I saw the "new" NRBQ last night. Not quite the same, but Terry's new band put on quite a show. They did this song which prompted me to search out this video. Many thanks for posting it.
When i first heard his death, i actually cried for almost 20 min. He was my hero when my father showed me some old video's 'round '97. And that was what stuck out the most.
When I was real little WWF was my life. I don't watch WWE anymore but its always really sad to find out one of the greats has passed. For me another piece of my childhood died with Captain Lou. RIP.
i wasn't born yet when he was in his prime, but i surely remember watching him as a kid on wrestling as a manager and the occasional match. as far as a character goes, he had to be the best ever, and according to all, a great man. I personally will never forget him and am almost as sad as if i lost someone i knew personally. RIP Captain Lou, you will be missed and never could hope to be replaced!
"Often imitated, never duplicated" was right! There have been guys who were able to copy Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, everyone else to some degree. But has anyone ever come close to imitating Lou Albano? I lift a glass of unborn virgin goat's milk in his honor!
Goodbye, Capt. Lou. And farewell to Steve Ferguson as well. Steve was NRBQ's original guitarist (and a brilliant musician, btw). He died last week from cancer.
Freddie Blassie, The Grand Wizard, Lou Albano. They were the best. He is one of the greats that made me fall in love with Pro Wrestling. Don't mourn him...he lived such an amazing life. Celebrate him! Mad love to you, Captain Lou!
Nobody took a bump or sold themselves as a 'HEEL' better in pro wrestling than Capt Lou !! I remember in the late 70's how he would piss off the crowd into chatting..'ALBANO IS A BUM !!!' Then go into some crazy seisure! Or the interview on tv giving commands to his tag team THE SOMOANS picking apart live lobsters and eating them ! Great stuff way before he appeared in Cindy Laupers video. Also played a leader of a bike gang in the movie..'IT A COMPLEX WORLD' .Rest in peace Lou! You were great!
I used to go see Terry and the boys at the IMAGE on Collins in Miami. They were fabulous back then, so alive. Terry had hair down to his waist and sometimes wore it in pigtails high on his head - doin Rocket No. 9 and flinging those ponytails -- well so cool and adorable. They played in front of Elton John at the Electric Factory, Philadelphia in '70 or '71. I always went to see them on my hippy trail travels. Wish there was some footage from the IMAGE.
