Forgive me, I know the comment is a year old, but this needs saying - that's NOT democracy.

That's majoritarianism; democracy when combined with demagoguery.

In a true democracy, the majority can never be permitted to impose their will upon any minority.

True democracy means "decision-making input in proportion to the degree you are affected". You get this through deliberation and consensus, not majority votes where a mob can take over.

Do you think that is the fault of the youth, or a system imposed on them which teaches them to value material and self-interest above community and collective participation? The "youth" participate when they feel their voice can make a difference, which is the case in many of these experiences in participatory democracy across the americas.
