Tommy Conwell rocks! My parents knew him before he got big. My dad held his guitar. He would've played at my parents' wedding, but he got a contract shortly before my parents asked him.
Yes,, apparently tommy does still live in Philly/DE area & works as a Teacher.... He is now sporting a Bald look...I am amazed that he is now bald....Just loved going to see his Band.....Hung with them all so many times....Have the songs on my iPod......
I liked them when it was just Tommy, Jimmy , and Paul. Ya' know, before they became Tommy Conwell and the Young Hooters.
There was just so much raw energy in the shows with just the three of them. Sorry if this offended anyone, but I just couldn't hang in there when they got castrated by Cornerstone.
@eldobledee Remember when he first started, Rolling Stone did a big piece comparing and contrasting two groups and how they got their deals and got into the studio. It was Tommy & the Rumblers and Jane's Addiction. Why Jane's Addiction got any recognition and Tommy became a footnote is beyond me. There is no comparison when it comes to talent.
I have been listening to music of all kinds since 12/63 and have been in radio since 1977. THIS is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard! I had just switched stations when it came out and did not get to play it until years later as oldie, but I remember what an impact it had on me back in '88. Thanks to the great Al Moss for snagging me a copy of it back then!!
Thanks for posting! This song has been going through my head for over 20 years. I listened to the cassette of that album over and over--full of great songs, but this is my favorite.
This does bring back fond memories of the '80s. I played this album over and over along with Walkin on the Water. Tommy is great. Saw him this past Saturday at the Glenside pub playing acoustic. What a great time. Check him out most Saturday Nights.
Thanks a million for posting this!!! I have only ever found a partial of it in the past, and the sound quality was extremely poor. This is fantastic!!
Flooberbloob, you are ABSOLUTELY correct...I can't think of anyone whose songwriting has been as consistently wonderful as Jules Shear, over the past 33 or so years. And it seems that practically every new album he puts out is better than the last...why does he languish in such relative obscurity? My guess is that mediocrity is the best ticket to the top 40...and Jules is by no means mediocre.
This is one of my favorite songs...period. I have seen Tommy about 10 times live and still don't understand why he wasn't more popular than he is! This was a GREAT album.
Back in the summer and fall 1988 when I was a totally lost 24 year old who was in his last semester of college and who could not seem to do anything right, this song gave me hope that there was a better tomorrow somewhere down the road and sure enough by the grace of God my life is a lot better and more fulfilled now!!! I still have to listen to this song at least once a week to pep me up!! Thanks for posting. Best Regards from Houston, TX
Thanks so much for posting this catrod24!!! This is one of my favorite songs and I have been waiting forever for somebody to post this version-which was the only one I had ever heard til I started searching for it on youtube. I hadn't checked for awhile and was thrilled to find it at last.
I loved this song when it first came out and hearing it now, I love it just as much. Some people say that past music hits should be left in the past but if a song is good, it's good no matter what year it is.
I remember Tommy dedicating this song to me at the Chestnut Caberet after seeing my N.Y. State RUMBLERS licence plate on my pick-up. The best of times....
Hey, this is alright! Sorry but this is the first time I've listened to someone other than Reckless Sleepers doing this fairly by God incredible tune, I like the arrangement and Tommy belts it out, so, thanks to catrod24 for the upload, thanks to youtube for the available space, and thanks to Jules Shears for writing one of the best love song of the'80s, as always thanks to Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers let's all: ROCK ON SHINDIGGERS!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS, I'VE LOOKED FOR IT FOREVER. One of my favorite 80's songs. Takes me back to some good times in the Philly area clubs, Tommy Conwell, The A;s, The Hooters and the late, great Robert Hazard. Lots of fun times!!
Reminds me of my time in Wild Wood NJ on summer vacation.

One of the great mysteries of music is how Tommy and his band didn't become huge.
But we'll be happy to consider him a Philly treasure.
