@cinemaker006 but they are applying that force WHILE THE BOAT IS STILL ROCKING THE OTHER WAY, thus negating the momentum, aka rocking. When you are on a swing, you put your legs forward when the swing stops and you are all the way back of the swing, not while you are still moving backwards.

@MarkizVonSchnitzel yes, they get the boat rocking. but then geoffrey rush tells the crew to untie the cargo (i.e. cannons barrels, etc..) which has a lot more mass than the crew, and therefore more momentum (p=mv) and this is what rocks the boat, as the crew tries to hang on
