As a Turk I really admire Armenian music, Gurdjieff is one man I respect. Now Arto and Ara. I hope we can further relations and prosper as true neighbours. What was beleived to happend in the past or what one side claims and the other rejects and v.v. It will loop and loop and loop around our heads for ages. The Zionist wanted mayhem in the area as haters of Christianity.
fact is we Turks want to close the Armenian Question, our Government offered the whole world every single Ottoman archive available to both Armenian Scholars of History but, Armenia refuses to provide their archives which is a shame as Armenia wants to get with Turkey too. We would like to live in peace with both our Greek neighbours and Armenian we had no problems until some Zionist Entity wanted Palestine. I enjoy both Armenian and Greek musical culture especially Gurdjieff the man is a saint
@Thraikios You know what? I'm a so called 'zionist'. non of israel's actions contributed the Armenian Genocide. maybe you should check some authentic history before you blame an entire nation.
the greek version of this song sang by Arvanitaki at 2004 closing olympic ceremony!!!!So that ceremony had both armenian greek elements !!!We have common culture and for what i can remember from the history there was many important armenians empirors of Byzantine. Also many linguistics like Meillet said about helleno-armenian branch of indoeuropean languages!!!yes shat siroum em Hayastan yev ankah artsah !greetings from Greece!!!
this is armenian music composed by Ara dinkjian. He has made albums with greek singer Eleftheria Arvanitaki. This music became the song "dynata dynata" by eleftheria!
@fazger1985 A lot of music I thought was Turkish and copied by Greeks and Armenian are in fact not Turkish, but arisen from the fact we lived and shared our cultures for 1000 years.
Baltetsi, your posts show only that your chauvinism blinded you. As a greek you should know better how many times you betrayed Armenians, preferring having alliance with turks over christian Armenians and you lost, you are losing and you will lose till you get who your brothers are.
Turks are the Greeks' enemies? Yes they are. They still are, regarding what they have done to Cyprus. But I respect my enemy, although I want to destroy it.
We Greeks are proud of fighting our enemy. For never given up to Turkification or islamization. For keeping our Hellenic spirits alive until rising up against the Ottoman opression and win our freedom. For not being neutral and for not selling ouir souls to the Turkish Shaitan. Armenians cannot say the same.
Armenians, by being always "neutral" sold their souls to the "Turkish Devil". When the Ottoman empire was about to collapse, they remembered that they had "ethnic and nationalist" aspirations (other than gold and jewellery) and so rebelled against the Turk. And the Turkish devil paid with the Devil's coin: The Genocide. Should it be condrmned ? Certainly. Should it be accepted and remembered? Sure. But Armenians suffered the curse their NEUTRALITY.
@Baltetsi Dude I think that you should study some history first. I am an Armenia, born in Greece and what I can say about those two nations is that we have a lot of things in common regarding culture and history. The first mistake that you are making is that the Armenian Genocide was a very well mastered plan and it was perfectly executed. Yes, Armenians rebelled against the Sultan at late 1890s and yes there was also a massacre as an answer to that (almost 300.000 people).
@Baltetsi Armenians unfortunately were always outnumbered and outgunned by their enemies. And once betrayed by the Byzantium, who didn't support them against the Seljuks with the known consequences for both Armenians and Greeks later...
Both Armenians and Greeks are proud nations, and I can not understand why there should be a contest here about who is prouder. And about fighting, slow your horses dude, as I said before I live in Greece, I see what is going on...
@Bigsofo27 I lived in Greece, served myself with the Greek army in Cyprus. Do not need an armenian to tell me what's up in Greece & Cyprus. I am not contesting who is prouder. I state my povs that surely many loyal & neutral armenians do not like.
@Bigsofo27 I totally agree with you. Both two nations are proud with unique and significant cultural heritage!!There was so many byzantine great emperors of armenian descent like Heraclius,Basil,Tzimiskis etc so both nation become more friends through the same history. But the most important is that in 1920 the prime minister of Greece E.Venizelos support an Armenian-Pontian country. If this took place today Armenia wouldnt be a landlocked country, having more strategic position. It would be a union!
Armenians were never involved in any revolutions against the Turkish as most Balkanic people did. Also, like Jews they never suffered persecution since they remained NEUTRAL against slaughters to other minorities.
We Greeks, fought the Turks and then the Bulgarians for what we thought was our ideal of Freedom and Greatness. They slaughtered us, they defeated us, they killed our people; and we slaughtered them, we killed them and defeated them too. It was war, war withought law ...
An Armenian and a Turk quarrelling. I think that a few certain facts are necesary to be highlighted. Devisirme (in Greek, paidomazoma) was performed initially to Christian Balkanic populations (mainly Greeks, but also Albanians, Moldovans, and Bulgarians) as well as Caucasians (Georgians, Circassians). Armenians (as well as Jews) were EXEMPTED from forced conscription. It is interesting to state that Ottomans considered Armenians as the "loyal millet".
I thought, honestly, that this was a Turkish music. We have songs with this melody. We love it :) Armenian people, you hate us but our cultures are very similar.
Cultures are similar because the Ottomans and Seljuk Turks absorbed the culture of their native peoples since they did not have one of their own - they were a sedentary and culturally inferior people. The reason the hate exists and continues to exists is because you steal our culture, stole our lands, destroy our historical and cultural monuments, destroy our churches, and you exterminated the Armenians of the Armenian Highlands which have thrived there for thousands of years. And you deny this
In the past there weren't difference between people. All people who live under the administration of Ottoman Empire were equal. They were all saying 'we are ottomans'. Once upon a time Armenians were known as millet-i sadıka or loyal millet. But the racialist ideas which appear after renaissance effected the people whom live under the administration of Ottoman. So they rebelled against Ottoman during the world war. And they are relegated to a post in east. Armed gangs also stopped.
You must know nothing of the administration and religious nature of the Ottoman Empire or you must have been raised and educated in a Turkish school where the national educational curricula was set by the ultra-nationalists and by your idol 'Ataturk'. Have you ever heard of slaves being a universal component of Ottoman society? Have you ever heard of regular religious persecutions? Have you ever heard of cultural genocide and repression of any form of artistic or cultural expression by anyone?
Have you heard of the Islamic laws in Turkey prohibiting a Christian from rising above ground, prohibiting a Christian from riding a horse or donkey, prohibiting a Christian from building his house above that of a Muslim's, prohibiting Christians from having legal rights, prohibiting Christians and their word in court against a Musliim, have you heard of the kidnappings of Christian children who became your prized Jannissarries (again something not Turkish which is worshipped & claimed Turkish)?
One of the most noteworthy attributes of Ottoman Turkish rule was Ottoman toleration of different religious beliefs. The Turks of the Ottoman Empire were Muslims, but they did not force their religions on others. Christians and Jews in the Empire prayed in their own churches or synagogues, taught their religion in their own schools and seminaries, and went about their business, sometimes amassing great fortunes. At that time, Ottoman toleration was unique.
Yes I have heard of them. The Janissaries became the first Ottoman standing army, replacing forces that mostly comprised tribal warriors (ghazis). The first Janissary units were formed from prisoners of war and slaves, probably as a result of the sultan taking his traditional one-fifth share of his army's booty in kind rather than cash. From the 1380s onwards, their ranks were filled under the devşirme system, where feudal dues were paid by service to the sultan.
The Janissary system appear because of the military needs of the empire.
The system of devsirme (janissary system) was introduced under sultan Murad 2 in the 1420's, and was a result of the military needs of the fast growing empire: it needed loyal army troops in high numbers, as well as reliable civil servants in the palace and in the administration.
And they used to have a long education, normally extending beyond 14 years.
Have you heard of subjecting non-Muslim-Turks to entirely different sets of social, legal, political, economic, and religious structures. Life in the Ottoman Empire was rigid, highly discriminatory, and extremely heirarchical. Turkish rule was brutal, arbitrary, and oppressive. The paper in your propoganda is worth less than the paper that I wipe my ass with. Please do not get me started on the nautre of Turkish society and Turkish rule.
You yourself mention Armenia's position in the Ottoman Empire as the loyal millet, and I will go further and mention the accomplishments of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as forming the backbone of Turkish social venues and cultural institutions, architecting Turkey's economic, financial, and commercial sectors, and occupying the highest levels of political power in Turkey apart from the Sultanate. This is not a result of Turkey's tolerance, this is a testament to the Armenian spirit.
You are also incorrect concerning the "renaissance". The Renaissance is generally noted as the marker denoting two very different eras of European history. The Age of Nationalism occurred in the mid-18th century and at the turn of the century. It certainly made people aware of their cultural identities and imbued Armenians with a sense of national consciousness but you fail to realize that a major part of that was Armenians' wish for reform within the exisitng framework of the Ottoman gov't.
Have you ever realized how the Young Turks and the Committee of Union and Progress came into power? Their most loyal supporters were Armenians who wanted to be recognized as equal citizens in Turkey and not as second-class citizens. The CUP subscirbed to a silly notion called 'Turanism,' or 'Pan-Turan/Turkism'. Strategically, militarily, and socio-ethnically Armenians were a major obstacle.
Couple that with extreme anti-Christian sentiments already deeply imbedded in Turkey, now being fanned and stoked by stories of Christian 'atrocities' in the Balkans, and add to that the atmosphere of fear, paranoia, and hatred, you have a disastrous recipe. Anatolia was Turkey's last remaniing colony. Everyone knows what happened next. A stateless, male-less, leaderless, and weapon-less population of women and children conducted a civil war against Turkey and slaughtered millions of Muslims.
There aren't anti Christian people in Turkey. Every citizen's freedom of belief is guaranteed by law. I had a conversation with a missionary recently. We exchanged ideas with one another.
"atmosphere of fear, paranoia, and hatred.." This is your recipe. Our recipe is quite different! "fellowship, cultural wealth, mutual respect, living together"
The people of this territory lived brotherly through long ages. And they will live forever with the grace and favor of God.
As your other statements, your last statement about what happened is wrong. Only minor of Ermenians rebeled against Ottomans. Majority of Ermenians who live under the government of Ottoman didn't abet. They join in near Ottomans. Our Armenian citizens in present day who live in modern Turkey are descendant of them. They said that would be barbarity and advised not to do that. Rebels killed lots of innocent people children and woman. So they paid the penalty.
In my opinion most of the countries would do the same if they were in Ottoman's stead.
The claims which mentions about destroying churchs, monuments are not true. Fatih II was the first one who gave freedom of belief to other people. You may have a look at Mehmed II's Firman on the freedom of the Bosnian Franciscans on the wikipedia. And if that was the case the countries like Serbia, Bulgaria should be Muslim not Christian.
You must be crazy to say such a thing. Turks were characterized by their brutal destruction of anything civilized. Throughout their history. These are not "claims". They are concrete statements supported by a large body of evidence. Go to Ani today, Marash, Adana, Erzeroum, Van, Trabzon, Sivas, Diyarbakir, any ancient Armenian city and you will see Kurds using our ancient stones to build their houses and using our sacred churches as barns for their animals. This is the ultimate disgrace.
