Where would you recomend to get records in the U.S. I am super new at all of this and I am just starting to build my dj equipment meaning I am starting to buy it and also how to artists such as bassnectar or skrillex make there own dubstep mix are they just doing the same thing as you are doing in your vids like mixing different tracks or is there a way to create a whole track without other peoples tracks. I hope this makes sense please get back to me.
@jsmooth181 yes there is a way of creating a whole song without other peoples tracks its called playing an instrament. only kidding what skrillex, bass necter and loads of others do is producing with software called a digital audio workstation, if your intrested in learning to make your own tracks theres loads of videos for that
@fuckudevin443 Yes he chose them so they sound well together, you listen to the keys of the song. If you just randomly pick them it could sound well but most of the time you'll find that it just won't blend in with each other.. so if you're planning on mixing or you do mix listen to the keys of the song before you go and record a mix/do a mix at a gig. Practice is everything :)
@DJTwiggiee Thanks man. I'm a newbie, so how do you figure out the keys? Or do I have to go get myself a music major degree before I learn more about this.
@fuckudevin443 Here to help man :) It's extremely hard to to figure out the keys.. it's kinda like imagine this is me singing right.. and i do this "ooooooooooooooo" really deeply right and then i sung "aaaaaaaaaaaa" really lightly.. these wouldn't go together because one is really low and doesn't concentrate on you high notes and the other concentrates on the high notes and not the low notes. it's the same with a song, i really hope this helped :P i think i'm confusing my self as well :P
you never pitchbend on the platter. is there a specific reason for that? or are you just used to doing this way? because as good as your demo mixes are, they could still be somewhat snappier with a faster tempo change when they're drifting.
@QBziZ he said in a past video that he learned to mix using belt drive turntables, meaning a belt spins the platter not a direct motor like on a direct drive turntable. when you try and pitchbend on it will fuck up and either go wayyyyy too slow or wayy too fast, so he just learned to use the pitchfader, and thats how im learning, to me it seems easier. i never reallt got the point of pitchbending while beatmatching. but when it comes to mixing and beatmatching you can do it anyway you want
i love this guy ay, all of his videos have the entertainment factor and repetition which make it espcially easy to get and learn what he is saying. keep up the awesome tutorials man
@Tumppe1337 hi i hav used dat mixer and yea its a great budget mixer/beginer mixer the headphone jack placement is abit of an odd place and the faders r abit light but id say go for it i got 1 for £180 if i were u id go second-hand if ur a novice dj
sorry but which one is the first record? i cannot find any soundexamples in the internet for any of the titles you wrote down. would be nice to know. i mean the black one on the right side with the red dot. thanx for posting these vids! really appreaciate your work!
@doctorshabs As far as I know, it makes it so that as long as you hold it down, it plays from the cue point, and when you let go, it stops and returns to that point, so next time you hit it it starts from the cue point again. You can set an alternate cue point, but if you don't it automatically makes the cue point the beginning of the song. I'm not a DJ, I'm just going from what I've heard.
Did it sometimes, but I personally dont realy prefer bringing back tracks. It'll make the crowd think something like: 'Why the fuck would he ever do that? I already heard that song, I want a new one!'
This really is a great idea, i remember the first hed kandi cd i bought did something similar. They palyed a song (cant remember name) and then one of the last tracks was a remix of the same song(i think it was a different melody with the same acapella or something like that) but it's a real nice journey where you kind of end up back where you started. if you get what you mean???
Hi Johnathon. Great vid as always. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your channel. By the way, when do you plan on coming out to California? Thanks for your time.
I think you can get the most of this idea by using 3 cd or vinyl players. playing 1 song from beginning till the end & in the mean time mixing 2 other songs with 2 others. THAT should be something really interesting !
thats the way i mix bud shadow mix a call it. insted of mixin at the end mix 3 or more tracks in to one final peice. takes skill and heres a little capture cam to enjoy. thanks ur da man
I've come to the conclusion that all the time I'm using Traktor I'll never fully concentrate on the music for beatmixing. That might lead you to think I'm just hitting the sync button all the time. I'm not. The problem is from the go Traktor gives you a BPM so you know immediately which way your going to move the pitch control and you're visually adjusting and not really listening.
What am I getting at?
You'll never learn to sync as fast as J all the time I'm looking at a monitor screen.
@Technomonster93 Mousacy is right, if you find it hard to recognize, it's because he put a nice vinyl graph on there (or so I think it's a vinyl sticker)
It would be even cooler if you had a third deck handy there, I guess you could call the "filler" track a "tool" which is what I know them more as...you know them J' like some of those cuts that are beats only but go nicely with other things..thing is even better to have those two playing then mixing the third one in while fading out the two..A lot of people don't get tools...but thats where people like us come in ;-) The Bubble beats is a good example of a tool
this would work if you had a killer lyric that you played the track and then dropped it back in during a instramental break like 10 mins later, a great way to play with the crowd
Calling the left track L and right track R, can you effectively send the bass freq from L to sit over the top of R, and take the bass off R etc?
eg if L has got a killer bassline, you can whack the bass EQ up and lay it on top of R whilst you remove R bassline with EQ?

@jsmooth181 the very shiney rings in the record are usually a drop...no baseline.

PS: You're amazing man, this was REALLY helpful.
