I love this song too, I also love the song before this Lay It On The Line - I wish David re-record that song as it's a great song. I love all the songs from the Up To Date album. I never get tired of listening to those great songs - they lift you up when you feel down.
Originally, Bell Records wanted this song to be the follow-up to "I Think I Love You", but they thought it was too sad and melancholy to be a follow-up single, so "Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted".
It was 1971, near the DMZ in Vietnam....in the evening when back at our home base of Phu Bai I would put on a set of headphones, close my eyes and "ride home" while smiling and listening to this song. This morning I walked my pup down a beautiful, tree lined river road near Kennedy Space Center and in the quiet of the day the Morning Rider on the Road passed me on his Harley...bringing back the memory of this song....and a smile. Thank you.....
i love this song!I could close my eyes, dream and enjoy David wonderful voice!Wonderful photos of evreyone of them in The Partridge Family! Thanks for sharing!:)
I met David Cassidy about 1990 and we briefly discussed this song. He seemed suprised to be reminded of this song and said he hadn't thought about "Morning Rider on the Road" in years.
One of their best songs. Instrumentation and backing vocals on all their tracks are top notch, which is one reason that these songs -- surprisingly -- stand the test of time.
Great song off the best Partridge Family album: "Up to Date" ... the only complaint I have is that you should have used images of Jeremy Gelbwaks ... the original (brown-haired) Chris Partridge ... he was still on the show when this song and album came out ... he would have been "Chris Partridge" when this song came out!
the partridge family had some very deep, philosophical songs. it took being older to realize this. the meaningless drivel of today pales in comparison.
Hey! From 00:32 - 00:37, I had those toy blocks as a kid back in the 70's! I forget what they are called. Wait, wasn't it a "game"? Kind of similar to "Jenga"? Like Jenga in reverse? You take turns adding pieces 1 @ a time, instead of subtracting them? Maybe i'm wrong. I just found similar 100 piece wood block sets online. Still though, I could swear it was a game & not just building blocks. Maybe we just made the game up while playing. Damn! I can't remember & It's driving me crazy!
This was originally slated to be the LP's main single until "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted" was selected instead. This one may have been too depressing for the masses. Does anyone else find the desolate, loner imagery disturbing and perhaps indicative of something troubling going on with the writer (that he perhaps didn't intend to reveal)?
It's funny how many memories one obscure piece of pop culture can trigger. As a kid, I borrowed this album from the public library and for some reason this song stuck.
I also liked the way the video was put together. It contains some very attractive pictures of the actors as they looked then, and it strongly captured the element of nostalgia for me.
Surreal is exactly how I'd describe it for me, too. It was my favorite from Up To Date when I got the album in '72. What a great album. I can't believe how I remember every note and lyric from their albums, even if I hadn't listened for years. Timeless.
