Ice Road Truckers has gotten so phoney. I can't bear to watch the show anymore. My brother runs the ice roads, I've worked in the NWT alongside ice road truckers and even they comment on how phoney the show is. If you don't know how the ice roads and northern trucking works, don't believe this show...it's pure sensationalism. They, (the show) were kicked out of Yellowknife.
@LGVic LOL I agree... 100's of drivers run the ice roads with no probs but every week them IRT goofs have high drama and a lot of the time its stuff that any good driver would either have taken care of or not have done at all...
It`s wery like with Russian north truckers. But Russian North have not road absolutly. Many trucks just stay in tundra and drivers to. Very dangerous.
I ran the Mackinzie highway back in the mid 70s.The picture of the tank train through the ice was taken at Ft Providence ice bridge about 200 miles from Yellowknife and can be found on the Northwest territories site.It was just after the bridge was opened and there was a weight limit of about 2500 kilograms allowed at the time.
The 28 second mark is all wrong as there has to be 500 meters at least between trucks on the ice roads I ran
At the 28 second mark there is a line of trucks. If they were really on the ice then all of them would be through they are way to close to each other. I have done it for 10 years and we do not get that close.
Дорога по льду это конечно прикольно!Вот у нас от Новосиба отъедь 100км и все дороги с асфальтом и без зимой вольду:)А про наш север так я ваще молчу так как только зимой туда и можно добраться!!!
I`m totally proud to be one of those drivers to experience the demster 30 yrs after my Uncle broke trail with the masses of men to conquer the north --- Montreal to Inuvik for supplies for the township every trip N.I.C. GREAT EXPERIENCE no phone booths on this trail for 5 hrs Eagle plains --.

Wow, amazing courage. Kudos to those truckers. Stay safe! What are we looking at in the last pic of the slide show? Also, did the truck really go through the ice in 1:50 ??? Wow...
@tarantarans: Dempster Highway: a road to research
When work first started on the Dempster Highway in 1958, it was envisioned as one of Canada's major new "roads to resources," a way to open up the North to development.
Finally completed in 1979, the Dempster is now touted as an adventure highway -- the only year-round public road that crosses the Arctic Circle in North America.
The Dempster Highway crosses part of the vast region known as Beringia which remained free of ice during the last Ice Age when glaciers covered most of North America. Serving as a refuge for many different species of animals and plants, Beringia played an important role in the distribution of life found today.

Yes obviously there is a danger to driving a truck over ice, but nearly every episode was the same thing "omg Omg OMG...oh nothing happened but it COULD HAVE HAPPENED!" psh.
@sacr3 well it is dangerous if you would like to know a lot of the ice is not as thick as you think i have worked winter roads for the north west company i can tall you each year the ice is getting thinner and the season is getting shorter the amount of goods need to get shipped on the highway is starting to fall short some trucks are going 3/4 full to keep the weight down so the truck does not go through the ice and each truck enter the ice at a timed interval that's why u have less accidents
My son this video, is there any way you can make it into a screensaver for him. He is nine years old and is a biiiiiggg fan of IRT. This would be a big surprise for him. Please email me and let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
Anybody that knows anything about trucking know this show is a joke.I have dove up their in a big truck and it is not that bad just a bunch of goofy canadains!
Seeing as how the last few seasons have been in Alaska I'm not sure how its just a bunch of Goofy Canadians. I'll agree its a lot of fabricated drama, but Ice roads are no joke. pull your head out of your pill jar you old codger and give it a shake.
They tried to make this show sound way more dangerous than it is. Don't get me wrong, it is dangerous, but the announcer always goes on about how there's only 27 inches or so of ice. Really, by mid-season there's almost 5 feet of ice. Of course, having extreme danger is the only way to get the attention of the Americans nowadays. Us Canadians just sit around like it's a normal day.
@SuperHyperOverdrive agreed from Finland also..as well as that, southern parts of europe and the Uk are paralyzed when theres 15cm of snow.. In Finland when u wake up to yet another meter having fallen last night, u sigh..go outside and plough yourself out and get to work apologizing for being 5 min late.
@SuperHyperOverdrive@sacr3 well it is dangerous if you would like to know a lot of the ice is not as thick as you think i have worked winter roads for the north west company i can tall you each year the ice is getting thinner and the season is getting shorter the amount of goods need to get shipped on the highway is starting to fall short some trucks are going 3/4 full to keep the weight down so the truck does not go through the ice and each truck enter the ice at a timed interval for less
@SuperHyperOverdrive yeah I've spent most of my career up in the arctic driving on ice roads. It is a dangerous job but its not that dagerous. As for the ice the rules we go by when building an ice road are 36" of ice will hold hold a ton and for every inch after that another ton is added to its capacity so a road capable of holding 63,500 kilograms is 63.5 inches or more thick .
Yes, and they add "very strange very scaring sounds" and always the air filter needs to be changed in the middle of the studio made snow storm, or else the car can explode or the world go under if not changed immediately...
That is truly amazing. Thank you for your sincere response and for not trolling like you get so much of these days. I'm gonna go read up more about these brave souls that do those remote communities a great service. :)
@getachefupya It's not worth it. The communitys that these roads serve are very remote, even with the mining operations up there it wouldn't be economically viable. In summer these places have no road access and everything is shipped in by boat or air.
In the winter the ice on rivers and lakes can support a semi rig and the "hops" between the frozen waters is firm enough to make a temporary road (in summer the land is boggy) there's plenty of these in finland and Theres a famous one in Estonia.
I love the music. Does anyone have clue who it was; it would be appreciated if you send me a message it you do know. I love that 'classical fusion' style some groups do. Thanks.
@joshcboy Canada's north is so vast and underpopulated that it would never be economical to build real roads in this part of the planet, at least for the next few centuries.
Mind you, however, That there is the famous Dempster highay.
@biggrigger332 actually its from all the seasons of the show except the himilayans one, due to the fact the young guy who hauls alot of the oversized cargo is only in the one where they haul to the diamond mines. this show got these truckers kicked off the diamond road and the oil road up there not exactly sure why but i know they arent allowed to go back, and this isnt that bad of a job, i been up the dalton and up where they were drilling past inuvik. beautiful country up there for sure!!!!
I know the situation regarding the truck shown that went through the ice. He did it by mistake but he started on the ice road just out of Yellowknife before the road was ready to drive on. The ice wasn't thick enough. He was loaded with fuel.
The most dangerous job on the ice road is for those making the road before the trucks travel on it.
Would love to have a job like that, own boss, open road, challenging, and sometimes probably exciting too. Can't drive though, and have sight problems, keep on truckin' dudes!
Running a small business as a owner operator takes education and skill. It cost me 350 to keep my truck going 12 hours and getting regular maintenance food and unexpected breakdowns can add up fast. But i am proud that i can say that I make six figures yearly. I don't know any other business where you can make that kind of money without being a college graduate. I know company drivers that make 2 * more than a police officer or a electrician it just depends on what kind of driver you are.
@tampabayismyhome You sent me a message and apparently it was removed. You suggested that I wofk as a trucker before reaching conclusions. I was a trucker for forty years so I feel qualified to make some conclusions. I can't find anyplace where i made any derrogatory comments about truckers in general. I don't believe I did. There's nothing wrong with truckers, I am one. It's possible to gross six figures a year but I'd like to see your net. If there's one thing I know it's that many truckers
@tampabayismyhome like to brag when they want to show off and they also like to complain when the situation seems to warrant it. Six figures seems impressive but I've been an owner operator too and I doubt if you net six figures after expenses.
@gregryf I work in the bakken formation in ND the pay up here is substantially higher than a region with a higher population. And I worked my ass off. I have a friend who hauls gas for a large company in the red river valley he grossed 86,000 last year. Everywhere else it seems like 10 people are fighting for the same job but here North Dakota there's three jobs for every person it is extremely difficult for oil companies to find hardworking knowledgeable people here that want to do this work.

@SuperHyperOverdrive Agree, eh
caloreen1992 6 months ago
@SuperHyperOverdrive agreed from Finland also..as well as that, southern parts of europe and the Uk are paralyzed when theres 15cm of snow.. In Finland when u wake up to yet another meter having fallen last night, u sigh..go outside and plough yourself out and get to work apologizing for being 5 min late.

@SuperHyperOverdrive @sacr3 well it is dangerous if you would like to know a lot of the ice is not as thick as you think i have worked winter roads for the north west company i can tall you each year the ice is getting thinner and the season is getting shorter the amount of goods need to get shipped on the highway is starting to fall short some trucks are going 3/4 full to keep the weight down so the truck does not go through the ice and each truck enter the ice at a timed interval for less
MrJackmehoff1964 5 months ago
@SuperHyperOverdrive yeah I've spent most of my career up in the arctic driving on ice roads. It is a dangerous job but its not that dagerous. As for the ice the rules we go by when building an ice road are 36" of ice will hold hold a ton and for every inch after that another ton is added to its capacity so a road capable of holding 63,500 kilograms is 63.5 inches or more thick .

@SuperHyperOverdrive
Yes, and they add "very strange very scaring sounds" and always the air filter needs to be changed in the middle of the studio made snow storm, or else the car can explode or the world go under if not changed immediately...
No Ice Road Truckers sucks really hard !

@SuperHyperOverdrive THEN YOU KNOW ITS NOT THE ICE THATS DANGEROUS ITS THE ELEMENTS OF BEING STRANDED IS 50 BELOW 0

@SuperHyperOverdrive Even so, 27 inches should be enough to support a semi shouldn't it? agreed on the comment though,

That is truly amazing. Thank you for your sincere response and for not trolling like you get so much of these days. I'm gonna go read up more about these brave souls that do those remote communities a great service. :)

Are those mad fuckers driving big rigs over ice???????
getachefupya 8 months ago
@getachefupya Yep :)
leapoffaith20 8 months ago
@leapoffaith20 ballsy. Stupid question though....why aren't there any roads, i mean bitumen roads if so many vehicles go that way.
getachefupya 8 months ago
@getachefupya It's not worth it. The communitys that these roads serve are very remote, even with the mining operations up there it wouldn't be economically viable. In summer these places have no road access and everything is shipped in by boat or air.
In the winter the ice on rivers and lakes can support a semi rig and the "hops" between the frozen waters is firm enough to make a temporary road (in summer the land is boggy) there's plenty of these in finland and Theres a famous one in Estonia.

why are the roads made of ice/.. and why would u drive on the ice..
joshcboy 8 months ago
@joshcboy when it's minus 40 degrees F it can be very icy road conditions.
Canada is the second largest country in the world many roads are very remote .
dave777blaster 8 months ago
@joshcboy Canada's north is so vast and underpopulated that it would never be economical to build real roads in this part of the planet, at least for the next few centuries.
Mind you, however, That there is the famous Dempster highay.

@OBSysteme Funny thing.. what 664FREEDOM showed here, was when they were in Alaska, not Canada...
biggrigger332 8 months ago
@biggrigger332 oh! I though it was canada because of the tags related to the video.
Alaska seems more developped compared to many parts of northern Canada, but I bet they still have alot of remote areas.
OBSysteme 8 months ago
@biggrigger332 actually its from all the seasons of the show except the himilayans one, due to the fact the young guy who hauls alot of the oversized cargo is only in the one where they haul to the diamond mines. this show got these truckers kicked off the diamond road and the oil road up there not exactly sure why but i know they arent allowed to go back, and this isnt that bad of a job, i been up the dalton and up where they were drilling past inuvik. beautiful country up there for sure!!!!
mhougestol 7 months ago
@mhougestol
Isn't the truckers that aren't allowed back, they can drive those roads... it's just the road bosses no longer allow filming.
AR123457 7 months ago
@joshcboy Their driving over the frozen arctic ocean in the winter, it's frozen solidly enough.. most of the time...
it's for something i forget.. been a while since i've seen the show.

I know company drivers that make 2 * more than a police officer or a electrician it just depends on what kind of driver you are.
tampabayismyhome 10 months ago
@tampabayismyhome You sent me a message and apparently it was removed. You suggested that I wofk as a trucker before reaching conclusions. I was a trucker for forty years so I feel qualified to make some conclusions. I can't find anyplace where i made any derrogatory comments about truckers in general. I don't believe I did. There's nothing wrong with truckers, I am one. It's possible to gross six figures a year but I'd like to see your net. If there's one thing I know it's that many truckers
gregryf 10 months ago
@tampabayismyhome like to brag when they want to show off and they also like to complain when the situation seems to warrant it. Six figures seems impressive but I've been an owner operator too and I doubt if you net six figures after expenses.
gregryf 10 months ago
@gregryf I work in the bakken formation in ND the pay up here is substantially higher than a region with a higher population. And I worked my ass off. I have a friend who hauls gas for a large company in the red river valley he grossed 86,000 last year. Everywhere else it seems like 10 people are fighting for the same job but here North Dakota there's three jobs for every person it is extremely difficult for oil companies to find hardworking knowledgeable people here that want to do this work.
