  • To be honest, I like the way Nintendo does it. I'm ignorant about how it exactly works for PS3 and 360, but if you can just download your game to the console you're using, what stops you from doing it for friends' consoles? Also, new Wiis are $200, usually with one controller and game. So it's worth the repair if you've invested lots of downloaded content anyway. For everyone suggesting the SD card, it only takes save data I believe, not the games themselves.

  • @Sygmus6 always need the game to boot up for x and ps.

  • Well I have to say that a Virtual Console is a waste of effort and having the actual consoles and games are better.

  • @jtomally9681 Hmm, not really. Downloading games on VC is easier and often cheaper than tracking down the original systems and carts. Not to mention the games actually look and sound better on VC. I've done PC emulation too and VC is far superior. My only real gribe about VC is just the sheer lack of so many hundreds and hundreds of good games. Although a lot of those can be contributed to licensing issues or the games original publisher being out of business now.

  • @vio2112 VC isint superior to PC emulation at all. Emulators have high quality filters that smooth pixelation, plugins to enhance sound and video quality, and allow you to play online (the original smash brothers on project 64 online is very popular), and some people make hacked versions of games, for example bowsers revenge mario world hack. New sprites, new stages, even a shop where you can spend coins you collect.

  • @Brandon5l9 Nonsense. Old games look terrible on a computer monitor you're sitting 2 feet away from, the games sometimes run too fast and the sound is often messed up. I've used NES, SNES, Genesis, TG16 and N64 emulators and my experience has been negative with all of them. All of them are buggy as hell. This is why I pay Nintendo 5 to 10 bucks a pop to download games on Virtual Console.

And I don't like hacked games either. I like to keep things pure.

  • @vio2112 Screw a monitor, grab and HDMI cable and get it running on your tv. And the buggy emulators was an error on your part. they work fine. Also HQ filters make games look better. alot better.

  • @vio2112 Oh, and just to prove my point, check this out Brandon.

Here's the classic TG16 shooter Lords of Thunder on Virtual Console:

    watch?v=N5O8KWQRWuE

Now here it is on a popuar PC emulator. Note how incredibly fucked up the sound effects are here.

    watch?v=cIw6yy0RS2A

That is some shitty ass emulation there. The Virtual Console emulation stomps all over it.

  • @vio2112 I play castlevania ROB on my TG16 emu and it runs 100% perfect. Maybe his is just set up badly or he has a bad rom different plugins work for different people depending on your pc.

    check this: watch?v=NP7xeffdjdA&feature=related

    tell me VC looks better

  • @Brandon5l9 Actually, I do think the VC version looks better. :) I don't like that strange filtering or whatever it is they're doing there. It's cleaner yes, but not necessarily better. It no longer looks like an SNES game to me. But to each their own.

  • @vio2112 I can agree to the lack of games for the VC. Emulation and the real consoles have most of the games if not all of them so that is the main reason why I believe they are superior.

  • ehh you complain to much, you hate virtual console, FFVII, what do you like?

  • That is a pretty stupid policy.

  • geez, how many people are going to comment with the SD card suggestion.

as someone who has owned several wii (a launch one that i sold, a later one that was shared with a gf, and yet another one that i bought when i broke up with that gf) i can vouch that it is not possible without jailbreaking to copy games back and forth. this problem could be solved if nintendo had followed suit and gone with an account or profile based online experience the way sony and microsoft have.

  • put it on an sd card you stupid bitch

  • @lbpkiddpodcast guess what, you ACTUALLY can't do that! do some research, you stupid bitch :)

  • @imagesfromapoet actully u can

  • @mobyvsray nope, you can put it on the SD card but it won't work on another console, you are also a stupid bitch

  • well girl the best i can tell you is move your games to an sd card and then send in your system also nintendo rules and metroid other m is awesome stupid x play

  • @cb19882000 it doesn't work like that, your system won't recognize the games as yours

  • (this is not hate comment)

i think if you buy a 2GB sd card for the wii you can just save your games on to it. that way it wouldnt take up space on your console if you removed the card or your system crashed/gotstolen.

  • @ZONICvsMARIO yes, but if you got a new system, the card would not play the games

  • @imagesfromapoet

    that sucks =(

  • But your credit card information is saved on the PS3 (360 too I think) and you have to manually remove the information.

So if your PS3 gets stolen or you sell it, whoever has it has access to your credit card and a whole library of games to buy.

  • @seanileus or you could NOT put your credit card information in and use subscription and points cards which are often on sale for cheap online.

  • microsoft and sony are just trying too make more money then nintendo but nintendos not worried because every body keeps buying there consoles

  • for dsi to cause i download a lot

  • Just pirate it. Just do it.

  • cant you save the virtual console games on an sd card?

  • @nickhadloc You can, but you still have to use the SD Card with that console, you cant play the games on another

  • @ imagesfromapoet

Whatya think about PSmove? I own both a Wii and a ps3 (with move) and I find the Move to be ALOT more technologically advanced. I read tons of nonsense on various forums about people saying that the PSmove is a Wii copy, but it really isn't. I know because I have both. You any have input on PSmove? =)

  • This asinine policy only hurts paying consumers and heavily encourages piracy.

Kind of a joke really, I know more people who pirate with a Wii than with 360 and PS3 combined and I can't blame them.

I'd be forced into Wii piracy if I lost hundreds of legally downloaded Wii games just because my Wii hardware dies and Nintendo's too paranoid to let me transfer my own files.

  • Their policy only hurts paying consumers and actually encouraged piracy. Kind of a joke really, I know more people who pirate with a Wii than PS3 and 360 combined.

  • Well, this is ass. *runs out to buy 7 SD Cards for backups*

  • I love Nintendo, but thats fucking dumb.

  • i also have all 3 consoles and i also agree that its disturbing to say the least, becouse if my wii breaks somwhow i have to pay alot of money for repairs or just re-buy all the games again... wichever i choose it will cost and waste time, i think ps3/360 have the better sollution this time.

  • So how's the workout going.

  • When did you get the tongue bar?

  • I think that ps3 and xbox 360 have it right because its stupid not having all your dloads if you console brakes -.-

  • Ps3's dosen't last that long eh? How come I have had mine JP Ps3 since November 2006 at launch date and It still work perfectly. That makes my Ps3 almost 4 years old as well.

  • @wweworldwrestling you still like wrestling

  • @imagesfromapoet And you're still pointing out that completely unrelated subject.

  • @wweworldwrestling it's still relevant, buddy

  • @imagesfromapoet Suuuure. I'm not going to bother replying anymore. It's a waste of time.

  • @wweworldwrestling sweet, I win

  • @wweworldwrestling Come back when it's 10 years old. :P

  • @DeltaLead65 But you cannot transfer them to another console.

  • get steam

  • Nintendo basically made it so they can make more money off you if the console breaks, whereas Sony and Microsoft are pretty chill in saying 'hey you already bought this so if you delete the content or something you get it back free of charge' the only thing with the 360 is that you'd have to reclaim your profile due to the content being purchased by that identity which is, I'm guessing, a somewhat lengthy process.

TL;DR version: Sony and Microsoft have it right, Nintendo needs to work on it.

  • Well, you know, the world is going pretty crazy trying to prevent piracy. I think Sony and Microsoft have it right for the most part. Generally, piracy is a big issue wherever you go. No matter what you do to stop it, it's always gonna come back and bite you in the ass. Ubisoft recently disappointed me greatly. I've always been a huge fan of them. However, their DRM system that they are using now it's absolutely ridiculous. Games like Assassins Creed 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction already haveit

  • [Continuation of Previous Comment]

Basically, the DRM requires a constant internet connection at all times. A constant connection to ubisoft servers [even in online games]. Your saved games and many essential things are stored online and you don't have access to them. If your internet cuts out or if the Ubisoft servers have a hiccup, the game just shuts off immediately and you're shit out of luck if you didn't save. Honestly, I'll never buy a game from Ubisoft again. Ever. That shit.. their

  • [Continuation of Previous Comment]

crap that they're trying to pull... just makes me lose all respect for them. I understand the want to prevent piracy. But, you just can't do it! What were they thinking? It didn't take long before the famous crackers broke the code and made the game piratable. How much you wanna bet that people would much rather pirate a game and play it whenever they want rather than buy a game and play it only when the makers give you the ability to do so? Piracy Prevention

  • [Continuation of Previous Comment]

is far past ridiculous. How much more extreme can it get? how much more can they throw at us? How much more unpleasant of an experience are they going to make gaming be in the future? They're basically screaming at us "piracy is the only way for your game to play like normal" while they're trying to prevent it. In what crazy, fucked up world does that even make sense?

  • Microsoft definitely have it right.

On the first console you download the content onto, the licence is registered to that console. However, you can still download and play the content on another console, as long as you are signed into Xbox Live.

Plus, if you buy a new Xbox, they have a content licence migration tool to allow you to transfer your licences, so that you can play the content offline on those machines. Fairly fucking win :)

  • I'm a big Nintendo fan and I'll be the first to say that when it comes to the online, Nintendo is behind the times and on the wrong path. I have only played a game online from my Wii ONCE. Random games with random people are ok, but it's nearly impossible to play with friends, and heaven forbid you actually want to communicate with the other players. I play online games to interact with others.

Funny how the most successful DRM (steam) is the least restrictive. Others should follow this model.

  • girl i know what you mean. no matter what they do there is always going to be people pirating game and such, it is stupid. thy should have a way to transfer it to the system but its all about the money.

  • Call Nintendo and ask about an Advance Wii Replace. Well, I don't know really but My Wii broke down recently and I sent it to Nintendo. They said they couldn't fix it so it had to be replaced and they transfered the Wii Virtual account that was tied to my original Wii onto the new one they sent me.

However between that or the PS360's way, the PS360's way is much better.

  • That sucks more then the X-Box's gameplay. I feel bad for you, Samm. xD

  • I like the PS3/Xbox 360's approach to this concept better. As great as Nintendo has become, their history in the console market is littered with some pretty bad failed concepts. We're talking about the same people who invented the Power Glove and R.O.B., and that's just to name a couple, there are others I'm forgetting about. With the Wii, a lot of that is coming back in the form of Friend Codes and, like you said, downloading games. It isn't as bad this time around, but it still isn't good.

  • long time no see Samm... welcome back

  • If i dropped as much cash on games as you did, I think that 80 to repair my wii plus the wait is a good enough exchange considering if you go new, you'd have to buy them all over again, well breaking the 100$ mark. Yeah, I understand, it does suck, but given the two options of repairing and keeping my old games or going new and rebuying, I'd take the former.

  • Nintendo considers buying used games/consoles stealing too, IIRC.

  • do yuo pley nrutod in yuo wee?

  • @paulwall47 SaY WHAT?

  • That is a really bad way to do business. At this point, with all the content you can buy, all of these companies should start thinking about letting people transfer the download-able data they purchased onto the next generations of systems that will be coming out. It seems like quite a step backwards for Nintendo seeing as they were pretty big on making things compatible when they switched from the cube.

  • I had this problem recently too, but I had already bought a new wii cause I wanted a black one, but I had to call Nintendo -which I did- and they had me send both of the consoles in, and transferred the data, for free.

So the only downside was that I had to wait. I hope you'll be able to get it done for free, good luck

  • When my wii broke they did the same thing to me. I just gave in because the fee was a lot cheaper than replacing all the games I spent money on. The representative told me when I asked almost the same question "It keeps people from stealing money from the company and the companies that make the games"...my only problem is- if they want to keep everything SO secure, why is it so easy to hack the wii compared to other consoles?

  • This is why I buy the originals. Lasts longer and doesn't get lost along with the console. :)

Besides, I wouldn't pay a single penny for virtual console stuff.

Glad to see you're well and alive.

  • @Bastiest Buying originals is a pain in the ass these days. As a collector, I would always buy originals but now non-gamers are trying to make a killing. Some used snes cartridges are going for $25+ easy. And if the game is complete or sealed.....FORGET IT! U can find some games that cost over $200+ that aren't rare at all. It used to be fun to find and collect older games but now it completely sucks.

  • @PrinceApocalypse Well, it really depends where you're buying them from.

You can find really rare gems for cheap once in a while.

It sure is expensive but it's been worth of it.

  • I think Nintendo is right. Its the easiest way to prevent piracy on a system aimed at an audience that hardly ever pirates stuff. The people that do pirating are voiding their warranties as soon as they upload the software, so they might as well be dead to Nintendo (or they see them as the next customer to buy a Wii.) Is the one-system model fair to people that don't pirate? Maybe not, but like you said, if they are being responsible with the hardware, they shouldn't have to worry about it.

  • I wish I wasn't in the same situation with a lot of Virtual Console stuff and a wii about to break. I get some weird flickering pixel appearing when some graphic effect happen.

  • I couldn't agree more. I've had the same thing happen to me with iTunes. At least apple will actually cave in eventually and send you a back-up.

  • Well your kinda lucky becouse atleast yours works mine wont read all my disks

  • That's nice of them to do it for free this time!

I can only hope that if mine ever does they'l be nice to me, though I do only have Alex Kidd...

  • mircosoft and sony got it right to me its weird to not transfer data from one system to another and if all system are going to be motion control hope not it should have all put on all systems it no down side the game makers will make more money.

  • IT PRINTS MONEY BITCH!!!!

  • I suppose it makes sence though since on 360 (and probably PS3) the games are attached to the user account and not the console, simple solution for nintendo is they should supply a code when you buy a game so you can redownload it for free when you get a new console. OK it won't help against piracy but lets face it they are fighting a loseing battle there

  • Yea, nintendo's online is like playing blind and having no identity. Animosity at its best you could say. Microsoft and Sony have it better since the games are data linked to your acount. It doesn't cost anything to reproduce data for something you already bought so they wouldn't make you repurchase the download. For some reason or another Nintendo thinks otherwise. But they do have cheaper games and consoles. So they do have another money maker besides extra peripherals for their stuff.

  • I personally like the account system that Steam has on their games. Basically, if you buy the game, it is registered as "bought" on your Steam account, and you can download it repeatedly onto as many computers as you want. But when someone else signs in on a computer with your game, and they personally haven't bought the game, they aren't allowed to play it until they've bought it.

  • Samm, take a looksee at videogame911(dot)com if you decide to have your wii repaired. That's how I got my PS3 repaired because I didn't want to risk them simply sending a refurbished replacement.

  • It's called DRM (Digital Rights/Restrictions Management), and it's defective by design. There are campaigns to get that shit illegal. Search for "drm defective by design". All three console companies mentioned use DRM, in one way or another, not just Nintendo.

  • Policy for DLC on the 360 depends on what the content actually is. For the most part DLC can be used on any console by any user with no problems, but certain games can only be used/executed by the gamertag they were downloaded by.

For example: Castle crashers. You can't load my copy of castle crashers and I can't use the bonus characters if you've downloaded them.

That said: Nintendo's policy is particularly retarded. You've bought the game, it should be yours to do with what you like.

  • Hmmm...not much of a Nintnedo fan and I don't really see the Wii as a proper console.

  • It does kind of encourage people to pirate games.

It makes games so intangible, like you're renting them rather than buying.

Nintendo should just link downloaded games to an account rather than a console like (I presume) microsoft and sony does.

Although it does speak of great confidence in their consoles durability and quality, does still suck screwing loyal customers like that.

  • i think that nintendo should do what sony does and make it so when you login on a ps3 with your account you can redownload what you already got

  • Is it me or do the next gen consoles seem to be crapping out more than the older ones?

  • @bloodguzzler Sigh, I was actually hoping I wouldn't get thumbs up for my comment but it seems sad but true...

  • @bloodguzzler I know. My N64 still works with no flaws what so ever. Ive been through 5 damn 360's, and 3 ps3s. Luckily my Wii that I got at launch still works great.

  • @Brandon5l9 You've bought 5 fucking 360's?! Jeez man, stop making those already filthy rich scumbags at Microcrap even richer.

  • @vio2112 Meh, I dont care. 360 has the best selection of games in my opinion, and it easily has the best online of the 3. It is bullshit though.

  • @Brandon5l9 I agree it has the best online, but I probably would have stopped at 2. But hey, it's your money and it's not my place to tell you how to spend it. All I know is Microcrap will never get my money. :)

  • @bloodguzzler Yeah, they do. I'm not entirely surprised that the 360's had the red ring of death disaster being that it's a Microcrap product and everything they make is complete garbage, which makes it even more perplexing that sooo many people garble up most of their shit(like the 360), but Wii's breaking surprises me. Maybe game consoles are getting overly complex now. The old 8-bit and 16-bit systems lasted forever and many are STILL working today.

  • Microsoft and Sony have it right, it's just good policy to return games to people that have already bought them. I understand that Nintendo's trying to prevent piracy but I think they severely overestimated their console with this policy, considering it hinges on your system NEVER breaking or your customer being willing to shell out the cash to get it fixed through you.

  • Oh did ya hear about how DA:2 is pretty much gonna be like Mass Effect. Oh and how do you feel about the 3DS?

  • I've got a PS3 and xbox 360, along with a Wii. My PS3 is still the first one I've ever gotten and works, though my xbox is probably the third I've gone through. However, Microsoft did have it right that everything I had bought before I could just download again at no charge. In fact, the only thing I have to complain about with swapping xboxs is that I have to swap to begin with. My Wii is certainly sturdy, but Nintendo should really make it so downloads can be moved when it finally does break.

  • I don't know much about consoles, since I don't own one myself. But every one of them should take an example to Steam.

You can download a game however many times you want. The only thing that's needed to play them is be logged into the account it's registered to, and there can only be 1 person logged into the account at a time.

    This works extremely well imo.

  • Can't SD cards fix the problem, i mean it sucks that you can't get them onto another system but can't you put them on the SD card when you buy them?

  • @SwiftNinjaMan You can play off an SD card, but ONLY on the ONE console it is licensed to. So if her Wii broke and she bought a new one at a retailer, she couldn't transfer it without Nintendo's help.

  • @gremlinzrus Aww that stinks! I always thought you could just put games on an SD card and just take it out and put it into another console -___- But i guess you can't

  • @SwiftNinjaMan what Gremz said.

  • @SwiftNinjaMan Even if you put it onto an SD card, you can't play it on any other console..

  • I think that if they just extended the Club Nintendo information - you can link your Nintendo shit (including VC and WiiWare) to it and take surveys - as a kind of gamertag, then they'd be able to do that shit pretty easily. Even if they had to make a new system, it shouldn't be THAT hard.

As it stands, though, Nintendo is fucking backwards as far as online stuff goes. This transferability problem probably hurt sales of the black Wii when it came out, 'cause I would've bought one otherwise.

  • If you were to get a new Wii, it should recognize your IP address or something and make your previously downloaded games free for you to get again. That would solve so many problems, and now I'm really hoping that my Wii holds out for a long time. :(

  • woot new video!... yeah i dont own any console (pc gamer here) so i dont have anything to say really... but i agree, is stoopid.

  • That's a stupid policy. A rip off on all counts - either 85 dollars for a repair and a long wait, or having to download and re-buy all the games. Good about the waiving of the first fee though, that's good in terms of customer relations and loyalty.

I think you should be able to back-up the games you've downloaded at least, even if it's to an SD card, if that's even possible. If not, some record should be kept of it, even if it's as risky as previous credit card information.

  • It's really not hard to use a user required login to download and force people to be logged on to play games, as it would be that would require a single server wi-fi connection, so that'd be more effective. One point for PC gaming I guess?

I need to find the wires for my SNES and N64, I have the consoles and controllers but can't find the wires >><.

  • It should be like Steam/PS3/Xbox where it's purchased to your account, not your console.
