I don't want to ruin the film but Lev has spent 18 months in zero gravity, he would be unable to stand let alone run, because of not using his legs for a year and a half. I hate knowing this fact because it ruins the scene for me.
Well, cosmonauts did lots of special physical exercises up to 2 hours a day, mainly treadmill and cycle ergometer...besides, don't forget that Lev was ready to fire his thrusters any time!
On a serious note though, 18 months would've been quite taxing for the body, no doubt about that..
Why don't you hold the criticism until your country's space agency gets out of diapers and starts sending up it's own manned missions to space and makes a significant contribution to space exploration.
Yep, the Russian record is 437.7 days...crazy huh?
Valeri Polyakov, launched 8 January 1994 (Soyuz TM-18), stayed at Mir for 437.7 days, during which he orbited the Earth about 7,075 times and traveled 300,765,000 km (186,887,000 mi), returning 22 March 1995 (Soyuz TM-20)
As an aside, it's funny of them to diss the Russian station for being 11 years old when US shuttles aren't that brand spanking new either xD
There was problems with Mir. They had inorbit fires on a rregular occurance. But Mir was a symbol of the Soviets. Even though they had broken up, people still thought of the Soviet connection and were used to critisising anything Soviet due to the past history
What's wrong with the Soviet 'past history' anyway to warrant 'criticism' of 'anything' by 'people' who 'were used'? Typical 1%-ish Tinseltown propaganda to brainwash other 99%!
4.24, he talks about his uncle working at a bomb factory and how he use to make the tip of the bomb which finds new york or washington. Hmm very weird
"We have a go, initiating gravitational spin" at 0:43. They are rotating the station. A rotating spacecraft will produce the feeling of gravity on its inside hull. The rotation drives any object inside the spacecraft toward the hull, thereby giving the appearance of a gravitational pull directed outward. The spacecraft's hull provides the centripetal force required for the objects to travel in a circle. They are reacting to the inertia caused, aka Newton's Third Law.
In this scene you can see that they walk on the wrong sides of station and shuttles, For example in computer model on nasa's screen, shuttle docking to the right external side, so considering rotation of the station, shuttle crew should walk on the left internal side of shuttle, but they walk on the deck. Eventually we love Armageddon not for scientific accuracy.
@joachim2464 thats what i thought to when i saw this movie, they would have had to stablize the space station first, then dock, then fire thrusters afterwards, but again its hollywood, they rarely get it all right
Wouldn't spinning the space station before the shuttles dock screw up the docking procedure? And even if they spin it, wouldn't forces be different in different parts of the station depending on where the center is? And...aw screw it...this is Armageddon! lol
peter stormare is a legend, great role in armaggedon(my nickname is Lev Andropov, his name in this movie), and he made an even greater role in Prison Brake, mob boss Abruzzi, he is the Bomb
why is there an american flag inside the russian station ? and models of space shuttles as well ? are they completely fucked with propaganda in hollywood ?
@a6km It's a hollywood thing, they always put american flags all over the god damn place making sure it has some screentime. I never understood it and think its retarded, but i guess some people are into it. =p

Kingfordian22 2 months ago
@Kingfordian22
The fire was caused by a faulty oxygen-generating (lithium perchlorate) cartridge.
The problem was traced to a piece of latex glove left there by an assembly line worker.
The cartridge got re-designed after the incident.
Read all about it here:
