    /watch?v=TCas4Vm090o

I hope you guys like it

Thumps up would been awesome !

  • @funkdogg i never said abything about jazz or funkbands not being able to play rock?

  • Before i was a metalhead. My dad is a real funklover. He plays bass guitar, he influenced my life, so much i wanted to play bass to. So i started playing metal music on of his old modulus bass, a christmas i got my own bass, then i realized something, jazz & funk was actually really cool after playing bass for some time. I'm 12, turning 13 in some days, and wondering how could this happen?

how could i simply just be a metalhead listing to mostly death metal, turn into a funklover, like my dad?

  • @BassistLekang .....well ive done exactly the same thing and im 39......the simple answer is music is music, you just got to find the style you enjoy the most

  • @BassistLekang 'who says a funkband can't play rock!?' .funkadelic.

  • @BassistLekang Music is universal. Good music is good music no matter where you live on this planet or your cultural background. I f the funk is in you get with the FUNK!

  • @BassistLekang funk and blues is where its at man.

  • Youtube needs to get rid of dislikes so there will stop being a dozen terrible formulaic jokes on every video's comments.

  • Go MACEO!!!! Is that Fred still on the Bone?

  • @xMrsmileyfacex nope, that's Greg Boyer! Just did a 3 day Jazz workshop in D.C. and he was one of the instructors there, hopefully he'll be back next year, they normally come back each year. such a killer bone player

  • @PROUDTOBEFAT Well I have to say he must be channeling Fred cause I couldnt tell.

  • @Casper3580 Hi ! Well it was one of those big DV cameras with a 1/2" sensor, and big lens. Proper television pro equipment in early 2000. Glad you like it ;-) Have you seen the interview ?... I got him to actually play his sax which he usually never does ! Such good memories, I love Maceo....

  • This is FUNK!

  • I am a music teacher. Let me say something. Music is 2 things. technical skill, and communicating a feeling. The great ones have both in varying proportions. This song "speaks" If you can't feel it, it's not for you. Like James Brown used to say

"put your hand on the box (radio) and feel this, if you've got any kind of soul you can feel it"

  • @uryic000 But before those two things - music is the artist. The most important thing, I believe, before developing your talent in ANY field of study is to develop your relationship with yourself and the rest of the world. And I don't mean that bullshit your parents/friends/society dropped on you, I mean creating your very own uniquely chosen perspective. Otherwise, who's is it all for? What's it worth? Not as much as you may think. You can't express who you are - if you aren't.

  • @lilypad885 Always have been......for decades!!

  • 14 people prefer corn.

  • Awesome!!!!! I'm going to see Maceo and the Band Sat 5/14/11 in Philadelphia :)

And he is so funky.. that I almost want to give it to him..... cause I adore the funk!

Mr Maceo? You want it? You are bad ass. You might get it for free! FREE Mr. Maceo Parker.....

Like Tupac said.. How do you want it? lmao

  • @JazzyBelle30 ......what?

  • that's pure funk, babe!

  • 4:15 - I wish my feet made this sound every time I walked down the street.

  • 3:51 - the alternate ending of The Shining that the producers cut because Jack looked too happy and they thought it would ruin the movie.

  • 1:45------> I had a heart attack

  • ...."Well pass them mo' foes then!!!"

  • DAMN!

  • a little blues for the keyboard player !!!

  • A mighty laid back version of a mighty laidback funk master, love it!!!!!

  • maceo is soooo good live... oh man toronto jazz fest he just bitched that sax

  • @walkandskank me too! well me in athens at 19:)

  • the slow tempo makes it even more nasty! Grrrrreat!..

  • do you know the name of the bass player?

  • @etgitano85 Rodney "Skeet" Curtis, used to play with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic I believe!

  • it looks like he´s using a Brilhart Ebolin mouthpiece.??

  • money

  • That's not Fred Wesley on the Trombone is it?

  • @dq9 No its Greg Boyer

  • More Maceo !!!!!!

  • saw them live yesterday, it was DA BOMB! if you get the chance, go and see the show!

sooooooo much better than any youtube vid... it´s like the internet could only handle 30% of the funk and the rest got lost on the way ;)

  • pow pow pow

    originality

    black power gang

  • Gotta love the soul and funk !

  • pass the peas to the left hand side!

  • that was awomse but at the end... -.- what was that move he kept doing

  • Maceo Parker (Kinston, Carolina del Norte, 14 de febrero de 1943), saxofonista de jazz y funk estadounidense.

  • saw them perform live in germany in the mid 90's when i was a student... and i got to dance with maceo on stage. it was too funky for words. tight. a must see.

and IMO the most kickin' one!

  • @IdAnIsS c`mon, man , EVERYONE knows that.

  • "Simply because and the reason is..."

    Now that's funky.

  • That was the most funked up thing Ive ever seen.

I love the random dance at the end.

  • badass band

  • Thanks for sharing! Wonderful!

  • Great band, great sound. Thanks for the upload!

  • Even though I consider Grover Washington Jr the greatest Sax player ever,Maceo is right up there !!!!

  • Some funky ass peas!!! <3 u maceo x

  • One of the funkiest songs ever! This is on our playlist every single show.

  • slower = funkier

  • YES! I love it SLOWED DOWN!

  • uggias coglione

  • that organ solo is killing.

  • yes sir...

  • ...pass the peas

  • Those peas are f--king delicious.

  • The trumpet player is Ron Tooley, with Greg Boyer on trombone.

  • @mabrowndog Thank you very very much. Everyone kept saying that it was Fred Wesley....

  • Who's the trumpet player?

  • Comment removed

  • Merci pascal pour cette chanson ;)

  • thats not wesley.

  • Maceo plays a Selmer Mark VI, (which he has had goldplated) and a Brillard Eboline mouthpiece. He uses Vandoren Java 3 and a half reeds

  • A Saxophone

  • Pass the peas as we use to......

    Yeah so great!

  • Has anybody an idea how to get the sax notes?

  • LOLOLOLOLOL look at the crowd wtf, there jigging

  • ...the bone player is Greg Boyer! He's just incredibly good.

  • Maceo is the man

  • la classe!!!!maceo

  • man this is fraking awesome

by the way who is the trombone player?

  • I believe it's fred Wesley.

  • How can you think that is Fred Wesley? :p That trombone player could fit inside Wesley twice!

  • hahahaha

  • @thomaskrag lol, Fred Wesley ate that bone player!!

  • that bone player ripped that solo

  • skeet alway keep the funk dirty, playful, and and on the one....thats why he is one of the best bass players around.....

  • is this the group the same nowadays? i will see it tonight...

  • Oh, man! I was just talkin about "Pass the Peas" and James Brown with somebody!!

I want to see these guys and the Tower Of Power horns on one bill---I think I'd drop from the excitement!!

  • Suuuuuuuuuuuuuper Maceo

  • what's the name of the bone player in it?

  • fred wesley

  • Maceo, when are you coming back to New Orleans?? You cancelled the last show at the last minute, and we hadn't seen you since before Katrina, man! We could really use your funky stuff right about now, sir XO

  • Funky Trombone! My God!

  • dude just lays it down nice and fat behind that drum kit. nice snare sound

  • funk!!!

  • maceo is naaaasty. my band doesn't compare to this... we have a video of us doing this song on my channel though if you have the time. Once musicians start getting older, they fall into that relaxed groove... way deep in the pocket.

  • Nobody knows more about a Funky horn.

  • I saw him in concert once in seattle.

  • beyonce's band did some exerpts of this on her i am..tour:) very nice!!

  • such a deep groovin' funk pocket, LOVE IT

  • hot damn mutha funk! Very nice

  • this is one of the craziest funkiest pockets ive ever heard

  • Comment removed

  • Am I crazy or is that the same trombonist who works with Parliament? He's killin' it up there. And check out the threads. Someone is looking sharp.

  • he is so fucking amazing really, hes so great

  • mmm tasties

  • Looking forward to see them on Jam Cruise!!!

  • Maceo is the premier horn player. Has been since the 60's. His album, Maceo Parker is excellent. I forget what year it was released, but I have it and I listen to it constantly

  • Man, this is why I new alto...

I can't sound like that on mine even if I tried

  • that organ solo is just part of all that funkk

    don't hate

    oooOo ya

  • Im feelin this groove!!!!! And the Trombone and organ player is KILLIN IT!!!!!

  • who needs chords? just grrove like that and youll be fine... like chain of fools and exodus by bob marley

  • Does this bring back memories of a night in Ithaca, NY. . .

(No they don't involve a woman)

  • Hell I like that organ solo,,What's up with you haters? It was funky as a bitch!

  • That is funk at it´s best ,great musicans. You can feel it in a live concert,

but the mix of Maceo needs some new ideas for the future. I think a little of latin-touch can be a way.

  • This song gives me a serious case of lemon-face

  • sounds great!

  • Where's Pee Wee and Fred?

  • His band is real tight. Kinda reminds me of Kool and the Gang

  • you have a very arrogant name.

  • That's because I am a saxophone expert

  • that's not arrogant. if you're on an expert level, you have the right to call yourself an expert, assuming hes an expert. haha

  • haha true =D

  • so slick...maceo's a god amongst men...

  • Maceo's tone is amazing

  • Yeh, the tone is unique - soul funk and dinner jazz combined. I don't like the organ solo either, I like chords held down - sounds great on that set up, doesn't fit in with the melody - maybe just an off night as the guy can obviously play. And Merry Christmas.

  • i must say that despite being a pianist/hammond organist, i don't think much of that organ solo

  • Then I guess you don't like Larry Young either

  • I thought that kind of arrogance was reserved for guitar players.

  • well clearly it's a worldwide phenomenon. Dick.

  • It's Will Boulware - not a great solo, but the guy's been playing with Maceo for over 15 years, and he's considerably better than any of the others who've tried to play with Maceo. Especially that guys back in 03/04..

  • Man, those dudes are all Jazz guys. Just look what they can do with the funk. No one can touch that!

  • Maceo is so cool and groovy when he plays... check out the moves with the beat! gee fuuuuunkyy

  • what mouthpiece does he use?

  • His full setup: Mark 6 alto, Brilhart Eboline mouthpiece and 3 1/2 Java reeds.

What a funky sound it creates...

  • Normally hate trombones but I love this guy. Brilliant!

  • i love maceo parker!!!!you are my hero

  • how do you prononce maeco

  • you pronounce it ( May C O )

  • Thank you!

  • is that Frank Chastenier on organ? the same cat who's on "Roots and Grooves"

  • Funky drummer and awesome keyboard solo!

  • Oeh! He's good!

  • on a C instrument he's doing some sliding on an A9 chord... try using these notes in ascending order... C#, G, B (iii, VII, ii) then mimic from there... hope that helped
