But the reason companies need to own IP addresses is so the domain name system works. To make DNS efficient it is distributed, so any updates take a fairly long time. If Google's IP changed all the time then there would be long period where google.com would not resolve to the correct IP.
Anyone who runs a website needs a static IP, unless they're prepared for downtime.

This bill would do nothing against actual piracy, it would only allow copyright owners to harass content sites and get them to remove fair use material out of fear.

In response, the uploader has to file a counter claim, them the filer has to decide if they want to allow the content back up, or take it to court.

Weeeell, a lot of home users own IP addresses too, or at least rent them on a permanent basis.
But the reason companies need to own IP addresses is so the domain name system works. To make DNS efficient it is distributed, so any updates take a fairly long time. If Google's IP changed all the time then there would be long period where google.com would not resolve to the correct IP.
Anyone who runs a website needs a static IP, unless they're prepared for downtime.

What to share, what not to.
To share a thing, it has to be clear the whole thing. Like, the conditions when reader have to abide by that is clearly experimented, safe, and even when unsafe should have clear instructions of what to do. There are things that should not be shared at all.
For example of things that should never be shared at all, here is one. Assume the existence of Vampire overlord creating a vampire family in the world. The process after the public knows about the Vampire would be?

No bill or legislation could ever achieve such a ridiculous thing like stopping copyright violations. What is being copied are thoughts and ideas. The digital network man has made for himself is vast and infinite, and is almost like a collective unconscious. This is between people and corporations, but corporations are just ideas built up and given power by other people. Oh, I don't know. In the days of only three TV stations, it took only seconds to figure out that there's nothing on but crap and decide to go do something other than watch TV. Nowadays, with so many channels, this is the sort of thing one never really has figured out, so nowadays, network executives don't really come under any real pressure to come up with good content and that's why there's nothing good on.

In addition to just typing in the IP address, you would be able so get around SOPA by using a domain name server that doesn't have to comply with the law (i.e. one outside the US) as one of your default domain name servers, thus avoiding the hassle of remembering/typing IP addresses. This bill would do nothing against actual piracy, it would only allow copyright owners to harass content sites and get them to remove fair use material out of fear.

@MasauFuku A lot of content sites (i.e. youtube) *already* take down copyrighted material in accordance with the DMCA, which requires them to remove any content that has a DMCA claim filed against it. In response, the uploader has to file a counter claim, them the filer has to decide if they want to allow the content back up, or take it to court.

Parodies, like the many Abridged series? Jail time. Daily Show with John Stewart? Finished because they don't have the budget for all the clips they keep using. Fair Use will be gone. Yeah, it's bad.

This video needs to be everywhere. We're at the dawn of a new era and it's getting scary. The fact that this is even real should be scary. The fact that a large group of people with power over us ACTUALLY want to do this means we can't trust them. Just like the clause in the NDAA that allowed undue process (detention of american citizens without trial), this should be that dealbreaker issue where if you know someone supported it, they are dead to you
