  • отличный звук ! спасибо !

  • Awesome man, just awesome!!!!

  • can you upload the all along the watch tower from this concert to another site like megaupload and give me the link? please i love that version!!

  • anyone know what tuning this is in?

  • @MegaAverageandy just go up to where it says show more.

  • I love how he makes the audience included on his performance on a whole new level. It must have been magical to watch him perform live before he died.

  • @Confusingish

Very very true! I was lucky to have seen him 7-8 times late 80s--97.....a few times within 10 feet or so at a small club like The Ark in Ann Arbor.....very electric event. Funny as hell and joyous. Got to meet him for a few just before he dies...back then I only sort of realized his brilliance.

  • WOW he held that last note for a long time! It's funny, I always think of Hedges as a guitarist and sort of forget what a great singer he was....

  • this nigga is bad ass

  • amazing guitar playing and amazing vocals!!!

  • Hey Type3, thanks for uploading all these Michael Hedges clips, they're beyond amazing! It's such a shame YouTube pulled the All Along The Watchtower from this performance as it was the best version. Is it available anywhere else?

  • what heart!

  • so nice

  • complete free spirit

  • The tuning's DGDGGD but half a step down by the way. Love this performance.

  • 6:58 - 7:25 Yep. He definitely didn't smoke.

  • Wooooooow. That was one of the best performances I've ever been to, and I wasn't even there.

  • i never saw someone making the audience literally sing a bassline to any song...BRILLIANT !!! and then later also other parts, how cool is that ??? if you can do something like this you'r doin' yo shit right :)

what an awesome dude with awesome voice !

  • Fantastic rendition by one of the greats!

  • What type of guitar is he playing. It kind of sounds like a Taylor, but i don't know just sounds like one.

  • this is such a wonderfully playful version of this song...thank you for all your posts on this supreme and greatly missed musician...what a joy to be able to see him here for those like myself who missed seeing him live...

  • In respect to tuning, all musicians usually DO tune beforehand... but, the guitars are affected by sitting there under those hot stage lights, and usually need a little tweaking.

  • Fuck man...Micheal Hedges is amazing like always......

  • A guitar can go out of tune quickly with small changes in temperature or humidity. Also a guitar tuner (as probably tuned to before hand) is never as accurate as your ear.

  • Goddamn he had a lot to say!

  • @teepeeth If you mean the 2ish minutes of talking in the beginning, I believe it's partly because he's trying to multi-task tuning and keeping the crowd entertained.

  • @jkshoujk True...

  • im only 21. i stumbled upon Hedges' masterful reincarnation of All along the Watchtower over a year ago. i will admit that much of my generation has terrible taste. however, i was only lucky enough to escape it due to my being immersed in 80s and classic rock as a child. if i hadnt been given that initial jumpstart of musical enlightenment im afraid i wouldnt have found Hedge's great gifts to the world. my only wish is that i could be able to experience the synergy that this crowd surely did.

  • Он cамый лучший!

    The Best!

    Der Beste!

  • an entertainer in the true sense of the word and a guitarist in the true sense of the instrument. R.I.P.

  • Again I wonder why do guitarists tune their guitars just when they're about to perform, why not earlier before they appear on stage.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 Hedges used different, non-standard tunings for every song, so he had to retune every song. Later in his career, he had some backstage people tune guitars in advance in his setlist, and he'd switch between different guitars. But sometimes, he'd just feel like playing a tune he didn't plan for, and would tune on the spot.

  • @type3secretion Wheres all along the watchtower from this performance?

  • @AlwaysAbiggerFish YouTube yanked it for copyright violation. :(

  • @type3secretion That was an amazing performance, I might post it up myself then, if you don't want to risk getting more videos down

  • @type3secretion nooooo...i loved all along the watchtower from this performance...good thing i ripped the audio from the video a year or two ago :)

  • @saxophonefreak101 Yeah, it really sucks. I'm just hoping things stay quiet on that front. Hate to lose anymore, or have them get YouTube to shut the channel down. ;(

  • @type3secretion hi there type3

I loved that performance can you upload it on your megavideo chanel?

    Greets John Cussack

  • @type3secretion Great answer to a good question : )

    XX

  • @peacebeuponyou70 the guitar gets out of tune just after time

  • @peacebeuponyou70 This video isn't a parituclarly good example, but my experience of him tuning was that he was so incredibly musical that listening to him tune was a pleasure and a show in itself. HIs banter was often amusing as well. I never once found myself thinking "why do I have to listen to this?" Often you could hear the song he was about to play gradually emerging from the tuning process, something you hear around 1:30ish on this video.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 as a guitar player my self I needed to add the truth to your question. it's all about show, or being a show off as, listen to me, sometimes it is used to feel the Audiance response to may I see if I am in tune to feel the air a little. if the gutar siunds good in tune and you feel the vibs then it is a go but this guy couldn't play guitar even if he tried.

  • @peacebeuponyou70

About the tuning in general: Guitars tend to go out of tune also just by playing them. So it can easily be that your guitar is a bit out of tune after you played a song. Good guitars don't go out of tune much, bad guitars de-tune all the time. But all guitars go out of tune to a certain degree anyway. Also changes in temperature will make your guitar detune most of the time. And for Michael, it's just what type3secretion told you, he uses different tunings everytime. Regards!

  • @peacebeuponyou70 Variations in temperature, humidity, and the generally "live" nature of the wood of the instrument guarantee that a guitar will not stay in tune for very long. Even going from one room in a house to another will throw some guitars out of tune. Hell, I have an old SG shape LP Jr that goes out of tune because of the heat from my hands.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 They are constantly rechecking the tuning to make sure the song sounds good to you. Little strings are strummed and pulled out of tune during the performance.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 guitars go out of tune with only small temperature or humidity differences. Also A guitar tuner isn't as accurate as your ear.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 Because some songs require different tunings. It's easier to tune on stage rather than bring out 10+ guitars.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 you idiot!

  • @peacebeuponyou70

The stage lights are hot enough to detune a string in a short time.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 heat can have a lot of effect on strings....that and humidity can alter wood no matter how well it's seasoned and lacquered. Just a quick pull on a string can stretch it to flatless areas......that and the fact true players piss on AutoTune

  • @peacebeuponyou70 May not be the same story for everybody, but this guy is using a capo, and plays in about twenty different tunings a night. Not everyone can afford a differint guitar for every tuning (like Eric Clapton). This guy at least attempts to keep the audience occupied with conversation while he's doing it.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 weather or not you are using alternate tuning, a guitar will go out of tune a tiny bit after each song you play. It is very importantant to have your guitar intune before you start a new song, so most guitarist check their tuning, alot of guitarist now adays use eletric tuners so you might not notice them checking the tuning. Its actually a bad thing to alway reliy on the ele. tuner, You should first learn to tune a guitar by ear before you buy an eletric tuner.

  • @peacebeuponyou70 what a retard

  • Holy shit, that last note. Incredible performance.

  • @communistfriend

Michael told (1983?) that he's taking voice lessons from Bobby McFerrin. Bobby appeared as vocal on Michael's "The Streamlined Man". His name some times appeared on CD credits (other times, not - weird).

    Cheers

    Chief

  • Michael died way too early! I miss what he would have created if if not for his untimely death. RIP.

  • 7:00 to 7:25 wow!!!

  • This really was unbelievable!

    Like, it was so amazing!

  • Awesome..

  • True artistry...you'll never hear quality music like this in the commercial MTV world.

  • this performance is simply unbelievable.

    JT

  • the theatre that this was performed in is called Mahaiwe, and it has a great history! It's on the web.

  • This is my favourite performance of all time. When it comes to sharing the experience and joy of music this is the pinacle. I truly beleive THIS is what music is all about. Listen to that crowd. R.i.p.

  • @MitchPennell Well said! I agree!

  • When I heard Michael play for the first time, it was an instrumental piece. I never expected such a beautiful voice with guitar skills like that.

This guy was without peers. Amazing.

  • this was recorded on the day of my birth 8/1/87, wow wish he was still around =/

  • @GuitarAddict420 You had until age 10 to see him, I had until age 2, so you had as much chance as I did lol

  • He will live forever in his music

  • I saw him twice, in small venues in Atlanta, and with each passing year I appreciate how lucky I was to do so.

  • What would that make you then? Grow up!

  • Breath taking

  • nn riesco a vedere tutta questa genialità...sarà che mi sbaglio....!!boh

  • Yes genitalia, what he said...

  • Absolute genius.

  • Such an amazing talent.....

  • If you realize that all things change

there is nothing you will try to hold on to.

If you arent afraid of dying,

there is nothing you cant achieve.

    Trying to control the future

is like trying to take the master carpenters place.

When you handle the master carpenters tools,

chances are that youll cut your hand.

  • What does he sing in the end with the high pitch voice, or is it just la la la na

  • "Ah, ah, ah!" I suppose it's just a habit when you're running out of breath to throw in a few syllables ;)

  • I don't know too much about Michael Hedges but around 1997 I bought a cd that liked so much. "Aerial Boundaries". It was an incredible musical experience. I never knew that this musician has gone truely a sad thing. I like so much his style to play the guitar.

  • I'd call him incredible, but the word incredible just isn't adequate. And the funny thing about it is that so much of what he was able to do was rooted in being relaxed and present - seeing and interacting with what is and what's possible, without developing tension about it. Look at the way he stands and uses his arms - total efficiency and comfort. And listen to that ending note...think of how relaxed and aware he had to be to draw in that kind of breath and use it that effectively...whoa!

  • "Michael was unique. His music transcends genre and trend. It's truly musical, fun and enlightening.

And thanks type3secretion for sharing this.

  • i love his music

    RIP Michael Hedges

  • 7:00 to 7:26 HOLY SHIT!

  • This guy is AWESOME! I feel badly that I have just recently discovered him. I just watched an interview of him at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and I live in Colorado. If I only knew then, what I know now I would have gone to see his show. Can anybody give me the history of this genius?

  • Go look on his site at Nomad land its all there.

    Genius..yes

  • jesus h christ. quite the last note... not only one of the greatest/most inventive guitarists ever, great singer too.

  • WOAH Michael is magic!

  • one of the greatest performances ive ever seen

  • epic =)

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shit, that was amazing

  • That was sweet

  • I love how he even makes tuning his guitar sound beautiful

  • @Volv093t I was just noticing the same thing. lol

  • Did you pick up on the Crowd participation? Hedges was one of the greats and died well before his name.. One could hope that you are remembered the way he is.

  • what the fuck is wrong with you?

  • Wow. If he was still alive he could of made Michael Hedges and the Backup Audience Band.

  • I'm new to this guy, so someone help me out here. What era was he in, when and why did he die, I WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE???

  • I like the part when he says Gotmonkeyfinger

  • His performance of this song gives me that feeling that you can't put into words.

  • Saw Hedges do this live in a club in Cambridge MA a number of years ago. Everyone was literally dancing on the tables. I do have the tab somewhere - used to play this. I'll look for it.

  • yes, PLEASE! I'm trying to figure this out right now, but I can't get anything but the barred chords.

Too bad I'm sooo young. When he died I was stuck in a boring school learning basic math and being bullied by fatties :(.

Thanks type3 this videos is wonderful (^_^)

    5/5

  • Now thats how you play to a crowd

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • He's got a little Steve Martin in him. Excellent.

  • This guy fucking rocks my world. What a great voice, great sense of humor, great guitar playing, great presence. It's really sad that I never got to see him live =(

  • Evan? omg

  • I can now play this :D:D

  • Ah--- God, that was truly spectacular.

  • the song is entitled "come together"..THAT he managed to do..fantastic!

  • How could anyone give this a bad review?

    5/5!

  • Give a bad review? Simple ignorance. Anyone who has picked up a guitar or sung a song who calls this "rape" doesn't know the art. We have to forgive their (his) ignorance.

Check the recorded live performance of this on "Live at the Double Planet". You get the "final" version, and it's awesome.

  • Hedges's stage presence was absolutely stunning. I wish I'd had the opportunity to see him in concert.

  • Had the opportunity to see him 3 times here in New England. You never blinked when he played on stage. A show for 2 hours seemed like one minute.

Met him at one show in Maine, just a soft spoken down to earth great guy....along with Manring.

Times I will never forget and a true inspiration.

  • Does anyone have the tab?!

  • Unbelievable. I would love to have been there.

  • Jealous XP

  • Hedges was a prophet.

  • Fantastic how he deals with the public here! Hedges was great on all sides.

  • Great Style, Great solo artist.

  • What is with all the cunts badmouthing Michael??? I dont see any of you pricks up on stage being worshiped by Joe Satriani and other famous guitarists...Wanks!!!

  • bravo...interpretazione ottima...

  • Thanks Matt..that was a cool cover of Come Together....I like...Jerry

  • Man, the last part is awesome, just like professional matured singer.

  • wow, this guy is Matthew Andrea's influence. Awesome. this cover is pure genius and he captured the audience with greatness.

  • Check out John Butlers version

  • The Beatles are the best and most influential group of my life time,as well as my favorite, but John Lennon could not pick up a guitar beside Michael. He was special and I miss him.
