I used to run out of the room whenever Crimestoppers came on. The music scared me so much and the e-fits of the suspects even scarier. The music would be a good horror film soundtrack.
This used to scare the hell out of me as a kid too. Even worse was that it often came on just before the childrens programs on itv. As a 6 year old waiting to watch Knightmare or whatever this was pretty grim stuff. People getting assualted, raped and mugged under bridges and in alleyways and the music is still enough to make me shiver..
Crimestoppers came on commonly during my younge age from about 4 years old to about 7 or 8 (before cable tv). These adverts still bring a chill down my spine based on my memory. The pics of the criminal were always depicted in a way that made them scarier looking and the bloody music played at the beginning terrorised my childhood.
Theres a crime stoppers episode on one of my old tapes and the photo fit is a spit of Owen Wilson! he,he. He was probably 12 years old or something then though.
Glad to hear im not the only one that this used to scare the shit out of!!! It always used to come on suddenly so your unprepared. I would always break into a sweat and leave the room. And dont get be started on the photofit pics lol
@blkslondon Ugh, and me, I couldn't stand them. Eventually I got wise to when they came on and tried to get out and make sure I couldn't hear the sound from the TV!!
I remember this. It was on late 80s till early 90s. The theme tune was a wee bit scare for me as well. And i was 14 till 15 years old. When it was on tv all that time.
Oh god I can rememebr when I lived in the West Country region... this used to scare the shite out of me! hearing the theme tune and looking at all those mouths was enough for me.
Did kids really find this scary? As I remember, when I was a kid, I always laughed at the rubbish acting, thought the prodcers had pulled people off the streets to act in it.
I am so glad that other people found this mega scary when they were kids. The music...the photo fit lips coming to get you....the grey background...the menacing letters on the screen. Agh!
This, as everyone says, is probubly not childrens cup of tea. Grey background, red outline, lips and serious music. CRIMESTOPPERS fly suddenly on screen. This is a very serious matter and this is not joke.
I used to hate the music like hell when I was little, I would walk out of the room or mute the TV if it was in my room. These days when it's sometimes played it the background during the actual thing, I just ignore it because thankfully there's dialogue over it lol :)
I was in yorkshire the other day and i thought Crime stoppers was only HTV! But i was doing some northen searching at my uncles and found another one without any ITV logos on... will be up hopefully soon!
God this ad used to scare the s--t out of me as a youngster. Not too scary now though and have to say it put me off being a criminal. I wonder how many criminals were caught thanks to the Crimestoppers appeals of the 1980s-2000.

It's funny how they never seem to advertise on telly anymore, considering how crime we have suicide bombers and threats of global terrorism

The ones that creep me out are the ones with the suspect composite faces made with various facial parts.
