Why all the hate. Bottom line is that both cars offer more or less identical performance and that's great, because it gives you a real choice.

What the CR adds, is the sporty feeling, which begins with the bucket seats, continues with the engine in your neck, completes it with the wonderful shift-, brake and clutch-feeling and ends with a sound what will make yourself and the passengers around you smile.

The sensation of a Porsche is the difference you pay for. The 1M is still a great car!

@demonicBerith OK, the ONLY way you can test two similar cars is by putting them on the same track with the same driver and running laps. There is no "Restrictor" this isnt a gokart it is electronically limited due to an agreement with the german hippie party. (porsche didn't go for it) In my Mind (and anyone else who knows cars), HANDLING and 0-60 accel, NOT top speed, determines a car's abilities, and in both those categories m1 wins. I am a huge porsche fan, but theres no argument here.

The specs you refer to don't tell you everything, like how the suspension "squats" in the bends, how the engine "pulls" the car or how the car halts to a stop. The specs are not the sole determining factors for a car's performance.

FYI, current BMWs are limited to 155mph. Take that off and they can achieve higher speeds.

The cayman and the 911 realistically should switch places in porsche's line up. Mid engine cayman= well balanced, great design, but its missing simple attributes that would otherwise make it far more capable than the 911. They didn't give it a limited slip, and if you take a cayman and 911 with the same engine and limited slip differential, the cayman would easily surpass the 911's performance specs. I JUST DON'T GET IT!

Bespoke engines are part of "M" package... Well used to be.. This is a 1 series with "M" parts chucked at it. Doesn't make it a bad car though, just ugly like all the other 1 series... he makes an interesting point about m cars not being about engines, but I'm afraid that they have been lately. The whole headline with the new M3 "Best small v8 ever! Revs to Mars and back" nobody ever spoke about it's handling with such emotion. The M5 and M6s 5L v10s with 507bhp that rev to 8800rpm. This is what M cars are about nowadays. It's simply a change in the times though. You can't find many roads nowadays that you can really appreciate a car's chassis.

Yes, both cars are stellar. 1M with its beautiful and usable package, and Cayman R with it pure sport feel and performance. It would be a tough one to choose, and having enough money I would get the Cayman R for me, and 1M for my girl that likes driving and shopping at the same time ;-)
