phone sennheiser they would be the ones to give you the most reliable info!

Impossible - because they're made in one location for a global markey (hence why they have the same model number).
Don't take 'this guy's' word for it (he may just be mis-informed), if you want to make sure, contact Sennheiser - which i did - and find out for yourself.

If you buy from AMAZON, then they can't be fake, as they're a certified dealer. IF you buy a pair from amazon and find they're are not authentic, then you can instantly get your money back.
the way to get a genuine pair from amazong is to make sure to buy FROM amazon (shich says if they have in stock or not), not other sellers within the amazon marketplace...

@kungura I wish that were true, but in the UK that's not the case and the problem isn't only with the CX's. Amazon gave me a limp excuse, and (quite rightly) challenged me on both my summation and where I bought them. So I did. They then asked me to send them back pending an investigation. So Im hard pressed to say that even with the evidence presented that they were forthcoming, hence I decided to keep them and continue to warm people on the possible problems of fakes.

To avoid this type of scam always buy from a Large reputable store. Go to the Store in your area and check them out and ask questions:)

nice vid man. but i just wanna ask if there's only one kind of fake cx500's or are there many kinds of fake versions? i just bought one and i do think theyre real when i compare it to the fakes ones uve shown(i.e. mine has proper closing mechanism on pouch, sharp logo prints, volume control working as it should, etc).
however im not very convinced on the sound quality when i compared it to my senn psx150 and some stock earphones.
so it makes me wonder if there are better kinds of fake ones.

i suppose the obvious test is the volume control mine doesnt quite cut all sound, which is good, i was wondering about that and thought that there was a problem with it.
