  • Saw dust keeps slugs away cuz it gets stuck on the slugs ;P

  • For your slugs, wrap a band of copper around the outside of your raised beds. I live in Florida too and that works for me! Beautiful garden by the way!

  • What kind of red flowers are growing in the tomato bed?

  • I started by beans from seed too. Don't waste your money buying bean or pea plants. They are very easy to grow yourself! Save money where you can.

  • beautiful garden

  • @mysticindian Thank you!

  • You should look into food grade diatomaceous earth. It is fossil shell flour which kills slugs and other garden bugs organically. It safe for people, pets, veggies. Just be sure its food grade as there is a pool grade that is chemically heat treated and dangerous.

  • Slugs do like a little dish of beer!

  • that's 4 weeks sweeeeet

  • broccoli scares me because of caterpillar invasion because once they get going they will kill everything , broccoli looks nice though

  • Donna, this garden is just beautiful! Thank you for showing it to us week by week.

Great job, you dont need yhe grocery store anymore, thats what I mean by self reliance.

  • what about a 12x4 box instead of 4 4x4 boxs?

  • @bobinmissouri No reason you couldn't if you had the space

  • I have tried two different ideas that I read about on the net. I used crushed up egg shells in one bed and broken crush sea shell in another. So far the broken egg shell seems to be working the best. Hope this help you too.

  • For slugs use a product called Escargo...

  • Try "Diatomaceous Earth" for your pest control. You can google it. It is all natural and will help your garden also.

  • I got it! Trying it now. Thanks!

  • easy and cheap way to kill slugs is 2 simply throw salt on them

  • Thank you!

  • Just find out what eats slugs and introduce them.

  • Thank you! I have been putting toads in my beds.

  • The beer cooler is much more convenient though

  • For slugs, I use broken egg shell on top of soil circling the plant so He can't get in there:)

  • Thank you!

  • if you eat grapefruit, you can take the grapefruit bowl after you eat the fruit and turn it cut side down where you have seen slugs and they will all climb under it and you can remove them each day without any damage to your other plants. Slugs love grapefruit.

  • Thank you! Will try.

  • hello i use caffine tablet crushed around the veg that keeps the slugs and snail away.

  • I will have to give it a try!

  • I'm not sure I understand the purpose of laying the dowel grid on the top of the boxes. Can someone explain?

  • Hi! This is the Square Foot Gardening method which was a method of gardening invented by Mel Barthalemew (see the All New Square Foot Gardening book). It utilizes as little space as possible for the most harvest. Using a quality soil mixture, and planting in assigned spaces for the greatest yeild. Check out the book for all the details! Thanks for watching.

  • is there a bottom to all these boxes?

  • Hi.

There is a layer of weed block material at the bottom of the boxes. Get the book "All New Square Foot Gardening" and it will explain it all...very easy read! And fun too!!!

  • I second the copper band - even copper wire once around.

  • also for slugs we use beer

  • Also plant MeroGold flowers throughout your garden pests hate them.

  • Slug problem ?? I had the same problem too. We use LIME. Its a gray color. Try that.

So far they have stayed out of my garden.

  • Thank you!

  • yes thank you for posting , for the slugs put a band of copper foil around the box or paint the exrerior woth a boat paint for boats that contains copper it will create a barrier the slugs will not pass

  • Wonderful advice. I will have to try the paint.

  • Hey can you give me the sizes of the main squares? That would be cool, very nice video aswell. Keep us udating ;)

  • Hello,

Each box is 4x4 and contains 16 square feet. If you do not already have the book "Square Foot Gardening", it is very helpful and I highly recommend it.
