Try again with subsonic ammo. I'd be willing to bet that all the noise you're hearing is bullet crack (sonic boom). That's what alot of the noise of a .22lr is anyway. That and the fact that all the emergent gasses must exit through a .22 inch hole. However when you stick the muzzle into a bottle like you did, much of the extra noise of those accelerated gasses is eliminated. You can also try putting a condom over the muzzle, this works too, but more so with subsonic ammo. Nice vid, though

A "Silencer" is defined as ANY object which does lessen the noise of a firearm by even 1 dB for a single shot. So technically, putting a 2 liter pop bottle on the end of your rifle would be an unregistered silencer if it reduced the sound of a single shot by atleast 1dB, even if it only explodes in your face.

next time use subsonic ammunition rather than hyper velocity, subsonics are what the military uses in their suppressed weapons and hence the name subsonic they themselves travel slower than the speed of sound, yet still make a noticeable gunshot without a suppressor, so change the ammo and give it another shot
@krap101 no they're meant to slow the speed of the gas that escapes when the round fires thus making it sound quieter. They are not meant to silence the weapon however but make the weapon sound like something other than a gun shot. hope this helped :)
Actually quite a few laws were broken in the making of this video. It is illegal to have a sound suppressing device attached to the end of a firearm. You absolutely MUST have a tax stamp and various other permits and such. If you have materials that could be assembled into a suppressor in one area, say a toolbox, you're breaking the law.

supressors are made to reduce the sound of the gas forcing the round out by giving it extra room for it to expand in. not the sound the bullet makes when it breaks the sound barrier. use a round with lowered velocity an you will have a very different situation. will be alot quieter when it goes off. gl. an have fun. when an if you get caught with the pen gun an homemade suppressor is a different story.
It is illegal to have a device that attaches to a firearm that reduces the db level without prior approval by BATF. Your best bet load your own rounds that fire under 900fps. The sound is greatly reduced - legally.
I read in Guns and Ammo that you don't have to register with the ATF on homemade firearms, all you need to do is stamp your Name, Address and Date of when you made it.
Making your own guns is perfectly legal, fitting them with homemade suppressors (in the absence of a tax stamp) is a felony I believe, and posting it on a public forum is beyond stupid.
try using "subsonic" rounds by remington, or the CB rounds from CCI, those bullets wont travel as far, but your not going for distance with a zip gun. the CB rounds in my 22 rifle are quieter than most pellet guns. i mess with my friends that have never seen them, and screw on my "invisible silencer" before firing one in my backyard

subsonic rounds are waaaaaaaay better.. If you built it right, it will be quieter than a pellet gun. Try something like the aguila sss rounds. 60gr at 950 fps so pretty powerful for a 22 subsonic, and really quiet with a suppressor

I think the interest in suppressing high velocity rounds is that the noise comes the bullet itself along the way, and not from the shooter, so even though it's nearly as loud, it's harder to pinpoint where it comes from (that's only usefull if someone is shooting back...)

re:phatboynotsoslim.... The sound of a gunshot is from BOTH, the bullet(if supersonic) breaking the soundbarrier AND the high pressure gasses escaping the end of the barrel. Just using .25 shorts will not elliminate a loud gunshot noise. It would be quieter than a 22 long, but a 25 WITH the silencer would be a LOT quieter.

Actually quite a few laws were broken in the making of this video. It is illegal to have a sound suppressing device attached to the end of a firearm. You absolutely MUST have a tax stamp and various other permits and such. If you have materials that could be assembled into a suppressor in one area, say a toolbox, you're breaking the law.

supressors are made to reduce the sound of the gas forcing the round out by giving it extra room for it to expand in. not the sound the bullet makes when it breaks the sound barrier. use a round with lowered velocity an you will have a very different situation. will be alot quieter when it goes off. gl. an have fun. when an if you get caught with the pen gun an homemade suppressor is a different story.

It is illegal to have a device that attaches to a firearm that reduces the db level without prior approval by BATF. Your best bet load your own rounds that fire under 900fps. The sound is greatly reduced - legally.

try using "subsonic" rounds by remington, or the CB rounds from CCI, those bullets wont travel as far, but your not going for distance with a zip gun. the CB rounds in my 22 rifle are quieter than most pellet guns. i mess with my friends that have never seen them, and screw on my "invisible silencer" before firing one in my backyard

subsonic rounds are waaaaaaaay better.. If you built it right, it will be quieter than a pellet gun. Try something like the aguila sss rounds. 60gr at 950 fps so pretty powerful for a 22 subsonic, and really quiet with a suppressor

I think the interest in suppressing high velocity rounds is that the noise comes the bullet itself along the way, and not from the shooter, so even though it's nearly as loud, it's harder to pinpoint where it comes from (that's only usefull if someone is shooting back...)

2nd Amendment was made because there was no formal army to the United States in 1791, it was based on local town militias so to have militia's people needed guns. Therefore, the bill was passed. Just using .25 shorts will not elliminate a loud gunshot noise. It would be quieter than a 22 long, but a 25 WITH the silencer would be a LOT quieter.
