His competition came to him as they were stepping THEIR games up. Trinidad, DLH, Taylor, Wright .. they all were coming to BHop who hadn't faced another champion in his own division until 2001. BHop gets props for finally moving up and facing Tarver, Calzaghe and Dawson, but before that he was ONLY fighting WW champions.

By the time Floyd fought Gatti, he was already a HOF. Nothing Floyd has done in the last 6 years has really added to his legacy because its already cemented in greatness. Every time Floyd laces up, he stands to lose status, not gain it. The same cannot be said about Martinez. He hasn't nearly reached that level of accomplishment.

Manny signed the contract,Bob Arum gave Floyd to weeks to sign the contract which the fight was supposed to take place around July 16th. They put up a clock to fool fans into believing that they were doing their part to make the fight happen, but they weren't. Its not backing out when you agree to something that's not even on the table. If Pacquiao wants the fight he should test up until the day. Its the randomness that keeps the fighters honest. Pac refused. Throughout negotiations Pac stated he was willing to take athletic commission tests, but not the USADA tests. Floyd relented to a 2 week cut off. Pac refused. Now that Floyd beat Mosley, Floyd demanded up to the fight testing, but Pac is only agreeing to a 2 week cutoff now.

@factsism11 Again, you show you don't know boxing. BHop NEVER beat anyone that Roy couldn't beat when Roy was in his prime. Since going up to HW and cutting off 26lbs of muscle in 6 weeks to face Tarver, YOU could beat Roy. Prior to HW, no one could even come close. BHop stayed at MW for 90% of his career and fought smaller guys who were coming up in weight. That's not P4P. Until BHop fought Keith Holmes in 2001 he hadn't faced a world champion. Did you know that?

Roy was NEVER the same after going up to HW. Never. BHop never went up in weight and did what Roy did. Every single boxing analyst, journalist and pundit agrees that Roy should have retired after his match with Ruiz. He spent millions acquiring that HW physique that he destroyed in a matter of months to make weight. You can't even discuss this intelligibly because you can't comprehend the fact that Jones was a shot fighter after Ruiz.

@factsism11 BHop waited till he was near 40 to get his career going. He stayed at MW for 16 years avoiding all types of competition. He didn't really step up his competition. His competition came to him as they were stepping THEIR games up. Trinidad, DLH, Taylor, Wright .. they all were coming to BHop who hadn't faced another champion in his own division until 2001. BHop gets props for finally moving up and facing Tarver, Calzaghe and Dawson, but before that he was ONLY fighting WW champions.

You're still operating under the impression that Roy was in his prime UNTIL he lost to Tarver, when in fact Jones looked terrible beating Tarver in the first fight. He didn't owe Tarver a rematch but when you have an ego the size of Jones' it will ultimately be your greatest foe. You need to stop typing and start doing some research into boxing. @factsism11 Shane was the #1 WW when Floyd beat him ... but not because I say so. Margarito's destruction of Cotto put him as the #1 true WW. Shane's destruction of Margarito put him at the top. Regardless as to whether Shane was at his best is not the issue. Shane has had opportunities to fight Floyd way back at lightweight, but that's beyond your scope of knowledge. Its all here on YouTube where Shane makes excuses.
Regardless though, Shane was #1 then, but Pac will only face him in defeat.

@factsism11 Tarver wouldn't even have been a star had he not beaten Jones. Jones had nothing to prove as far as furthering his legacy at that point. His ego was his own undoing. Tarver, no matter what he does, will be a footnote. No one will remember him as anything but beating the best of an era when the best got old. Same goes for Glenn Johnson. They never did anything worth remembering except winning over name recognition, and not prime talent.
You don't seem to be able to comprehend that.

@factsism11 When Floyd beat Baldomir, Baldomir was prime. Zab had lost to Baldomir because he faded in that fight, but the promotions had already generated enough buzz to make money off of that fight. But its not that anyone ever thought those guys would beat Floyd. They were the best at WW when Floyd began fighting in that division. Yet Floyd's legacy isn't built upon either of those wins. Your reasoning is flawed because you attempt to make this a "if this, then that" type of debate.

@factsism11 Floyd was a star since the 90's. Not only because he was an Olympian, but because he lived up to and exceeded the expectations put upon him consistently. By the time Floyd fought Gatti, he was already a HOF. Nothing Floyd has done in the last 6 years has really added to his legacy because its already cemented in greatness. Every time Floyd laces up, he stands to lose status, not gain it. The same cannot be said about Martinez. He hasn't nearly reached that level of accomplishment.

They were hailing Andre Berto as a top welterweight without him ever fighting world class competition! Same thing with James Kirkland!
Boxing in so desperate for stars that anyone who puts on a good show get hailed as P4P and possibly the best ever. That kind of hyperbole severely detracts from the sport.

@factsism11 There isn't 1 contradiction in my post. Read carefully. Paul could be considered on his way to P4P because his skills and his height have allowed him to compete at various weights. He's no boxing phenom like the others, but his willingness to fight at 3 weights against anyone who will fight him puts him in the right direction. He's still a baby in his career. There's no way he could be considered P4P. I told you it takes longevity at the top. You don't have to be undefeated though.
