lol i know, im thinking about upgrading soon. Im thinking about getting the Sapphire radeon 4860 with 1gb of ddr5, 256 bit for 129.99 should i get? Budget is not much more then that.
@TheDman52 That sounds like a winner for your setup and budget. That card with be nice. I'm sure it will outpace 9800GTX+ possibly run with GTX260? I would get that one, your PC would then rule! CPU upgrade to a Phenom II x4 would then need to happen to prevent CPU bottleneck and also to make your system kick more ass.
man i dont under stand y you need massive hard drives a 320gb is more than enough y do people go crazy and get 1tb 2tb sometimes 4tb you dont even need that unless your obsessed with hard drive space..
It depends on your power supply. You might want to check your power supply to make sure that it can handle newer cards, or otherwise, the card won't get enough juice.
Also, what slots do you have available? PCIe? AGP? PCI? I am going to assume that you don't have PCIe, since your computer is from 2002. In that case, you're going to be looking at some of the older AGP cards.
Personally, I would buy a completely new computer. You're just not going to find something worthwhile for an old system.
Yea, I have been torn between my upgrade options. Either a 4870 or GTX260 core 216. I think I plan on going with nvidia cause I have an sli motherboard. Actually my 8800GT performs great. I have been running a custom BIOS with the clocks 700/1700/1000@1.2V for a while. With CPU at 3.6Ghz I get high 14K to low 15K in 3dmark06.
It seems like overclocking anything else, raise FSB till unstable, then raise vcore, then repeat. I had to set my memory unlinked at 667mhz to get 3.6ghz to be stable. Nice clock on your E8400, wish I could hit 4Ghz!
Nice build but why cheap out on ram ddr2 is dirt cheap with this build i would of thrown atleast 4-8gb of ddr2 or 2gb of ddr3 prolly got a decent memory controller on that board i imagine.
i would of gone with the asus p5n-e sli just a few bucks more if you ever plan on tossin another card in for sli, curious how is that epu on that motherboard any performance probs?
My board can run SLI, it has 2 x16 PCI express slots, that remain x16 when both are filled. The board overclocks my quad to 3.6Ghz from 2.4Ghz so I'm happy.
lol dude wats wrong with his mobo ?? the 680i chip set is pimp and isnt the front side bus on that 1333mhz ?? personly i woulda went with the asus p5n-e but i heard people have problems with it
The PCI fan is ok, I ended up moving it to another computer cause of the ugly purple glow it emits. And yes it is very loud at full speed, it doesnt blow much air either really.
dude, come on...sli components have nothing to do with reduced heat. Sli memory is really just for marketing. What it is tho is for certain chipsets you can enable sli memory and have enhanced timing. Nothing really special.
In the gaming area, $1000 is budget. Gaming computers focus on using the newest components. The newest Intel quad core extreme costs over $1200 for cpu. A top of the line gaming pc can easly run $3000... The case is an Ultra Aluminus.
ATI and AMD are great companies, offer great products and they rule the performance for the money area. But sorry they fail in performance against intel and nvidia everytime.
thats a pretty good budget pc thats almost 1grand im building mine right now got the Aluminus to. got 80 bucks might by razer mouse or keyboard or CPU Fan not sure
Hey i have figured out that the ATI 3850 and 3870 work way better with vista. Its clocked at over 700 mhz stock! Its also cheaper. But...over all....NICE RIG!
Yea the 8800GT is warm, mine idles at 50C or so, and load gets it to roughly 65C. I just overclocked my cpu to 3.4 ghz and overclocked my 8800gt aswell. I have a 3dmark06 score of 14,022!
Hey if you think your 8800GT is running a little hot. I'd recommend the Accelero. Its only like 25 bucks and it keeps my 8800GT core at 35C idle and around 44C load. I got a Q6600 + 8800GT also, but I got a 14,100 score ;] try overclocking the CPU some more. Mine's running at 3.6Ghz on a P5K Deluxe motherboard.
i can't seem to OC my q6600 over 3.2 ghz on air... what settings did you use for a 3.6 ghz OC? btw, i have a 680i motherboard, so OCing shouldn't be an issue...
What are your temperatures? Keep it under 60C on load, if the temperature isn't stopping you, then it probably is the motherboard. I had a P5N32-E 680i SLI, and I couldn't get over 3.0GHz without hitting a overclock wall. I use an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, amazing performance for cheap. I'm getting a tuniq tower soon though. If you want you could get a P35 motherboard, Q6600 overclock really high on P35 boards. Good luck on your overclocking! :]
actually, on load, its way below 60C, but for some odd reason, the computer just shuts down.. which is a sign of overheating... I have a zalman 9700 cooler, so cooling shouldn't be a issue.. but thanks for the help~
Upgrade to a better air cooler....get either a Tuniq Tower 120 or a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme (TRUE) with a couple of high cfn Yate Loon or Scythe Kaze fans
I love the ram aswell I have the timings set to 4-3-3-8 @ 800mhz. The LT is a good board, I choose it cause a 680i was more costly, and the extra features in 680i didnt make the extra cost. At least my 2 pcie slots are 16x. I think that when the 680i chipset runs 2 cards in sli it turns the pcie slots to 8x, not sure tho...
thanks for the comments guys! To vicious: I think I have the vcore set to 1.4 in bios for 3.2ghz. To lolabobo: I didnt get a game with it, I got the card at Best Buy on sale. To Tom00West: No dvd burner included I already had one to use, and btw everything works great! Damn I need a 22 inch LCD now, hehe.
very nice indeed what you got your v core set at to get your q6600 stable at 3.2? i only ask cuz im building a new computer on Monday and i got that processor and Mobo.

???????

Yes of course you can. SLI ram is just for marketing. Only real thing it does is allow tighter timings when it runs with certain nvidia boards.
