Well guys, I just bought this DVD (hey, music industry, thanks to some 'illegal' postings of fragments of it), and the whole of it is even better than any fragment on utube. Indispensible for anyone who digs this.
A Classic track, the song is Fred from the New Tony Williams Lifetime lp released in the 70's. that lineup featured Tony Allan, Alan P and Tony Newton on bass. What a lineup Must have for Allan fans.
I was at a concert in germany. I had to drive 6 hours to get there, and I don't regret a second ! Holdsworth is far beyond of good an evil ! He's not a human being.. What a musician ...

Hi guys it's Allan Holdsworth here and i'd just like to clear things up by saying i shit my pants today. goodbye, i gotta go practice now...but buy my dvd even though the drummer can't groove...please :)
I have of course bought the dvd. I want everything by Allan Holdsworth. Most treasured possession: a plectrum, Dunlop 1mm as always. I asked, and he just gave it to me, like nothing, and I am happy, tell ya.
I spoke with Allan recently about piracy issues related to his music. In short, He wants to get paid for his "works" and does not like his kids to "copy" music off the internet. I also don't think he is capable of developing marketing strategies for his talent. Posting short clips is probably not the key issue, but making sure he gets paid via his concerts, authorized CDs/DVDs, and music instruction materials is the right way to keep him around. Remember, he won't be around forever.
I saw them live in Italy-Trevi, last year. All incredibly good, especially the "two Allans"...this is music, pls buy the dvd in order to guarantee Allan's efforts.
I love the way Holdsworth breaks up the fast runs with some tasty legato. And what a tone monster. I just wish he would break up the fast runs more often, we all know he can "shred" but the ear gets a little tired, and he is a MONSTER with the tasty legato.
BUY THE DVD!!! If you like this kind of music you have to support the musicians! These teases are enough for Allan fans to buy it but it might be good to have just one or two songs available on youtube with a big watermark of the website to get new fans to buy it.
Maybe you're right, but I can't imagine not going nuts over any of these amazing clips. When I first heard Allan it was totally enthralling from the first beautiful cascade of notes. He's only gotten better. What you said about supporting these amazing musicians is very welcome; I plan to buy a few copies of the dvd for friends, family, and simply to loan out, to spread the word (and of course, one for me to wear out).
Please DON'T post the whole songs. A tease is just what people need. Go out and buy the dvd when it comes out. I don't think giving away pirated performances helps people sell more product. Why should people buy it if they can get it free. Just my 2 cents. (I know Allan hates the pirating of his music).
I have already spent 40 dollars on the DVD, which I haven't received yet! Think how stupid MTV would have been if they only played 40 second clips of songs...that's stupid. Its insane, especially if nobody knows who you are. A bad policy.
The thing is, Allan isn't MTV; they're using "music" vids to sell other stuff. His policy isn't to post stuff at all; this is all pirated stuff; so I'm glad that it isn't the whole songs. Poeple always say that they buy more cds as a result of pirating music; the industry stats don't bear that out. I've favorited hundreds of utube music vids; have yet to purchase a single one; though most of it is whole songs.
No, actually, you make videos to sell music. That's why I went out and bought albums by Lush and Nirvana. Somebody played their music. Don't trust anything that the RIAA says. If it was up to them you wouln't even get clips. The truth is everyting that Allan ever made is online and for free on emule. I haven't even tried torrents yet...
Well I won't dissagree that it's out there for the stealing, but there's no question that recorded music sales have plummetted, and the easy availability of pirated music may have something to do with it. Brittney Spears makes vids to sell music; Allan makes music for the love of it. Sales is sort of an afterthought with him, but he deeply resents people stealing the fruits of his labor. I'm not sure people that pick their music with their eyes will ever appreciate Allan anyway.
Do you talk to Allan personally? I did once when I saw him live back in 1985...but I wish he would understand this: I'm not trying to steal from him. I've supported him with cash all my life. Playing one or two full tunes from his dvd isn't theft. It's smart promotion. I would never anything who just gave me a 40 second clip, especially obscure jazz guitarists...
I have talked to him briefly, but not about piracy; that came from reading interviews (he's repeatedly stated his resentment of it). I'm glad you support him. We're both fans, so I don't feel inclined to overstate our dissagreement; after all, it's about music promotion, not the music itself. (Imo he isn't obscure, not many jazz guitarists have better commercial success).
I received my DVD from Altitude Digital (it took 12 business days)...I had GREAT Communication with Eric (from Altitude Digital Also the DIRECTOR and Editor of the DVD)..AND THE DVD IS A MUST HAVE!!....ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!..
I've posted a few long clips from a Shawn Lane/Jonas Hellborg DVD, and so far 3-4 people have said they've ordered the disc. This isn't piracy, it's promo. No radio station is going to play his stuff, that's simply reality. He plays a very demanding style of music that isn't mainstream in the least. His best hope for exposure is the internet and avenues like YouTube.
The recording industry sales are in the toilet because that's where most of the music they are pushing belongs.
I get where you're coming from, but if the artist specifically states their opposition to self appointed "promoters" taking it upon themselves to share said artist's music-it's piracy. You can dissagree with the artist's ideas about marketing-doesn't give you the right to take over the job they didn't hire you for. For the record; I've put Holdsworth on the radio (legally).
Please post this WHOLE cut if you've got it. What good is it to post 32 seconds of something totally off the meter?! A tease... That's cruel. People need to hear this guy (Allan). The level of his guitar playing is so rare these days.

I was at this Yoshi's gig. At the end of one of the tunes a guy yelled out "Now play something difficult!" Everyone laughed, A.H. smiled.
