but i think having a run-button is ok, because most of the great platformers and jump'n'runs of the past like super mario bros. had one. Another thing that reduces the gameflow is that those moving platforms don't move you if you stand on them. that confused me somehow. Also the levels sometimes make it possible to skip harder passages or to take a huge shortcut, but this improves the need to use skills which are trained by the game which gives the game itself more deptht. I hope this helps you.
@drchaos12 Thanks for the feedback. The blue bones do have a purpose- they are there for speed runs. They rewind the clock slightly when you collect them. Unfortunately the game's "best time" list is currently broken, I should really get it fixed one of these days...
@rugt0r I almost thought this :D This is another point which improves the depth of a skill because you always have to decide whether you take the bones or not. A nice idea and fit's better in the concept of solving the levels as fast as possible compared to bonus points for the time used in other games.
There are many aspects which make this game good: I liked the graphic style and the skeleton vs. slugs concept which let the seem more unique. I also liked the game itself, but in my opinion there are some things which should be improved: First of all give those blue bones a clear purpose! I never knew if I should collect them or not. Also don't create to large groups of them. turning around and collect the remains stops the gameflow.I also had some problems with the need of a run-button.
have you thought about publishing the source code?, i've been wanting to learn how to program games with java, and i believe the best way to do it is by reading other game codes, :). please reply if you already posted the source code somewhere, or if you didnt but you will ;)
Its good... for a start. If you want to make it better make a unique and good created protagonists, better enemies and music. Just giving you something to work on, zou know ...
@deathnotedo Well, it's not as widely used nowadays as it was... but it's alright. What are you planning to make with it? If it's just little browser games (like this) then Flash might be more worth it.
@rugt0r starting out small... iv made the classic "hello world" xD and i wana end up makeing a fps like minecraft im also lerning c++ darkbasic pro game maker and to see what i like the best xD ty for the fast reply :)
@deathnotedo No problem :) Have you looked at C# and XNA? I haven't used them myself but I've heard good things. And C# is kinda like Java, so if you learn one you'll be familiar with the other pretty quickly. You can't make browser games with it, but once you're good enough you can make games for the XBox Live Arcade (if thats something you're interested in.)
@rugt0r ah yeah i had a look at xna but i think you got to pay to make them? i cant work out the porgrams you need and how you compile or test them on your xbox :S
@deathnotedo well you can make xna games for windows for free, but yeah i think you need a special license to put them onto the 360. i cant help you with the compiler I'm afraid because I haven't used it. I guess just keep trying various things until you find something you like.
@rugt0r Yeah i did, after i play through it some more enjoying it i'll try to get a fast play time. I really like the character, the items, and the design of the game world.
