I am always amazed when people don't get it about Massine - he was quite simply the most extraordinary rhythmic dancer - with great musical fluidity. His upper back looks a bit stiff though and the material although rich, probably looks stylised in an old fashioned way to our eyes now. Thanks for uploading! I didn't know it!
I NEVER WAS A GREAT FAN OF THE MALE DANCERS OF THE LATE DIAGHILEV PERIOD ,BUT AMONG THEM THE MOST INSUFFERABLE IS IMO MASSINE ,I WONDER IF HE SOMETIME HAD SOME LESSON OF CLASSIC DANCE ,IF YES HE WAS PROBABILY SLEEPING.
hi pediatrapaola - me either - that is, about not being particularly in enamoured with the late diaghilev male dancers - LOL about massine looking the other way during classical class!
@nickwallacesmith HE WAS PARTICULARY IRRITANTING WHEN ACTING IN RED SHOES WITH HIS IDIOTIC SIMILAR SPANISH DANCING IN THE ROLE OF THE DANCE TEACHER ,REALLY AWFUL
@nickwallacesmith There is a dark side to ballet. Old dancers can often make amazingly cruel and bitchy remarks about each other, some less than true. They can also be amazingly nasty as individuals. Perhaps it is the lifetime of physical suffering they must endure to excel at their art. I knew one who beat his children with a cossack whip. Tragically, as so often happens, the abused became abusers themselves.
@nickwallacesmith I know nothing of the new ballet world. I have had nothing to do with it for more than forty years and what I did have to do with it was via my mother who had been a dancer in Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo. There were many nice people among them, but the baddies were something. When I was young, I unwittingly became the boy toy of a former female dancer for a time. It took me forty years to realize. So I should say no more, in the interests of remaining a gentleman. :)
hi vladdrac88 - i'm sure some of the things you mention that happen in the ballet world happen else where too - 'c'est la vie'. and good of you to maintain a dignified silence. cheers!
@nickwallacesmith Without doubt, such things happen to young men and women from 'all walks of life' regularly. There are songs and even a ballet or two about foolish young men and women. No doubt, what I'm feeling now is entirely an ego problem; having allowed myself to be so thoroughly fooled for so long. As you say- 'c'est la vie'. Thank you for you're soothing responses. No more need be said. :)
@Tamara02031919 I AM A GREAT FAN OF TAMARA ,BUT REALLY FIND INSUFFERABLE THE SIMILAR SPANISH IDIOTIC DANCING OF THE AWFUL MASSINE.NEVER UNDRESTOOD THE MISTERIOUS REASON BECAUSE HE IS CONSIDERED A GREAT DANCER.
